열왕기하 13장

 

이스라엘 왕 여호아하스

 

13:1 유다 왕 아하시야의 아들 요아스 왕 제 이십삼년에 예후의 아들 여호아하스가 이스라엘을 다스리는 왕이 되어, 사마리아에서 열일곱 해 동안 다스렸다

( In the twenty-third year of Joash son of Ahaziah king of Judah, Jehoahaz son of Jehu became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned seventeen years.)

 

13:2 그러나 그는 주님 보시기에 악한 행동을 하였고, 이스라엘로 죄를 짓게 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 죄를 따라가, 그 길에서 돌아서지 않았다

( He did evil in the eyes of the LORD by following the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit, and he did not turn away from them.)

 

13:3 그리하여 주님께서는 이스라엘에게 진노하셔서, 시리아의 하사엘 왕의 손에 그들을 넘기시고, 계속해서 하사엘의 아들 벤하닷의 손에 넘기셨다

( So the LORD'S anger burned against Israel, and for a long time he kept them under the power of Hazael king of Aram and Ben-Hadad his son.)

 

13:4 그러나 여호아하스가 주님께 간절히 용서를 구하니, 주님께서 그의 간구를 들어주셨다 이스라엘이 시리아 왕의 억압으로 고난을 받고 있음을 보셨기 때문이다

( Then Jehoahaz sought the LORD'S favor, and the LORD listened to him, for he saw how severely the king of Aram was oppressing Israel.)

 

13:5 그래서 주님께서는 이스라엘에 구원자를 보내어, 시리아의 손에서부터 벗어나게 하셨고, 이스라엘 자손은 예전처럼 그들의 장막에서 편안하게 살았다

( The LORD provided a deliverer for Israel, and they escaped from the power of Aram. So the Israelites lived in their own homes as they had before.)

 

13:6 그럼에도 이스라엘 자손은, 이스라엘로 죄를 짓게 한 여로보암 가문의 죄로부터 돌아서지 않고, 여전히 그 길을 그대로 걸으며, 사마리아에는 아세라 목상까지도 그냥 세워 두었다

( But they did not turn away from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, which he had caused Israel to commit; they continued in them. Also, the Asherah pole remained standing in Samaria.)

 

13:7 시리아 왕이 여호아하스의 군대를 공격하여 타작 마당의 먼지같이 만들었기 때문에, 여호아하스에게는 겨우 기마병 오십 명과 병거 열 대와 보병 만 명만이 남았다

( Nothing had been left of the army of Jehoahaz except fifty horsemen, ten chariots and ten thousand foot soldiers, for the king of Aram had destroyed the rest and made them like the dust at threshing time.)

 

13:8 여호아하스의 나머지 행적과 그가 한 모든 일과, 그가 누린 권세는 '이스라엘 왕 역대지략'에 기록되어 있다

( As for the other events of the reign of Jehoahaz, all he did and his achievements, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?)

 

13:9 여호아하스가 죽으니, 사마리아에 안장하였고, 그의 아들 여호아스가 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다

( Jehoahaz rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria. And Jehoash his son succeeded him as king.)

 

이스라엘 왕 여호아스

 

13:10 유다의 요아스 왕 제 삼십칠년에 여호아하스의 아들 여호아스가 이스라엘의 왕이 되어, 사마리아에서 열여섯 해 동안 다스렸다

( In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash son of Jehoahaz became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned sixteen years.)

 

13:11 그는, 주님께서 보시기에 악을 행하였고, 이스라엘로 죄를 짓게 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 모든 죄로부터 돌아서지 않고, 그 길을 그대로 걸었다

( He did evil in the eyes of the LORD and did not turn away from any of the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit; he continued in them.)

 

13:12 여호아스의 나머지 행적과 그가 한 모든 일, 또 그가 유다 왕 아마샤와 싸운 용맹은, '이스라엘 왕 역대지략'에 기록되어 있다

( As for the other events of the reign of Jehoash, all he did and his achievements, including his war against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?)

 

13:13 여호아스가 죽으니, 이스라엘의 역대 왕들과 함께 사마리아에 안장하였고, 여로보암이 그의 뒤를 이어 왕좌에 올랐다

( Jehoash rested with his fathers, and Jeroboam succeeded him on the throne. Jehoash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.)

 

엘리사가 죽다

 

13:14 엘리사가 죽을 병이 들자, 이스라엘 왕 여호아스가 그에게로 내려왔다 그리고 그 앞에서 눈물을 흘리며 말하였다 "나의 아버지, 나의 아버지, 이스라엘의 병거와 마병이시여!"

( Now Elisha was suffering from the illness from which he died. Jehoash king of Israel went down to see him and wept over him. "My father! My father!" he cried. "The chariots and horsemen of Israel!")

 

13:15 엘리사가 그에게 말하였다 "활과 화살을 가져 오십시오" 그가 활과 화살을 가져 오자,

( Elisha said, "Get a bow and some arrows," and he did so.)

 

13:16 엘리사가 이스라엘 왕에게 말하였다 "활을 잡으십시오" 그가 활을 잡으니, 엘리사가 그의 손 위에 자기의 손을 얹었다

( "Take the bow in your hands," he said to the king of Israel. When he had taken it, Elisha put his hands on the king's hands.)

 

13:17 엘리사가 말하였다 "동쪽 창문을 여십시오" 왕이 창문을 열자, 엘리사가 말하였다 "쏘십시오" 그가 활을 쏘자, 엘리사가 말하였다 "주님의 승리의 화살입니다 시리아를 이길 승리의 화살입니다 임금님께서는 아벡에서 시리아를 쳐서, 완전히 진멸하실 것입니다"

( "Open the east window," he said, and he opened it. "Shoot!" Elisha said, and he shot. "The LORD'S arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Aram!" Elisha declared. "You will completely destroy the Arameans at Aphek.")

 

13:18 엘리사가 또 말하였다 "화살을 집으십시오" 왕이 화살을 집자, 엘리사가 이스라엘 왕에게 말하였다 "땅을 치십시오" 왕이 세 번을 치고는 그만두었다

( Then he said, "Take the arrows," and the king took them. Elisha told him, "Strike the ground." He struck it three times and stopped.)

 

13:19 하나님의 사람이 그에게 화를 내며 말하였다 "임금님께서 대여섯 번 치셨으면 시리아 군을 진멸할 때까지 쳐부술 수 있었을 터인데, 고작 세 번입니까? 이제 임금님께서는 겨우 세 번만 시리아를 칠 수 있을 것입니다"

( The man of God was angry with him and said, "You should have struck the ground five or six times; then you would have defeated Aram and completely destroyed it. But now you will defeat it only three times.")

 

13:20 그런 다음에 엘리사가 죽으니, 거기에 장사하였다 그 뒤에 모압의 도적 떼가 해마다 이스라엘 땅을 침범하였다

( Elisha died and was buried. Now Moabite raiders used to enter the country every spring.)

 

13:21 한 번은 장사지내는 사람들이 어떤 사람의 주검을 묻고 있다가, 이 도적 떼를 보게 되었다 그러자 그들은 놀라서 그 주검을 엘리사의 무덤에 내던지고 달아났는데, 그 때에 그 사람의 뼈가 엘리사의 뼈에 닿자, 그 사람이 살아나서 제 발로 일어섰다

( Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders; so they threw the man's body into Elisha's tomb. When the body touched Elisha's bones, the man came to life and stood up on his feet.)

 

이스라엘과 시리아의 전쟁

 

13:22 시리아의 하사엘 왕은 여호아하스가 다스리는 동안에 줄곧 이스라엘을 억압하였다

( Hazael king of Aram oppressed Israel throughout the reign of Jehoahaz.)

 

13:23 그러나 주님께서 이스라엘에게 은혜를 베푸셔서, 그들을 불쌍히 여기시고, 그들을 굽어살피셨다 이는 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱과 맺으신 언약 때문이었다 그래서 그들을 멸망시키지 않으시고, 이제까지 주님 앞에서 쫓아내지 않으셨다

( But the LORD was gracious to them and had compassion and showed concern for them because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. To this day he has been unwilling to destroy them or banish them from his presence.)

 

13:24 시리아의 하사엘 왕이 죽고, 그의 아들 벤하닷이 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다

( Hazael king of Aram died, and Ben-Hadad his son succeeded him as king.)

 

13:25 이 때에 여호아하스의 아들 여호아스가 하사엘의 아들 벤하닷의 손에서 성읍들을 도로 되찾았다 이 성읍들은 부왕 여호아하스가 전쟁으로 빼앗겼던 것이다 여호아스는 세 번이나 벤하닷을 쳐서, 이스라엘의 성읍들을 도로 되찾았다

( Then Jehoash son of Jehoahaz recaptured from Ben-Hadad son of Hazael the towns he had taken in battle from his father Jehoahaz. Three times Jehoash defeated him, and so he recovered the Israelite towns.)

열왕기하 14장

 

유다 왕 아마샤;대하25:1-24

 

14:1 이스라엘 왕 여호아하스의 아들 여호아스 제 이년에 유다 왕 요아스의 아들 아마샤가 유다 왕이 되었다

( In the second year of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel, Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah began to reign.)

 

14:2 그는 스물다섯 살에 왕위에 올라, 예루살렘에서 스물아홉 해 동안 다스렸다 그의 어머니 여호앗단은 예루살렘 태생이다

( He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-nine years. His mother's name was Jehoaddin; she was from Jerusalem.)

 

14:3 아마샤는 주님께서 보시기에 올바른 일을 하기는 하였으나, 그의 조상 다윗만큼은 하지 못하였고, 아버지 요아스가 한 것만큼 하였다

( He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not as his father David had done. In everything he followed the example of his father Joash.)

 

14:4 그리하여 산당은 제거되지 않은 채로, 백성은 여전히 산당에서 제사를 드리며 분향을 하고 있었다

( The high places, however, were not removed; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.)

 

14:5 왕권을 확고하게 장악한 다음에, 아마샤는 부왕을 살해한 신하들을 처형하였다

( After the kingdom was firmly in his grasp, he executed the officials who had murdered his father the king.)

 

14:6 그러나 그는 처형한 신하의 자녀는 죽이지 않았다 그것은 모세의 율법서에 기록된 말씀을 따른 것이다 거기에는 "아버지가 자녀 대신에 처형되어서도 안 되고, 또 자녀가 아버지 대신에 처형되어서도 안 된다 오직 각 사람은 자신이 지은 죄에 따라 처형되어야 한다" 하고 말씀하신 주님의 명령이 있다

( Yet he did not put the sons of the assassins to death, in accordance with what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses where the LORD commanded: "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sins.")

 

14:7 아마샤는 '소금 계곡'에서 에돔 사람 만 명을 쳐죽이고, 또 셀라를 쳐서 점령한 다음에, 그 이름을 욕드엘이라고 하였는데, 오늘까지 그렇게 불리고 있다

( He was the one who defeated ten thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt and captured Sela in battle, calling it Joktheel, the name it has to this day.)

 

14:8 그 때에 아마샤가, 예후의 손자요 여호아하스의 아들인 이스라엘의 여호아스 왕에게 전령을 보내어, 서로 직접 만나 힘을 겨루어 보자고 제안하였다

( Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, with the challenge: "Come, meet me face to face.")

 

14:9 이스라엘의 여호아스 왕은, 유다의 아마샤 왕에게 사람을 보내어, 이렇게 회답하였다 "레바논의 가시나무가 레바논의 백향목에게 전갈을 보내어 백향목의 딸을 며느리로 달라고 청혼하는 것을 보고, 레바논의 들짐승이 지나가다 그 가시나무를 짓밟은 일이 있다

( But Jehoash king of Israel replied to Amaziah king of Judah: "A thistle in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar in Lebanon, 'Give your daughter to my son in marriage.' Then a wild beast in Lebanon came along and trampled the thistle underfoot.)

 

14:10 네가 에돔을 쳐서 이기더니, 너무 오만해진 것 같다 차라리 왕궁에나 머물면서, 네가 누리는 영화를 만족하게 여겨라 어찌하여 너는, 너 자신과 유다를 함께 멸망시킬 화근을, 스스로 불러들이느냐?"

( You have indeed defeated Edom and now you are arrogant. Glory in your victory, but stay at home! Why ask for trouble and cause your own downfall and that of Judah also?")

 

14:11 그러나 아마샤가 끝내 듣지 않자, 이스라엘의 여호아스 왕이 올라와서, 유다 왕 아마샤를 맞아, 유다의 영토인 벳세메스에서 대치하였다

( Amaziah, however, would not listen, so Jehoash king of Israel attacked. He and Amaziah king of Judah faced each other at Beth Shemesh in Judah.)

 

14:12 그러나 유다 군대는 이스라엘 군대에게 패하여, 뿔뿔이 흩어져 각자 자기의 집으로 도망하였다

( Judah was routed by Israel, and every man fled to his home.)

 

14:13 이스라엘의 여호아스 왕은 벳세메스에서 아하시야의 손자요 요아스의 아들인 유다의 아마샤 왕을 사로잡아서, 예루살렘으로 들어왔다 그는 예루살렘 성벽을 에브라임 문에서부터 성 모퉁이 문에 이르기까지, 사백 자를 허물어 버렸다

( Jehoash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Ahaziah, at Beth Shemesh. Then Jehoash went to Jerusalem and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate--a section about six hundred feet long.)

 

14:14 그는 또 주님의 성전과 왕궁의 보물 창고에 있는 금과 은과 모든 그릇을 약탈하고, 사람까지 볼모로 잡아서, 사마리아로 돌아갔다

( He took all the gold and silver and all the articles found in the temple of the LORD and in the treasuries of the royal palace. He also took hostages and returned to Samaria.)

 

14:15 여호아스의 나머지 행적과 그가 누린 권세와, 그가 유다의 아마샤 왕과 싸운 일에 관한 것은 '이스라엘 왕 역대지략'에 기록되어 있다

( As for the other events of the reign of Jehoash, what he did and his achievements, including his war against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?)

 

14:16 여호아스가 죽으니, 사마리아에 있는 이스라엘 왕들의 묘실에 안장하였고, 그의 아들 여로보암이 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다

( Jehoash rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. And Jeroboam his son succeeded him as king.)

 

유다 왕 아마샤가 죽다;대하25:25-28

 

14:17 유다의 요아스 왕의 아들 아마샤는, 이스라엘의 여호아하스 왕의 아들 여호아스가 죽은 뒤에도 열다섯 해를 더 살았다

( Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah lived for fifteen years after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel.)

 

14:18 아마샤의 나머지 행적은 '유다 왕 역대지략'에 기록되어 있다

( As for the other events of Amaziah's reign, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah?)

 

14:19 예루살렘에서 반란이 일어나자, 아마샤는 라기스로 도망하였다 그러나 반란을 일으킨 사람들은 라기스에까지 사람을 보내어, 거기에서 그를 죽였고,

( They conspired against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish, but they sent men after him to Lachish and killed him there.)

 

14:20 그의 주검을 말에 싣고 와서, 예루살렘 안의 '다윗 성'에 그의 조상과 함께 장사지냈다

( He was brought back by horse and was buried in Jerusalem with his fathers, in the City of David.)

 

14:21 유다의 온 백성은 아사랴를 왕으로 삼아 그의 아버지 아마샤의 뒤를 잇게 하였다 그가 왕이 되었을 때에, 그의 나이는 열여섯이었다

( Then all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah.)

 

14:22 아마샤 왕이 죽은 뒤에, 아사랴는 엘랏을 재건하여 유다에 귀속시켰다

( He was the one who rebuilt Elath and restored it to Judah after Amaziah rested with his fathers.)

 

이스라엘 왕 여로보암 이세

 

14:23 유다의 요아스 왕의 아들 아마샤 제 십오년에, 이스라엘의 여호아스 왕의 아들 여로보암이 왕이 되어, 사마리아에서 마흔한 해 동안 다스렸다

( In the fifteenth year of Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah, Jeroboam son of Jehoash king of Israel became king in Samaria, and he reigned forty-one years.)

 

14:24 그는 주님께서 보시기에 악을 행하고, 이스라엘로 죄를 짓게 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 죄에서 떠나지 아니하고, 그것을 그대로 본받았다

( He did evil in the eyes of the LORD and did not turn away from any of the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit.)

 

14:25 그러나 그는 이스라엘의 국경을 하맛 어귀로부터 아라바 바다까지 회복하였다 이것은 주 이스라엘의 하나님께서 그의 종인 가드헤벨 사람 아밋대의 아들 요나 예언자에게 말씀하신 그대로였다

( He was the one who restored the boundaries of Israel from Lebo Hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, in accordance with the word of the LORD, the God of Israel, spoken through his servant Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet from Gath Hepher.)

 

14:26 주님께서는 이스라엘의 고난이 너무 심하여, 매인 사람이나 자유로운 사람이나 할 것 없이 한 사람도 남아 있지 않아, 이스라엘을 돕는 사람이라고는 아무도 없는 것을 보셨다

( The LORD had seen how bitterly everyone in Israel, whether slave or free, was suffering; there was no one to help them.)

 

14:27 주님께서는 이스라엘의 이름을 하늘 아래에서 지워 없애겠다고 말씀하시지 않았기 때문에, 여호아스의 아들 여로보암을 시켜서 그들을 구원하신 것이다

( And since the LORD had not said he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven, he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Jehoash.)

 

14:28 여로보암의 나머지 행적과, 그가 한 모든 일과, 그가 전쟁에서 보인 능력과, 유다에 속하였던 다마스쿠스와 하맛을 이스라엘에게 되돌려 준 일들은 '이스라엘 왕 역대지략'에 기록되어 있다

( As for the other events of Jeroboam's reign, all he did, and his military achievements, including how he recovered for Israel both Damascus and Hamath, which had belonged to Yaudi, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?)

 

14:29 여로보암이 그의 조상인 이스라엘의 왕들과 함께 누워 잠드니, 그의 아들 스가랴가 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다

( Jeroboam rested with his fathers, the kings of Israel. And Zechariah his son succeeded him as king.)

유다 왕 아사랴;대하26:1-23

 

15:1 이스라엘의 여로보암 왕 제 이십칠년에 유다의 아마샤 왕의 아들 아사랴가 왕이 되었다

( In the twenty-seventh year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Azariah son of Amaziah king of Judah began to reign.)

 

15:2 그가 왕이 되었을 때에, 그의 나이는 열여섯이었다 그는 예루살렘에서 쉰두 해 동안 다스렸다 그의 어머니 여골리야는 예루살렘 태생이다

( He was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-two years. His mother's name was Jecoliah; she was from Jerusalem.)

 

15:3 그는 자기의 아버지 아마샤가 한 모든 일을 본받아, 주님께서 보시기에 올바른 일을 하였으나,

( He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father Amaziah had done.)

 

15:4 산당만은 제거하지 않아서, 그 때까지 백성은 여전히 산당에서 제사를 드리고 분향을 하였다

( The high places, however, were not removed; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.)

 

15:5 그리하여 주님께서 왕을 치셨으므로, 왕은 죽을 때까지 나병 환자가 되었고, 격리된 궁에서 살았다 왕자 요담이 왕실을 관리하며 나라의 백성을 다스렸다

( The LORD afflicted the king with leprosy until the day he died, and he lived in a separate house. Jotham the king's son had charge of the palace and governed the people of the land.)

 

15:6 아사랴의 나머지 행적과 그가 한 모든 일은, '유다 왕 역대지략'에 기록되어 있다

( As for the other events of Azariah's reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah?)

 

15:7 아사랴가 죽어 그의 조상과 함께 잠드니, '다윗 성'에 조상과 함께 장사지냈다 왕자 요담이 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다

( Azariah rested with his fathers and was buried near them in the City of David. And Jotham his son succeeded him as king.)

 

이스라엘 왕 스가랴

 

15:8 유다의 아사랴 왕 제 삼십팔년에 여로보암의 아들 스가랴가 이스라엘의 왕이 되어서, 사마리아에서 여섯 달 동안 다스렸다

( In the thirty-eighth year of Azariah king of Judah, Zechariah son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned six months.)

 

15:9 그도 또한 조상이 한 것처럼 주님께서 보시기에 악을 행하고, 이스라엘로 죄를 짓게 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 죄에서 떠나지 아니하고, 그것을 그대로 본받았다

( He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, as his fathers had done. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit.)

 

15:10 야베스의 아들 살룸이 역모를 꾀하여 백성 앞에서 그를 죽이고, 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다

( Shallum son of Jabesh conspired against Zechariah. He attacked him in front of the people, assassinated him and succeeded him as king.)

 

15:11 스가랴의 나머지 행적은 '이스라엘 왕 역대지략'에 기록되어 있다

( The other events of Zechariah's reign are written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel.)

 

15:12 주님께서 예후에게, 그에게서 난 자손이 사 대까지 이스라엘의 왕좌에 앉을 것이라고 말씀하신 그대로 된 것이다

( So the word of the LORD spoken to Jehu was fulfilled: "Your descendants will sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.")

 

이스라엘 왕 살룸

 

15:13 야베스의 아들 살룸이 유다의 웃시야 왕 제 삼십구년에 이스라엘 왕이 되어, 사마리아에서 한 달 동안 다스렸다

( Shallum son of Jabesh became king in the thirty-ninth year of Uzziah king of Judah, and he reigned in Samaria one month.)

 

15:14 그 때에 가디의 아들 므나헴이 디르사에서부터 사마리아로 올라와서, 거기에서 야베스의 아들 살룸을 쳐죽이고, 그를 대신하여 왕이 되었다

( Then Menahem son of Gadi went from Tirzah up to Samaria. He attacked Shallum son of Jabesh in Samaria, assassinated him and succeeded him as king.)

 

15:15 살룸의 나머지 행적과 그가 역모를 꾀한 일은 '이스라엘 왕 역대지략'에 기록되어 있다

( The other events of Shallum's reign, and the conspiracy he led, are written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel.)

( In the thirty-ninth year of Azariah king of Judah, Menahem son of Gadi became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria ten years.)

 

15:18 그는 주님께서 보시기에 악을 행하였다 그는 이스라엘로 죄를 짓게 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 죄에서 일생 동안 떠나지 아니하고, 그것을 그대로 본받았다

( He did evil in the eyes of the LORD. During his entire reign he did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit.)

 

15:19 앗시리아의 불 왕이 그 땅을 치려고 올라오니, 므나헴은 불에게 은 천 달란트를 주었다 이렇게 한 것은, 그의 도움을 받아서 자기 왕국의 통치권을 굳게 하려 함이었다

( Then Pul king of Assyria invaded the land, and Menahem gave him a thousand talents of silver to gain his support and strengthen his own hold on the kingdom.)

( Menahem exacted this money from Israel. Every wealthy man had to contribute fifty shekels of silver to be given to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria withdrew and stayed in the land no longer.)

( One of his chief officers, Pekah son of Remaliah, conspired against him. Taking fifty men of Gilead with him, he assassinated Pekahiah, along with Argob and Arieh, in the citadel of the royal palace at Samaria. So Pekah killed Pekahiah and succeeded him as king.)

( In the time of Pekah king of Israel, Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria came and took Ijon, Abel Beth Maacah, Janoah, Kedesh and Hazor. He took Gilead and Galilee, including all the land of Naphtali, and deported the people to Assyria.)

 

15:30 엘라의 아들 호세아가 르말리야의 아들 베가에게 반역하여 그를 살해하고, 웃시야의 아들 요담 제 이십년에 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다

( Then Hoshea son of Elah conspired against Pekah son of Remaliah. He attacked and assassinated him, and then succeeded him as king in the twentieth year of Jotham son of Uzziah.)

( In the second year of Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel, Jotham son of Uzziah king of Judah began to reign.)

 

15:33 그가 왕이 되었을 때에, 그의 나이는 스물다섯 살이었다 그는 예루살렘에서 열여섯 해 동안 다스렸다 그의 어머니 여루사는 사독의 딸이다

( He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. His mother's name was Jerusha daughter of Zadok.)

( He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father Uzziah had done.)

( The high places, however, were not removed; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there. Jotham rebuilt the Upper Gate of the temple of the LORD.)

( Jotham rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David, the city of his father. And Ahaz his son succeeded him as king.)

( Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. Unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD his God.)

( He offered sacrifices and burned incense at the high places, on the hilltops and under every spreading tree.)

 

16:5 그 때에 시리아의 르신 왕과 이스라엘의 르말리야의 아들 베가 왕이 예루살렘을 치려고 올라와서, 아하스를 포위하기는 하였으나, 정복하지는 못하였다

( Then Rezin king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel marched up to fight against Jerusalem and besieged Ahaz, but they could not overpower him.)

 

16:6 그 때에 시리아의 르신 왕이, 시리아에게 엘랏을 되찾아 주었고, 엘랏에서 유다 사람들을 몰아내었으므로, 시리아 사람들이 이 날까지 엘랏에 와서 살고 있다

( At that time, Rezin king of Aram recovered Elath for Aram by driving out the men of Judah. Edomites then moved into Elath and have lived there to this day.)

 

16:7 아하스는 앗시리아의 디글랏빌레셀 왕에게 전령을 보내어, 이렇게 말하였다 "나는 임금님의 신하이며 아들입니다 올라오셔서, 나를 공격하고 있는 시리아 왕과 이스라엘 왕의 손에서, 나를 구원하여 주십시오"

( Ahaz sent messengers to say to Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria, "I am your servant and vassal. Come up and save me out of the hand of the king of Aram and of the king of Israel, who are attacking me.")

 

16:8 그런 다음에 아하스는 주님의 성전과 왕궁의 보물 창고에 있는 금과 은을 모두 꺼내어, 앗시리아의 왕에게 선물로 보냈다

( And Ahaz took the silver and gold found in the temple of the LORD and in the treasuries of the royal palace and sent it as a gift to the king of Assyria.)

 

16:9 앗시리아의 왕이 그의 요청을 듣고, 다마스쿠스로 진군하여 올라와서는 그 성을 함락시켰다 그리고 그 주민을 길로 사로잡아 가고, 르신은 살해하였다

( The king of Assyria complied by attacking Damascus and capturing it. He deported its inhabitants to Kir and put Rezin to death.)

 

16:10 아하스 왕은 앗시리아의 디글랏빌레셀 왕을 만나려고 다마스쿠스로 갔다 그는 그 곳 다마스쿠스에 있는 제단을 보고, 그 제단의 모형과 도본을 세밀하게 그려서, 우리야 제사장에게 보냈다

( Then King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria. He saw an altar in Damascus and sent to Uriah the priest a sketch of the altar, with detailed plans for its construction.)

 

16:11 그래서 우리야 제사장은, 아하스 왕이 다마스쿠스로부터 보내 온 것을 따라서, 제단을 만들었다 우리야 제사장은 아하스 왕이 다마스쿠스로부터 돌아오기 전에 제단 건축을 모두 완성하였다

( So Uriah the priest built an altar in accordance with all the plans that King Ahaz had sent from Damascus and finished it before King Ahaz returned.)

 

16:12 왕은 다마스쿠스로부터 돌아와서, 그 제단을 보고 제단으로 나아가 그 위로 올라갔다

( When the king came back from Damascus and saw the altar, he approached it and presented offerings on it.)

 

16:13 그리고 거기에서 그가 직접 번제물과 곡식제물을 드렸고, '부어 드리는 제물'을 따르기도 하였다 또 제단 위에 화목제물의 피도 뿌렸다

( He offered up his burnt offering and grain offering, poured out his drink offering, and sprinkled the blood of his fellowship offerings on the altar.)

 

16:14 그리고 그는 주님 앞에 놓여 있는 놋제단을 성전 앞에서 옮겼는데, 새 제단과 주님의 성전 사이에 있는 놋제단을 새 제단 북쪽에 갖다 놓았다

( The bronze altar that stood before the LORD he brought from the front of the temple--from between the new altar and the temple of the LORD--and put it on the north side of the new altar.)

 

16:15 아하스 왕은 우리야 제사장에게 명령하였다 "아침 번제물과 저녁 곡식예물, 왕의 번제물과 곡식예물, 또 이 땅의 모든 백성의 번제물과 곡식예물과 부어 드리는 예물을, 모두 이 큰 제단 위에서 드리도록 하고, 번제물과 희생제물의 모든 피를, 그 위에 뿌리시오 그러나 그 놋제단은, 내가 주님께 여쭈어 볼 때에만 쓰겠소"

( King Ahaz then gave these orders to Uriah the priest: "On the large new altar, offer the morning burnt offering and the evening grain offering, the king's burnt offering and his grain offering, and the burnt offering of all the people of the land, and their grain offering and their drink offering. Sprinkle on the altar all the blood of the burnt offerings and sacrifices. But I will use the bronze altar for seeking guidance.")

 

16:16 우리야 제사장은 아하스 왕이 명령한 대로 이행하였다

( And Uriah the priest did just as King Ahaz had ordered.)

 

16:17 아하스 왕은 대야의 놋쇠 테두리를 떼어 버리고, 놋대야를 그 자리에서 옮기고, 또 놋쇠 소가 받치고 있는 놋쇠 바다를 뜯어 내어 돌받침 위에 놓았다

( King Ahaz took away the side panels and removed the basins from the movable stands. He removed the Sea from the bronze bulls that supported it and set it on a stone base.)

 

16:18 또 그는 앗시리아 왕에게 경의를 표하려고, 주님의 성전 안에 만들어 둔 왕의 안식일 전용 통로와 주님의 성전 바깥에 만든 전용 출입구를 모두 없애 버렸다

( He took away the Sabbath canopy that had been built at the temple and removed the royal entryway outside the temple of the LORD, in deference to the king of Assyria.)

( In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah, Hoshea son of Elah became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned nine years.)

 

17:2 그는 주님께서 보시기에 악을 행하였으나, 그 이전의 이스라엘 왕들만큼 악하지는 않았다

( He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, but not like the kings of Israel who preceded him.)

 

17:3 앗시리아의 살만에셀 왕이 그를 치러 올라오니, 호세아 왕은 그에게 항복하고 조공을 바쳤다

( Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up to attack Hoshea, who had been Shalmaneser's vassal and had paid him tribute.)

 

17:4 그러나 앗시리아 왕은, 호세아가 이집트의 소 왕에게 사절들을 보내어 반역을 기도하고, 해마다 하던 것과는 달리, 앗시리아 왕에게 조공을 내지 않는 것을 알고 나서는, 호세아를 잡아 감옥에 가두었다

( But the king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea was a traitor, for he had sent envoys to So king of Egypt, and he no longer paid tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore Shalmaneser seized him and put him in prison.)

 

앗시리아 왕이 사마리아를 점령하다

 

17:5 그리고 난 뒤에 앗시리아의 왕이 이스라엘 전역으로 밀고 들어와서, 사마리아로 올라와 세 해 동안이나 도성을 포위하였다

( The king of Assyria invaded the entire land, marched against Samaria and laid siege to it for three years.)

 

17:6 드디어 호세아 제 구년에 앗시리아 왕은 사마리아를 점령하고, 이스라엘 사람들을 앗시리아로 끌고 가서, 할라와 고산 강 가에 있는 하볼과 메대의 여러 성읍에 이주시켰다

( In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and deported the Israelites to Assyria. He settled them in Halah, in Gozan on the Habor River and in the towns of the Medes.)

 

17:7 이렇게 된 것은, 이스라엘 자손이 자기들을 이집트 땅에서 이끌어 내어 이집트 왕 바로의 손아귀로부터 구원하여 주신 주 하나님을 거역하여, 죄를 짓고 다른 신들을 섬겼기 때문이며,

( All this took place because the Israelites had sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them up out of Egypt from under the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. They worshiped other gods)

 

17:8 또 주님께서 이스라엘 자손의 면전에서 내쫓으신 이방 나라들의 관습과, 이스라엘의 역대 왕들이 잘못한 것을, 그들이 그대로 따랐기 때문이다

( and followed the practices of the nations the LORD had driven out before them, as well as the practices that the kings of Israel had introduced.)

 

17:9 이스라엘 자손은 또한 주님이신 그들의 하나님을 거역하여 옳지 못한 일을 저질렀다 곧, 망대로부터 요새화된 성읍에 이르기까지, 온 성읍 안에 그들 스스로 산당을 세웠으며,

( The Israelites secretly did things against the LORD their God that were not right. From watchtower to fortified city they built themselves high places in all their towns.)

 

17:10 또 높은 언덕과 푸른 나무 아래에는 어느 곳에나 돌기둥들과 아세라 목상들을 세웠으며,

( They set up sacred stones and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every spreading tree.)

 

17:11 주님께서 그들의 면전에서 내쫓으신 이방 나라들처럼, 모든 산당에서 분향을 하여 주님의 진노를 일으키는 악한 일을 하였으며,

( At every high place they burned incense, as the nations whom the LORD had driven out before them had done. They did wicked things that provoked the LORD to anger.)

 

17:12 또한 주님께서 그들에게 하지 말라고 하신 우상숭배를 하였다

( They worshiped idols, though the LORD had said, "You shall not do this.")

 

17:13 그런데도 주님께서는 이스라엘과 유다에 여러 예언자와 선견자를 보내어서 충고하셨다 "너희는 너희의 그 악한 길에서부터 돌아서서, 내가 너희 조상에게 명하고, 또 나의 종 예언자들을 시켜 내가 너희에게 준 그 모든 율법에 따라, 나의 명령과 나의 율례를 지켜라"

( The LORD warned Israel and Judah through all his prophets and seers: "Turn from your evil ways. Observe my commands and decrees, in accordance with the entire Law that I commanded your fathers to obey and that I delivered to you through my servants the prophets.")

 

17:14 그러나 그들은 끝내 듣지 아니하였고, 주님이신 그들의 하나님께 신실하지 못하였던 그들의 조상들처럼, 완고하였다

( But they would not listen and were as stiff-necked as their fathers, who did not trust in the LORD their God.)

 

17:15 그리고 주님의 율례와, 주님께서 그들의 조상과 세우신 언약과, 그들에게 주신 경고의 말씀을 거절하고, 헛된 것을 따라가며 그 헛된 것에 미혹되었으며, 주님께서 본받지 말라고 명하신 이웃 나라들을 본받았다

( They rejected his decrees and the covenant he had made with their fathers and the warnings he had given them. They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless. They imitated the nations around them although the LORD had ordered them, "Do not do as they do," and they did the things the LORD had forbidden them to do.)

 

17:16 또 그들은 주님이신 그들의 하나님께서 주신 그 모든 명을 내버리고, 쇠를 녹여 부어 두 송아지 형상을 만들었으며, 아세라 목상을 만들어 세우고, 하늘의 별들에게 절하며, 바알을 섬겼다

( They forsook all the commands of the LORD their God and made for themselves two idols cast in the shape of calves, and an Asherah pole. They bowed down to all the starry hosts, and they worshiped Baal.)

 

17:17 그들은 또한 자기들의 자녀들을 불살라 제물로 바치는 일도 하였다 그리고 복술도 하고, 주문도 외우며, 주님께서 보시기에 악한 일을 함으로써 주님께서 진노하시게 하였다

( They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire. They practiced divination and sorcery and sold themselves to do evil in the eyes of the LORD, provoking him to anger.)

 

17:18 그러므로 주님께서는 이스라엘에게 크게 진노하셨고, 그들을 그 면전에서 내쫓으시니 남은 것은 유다 지파뿐이었다

( So the LORD was very angry with Israel and removed them from his presence. Only the tribe of Judah was left,)

 

17:19 그러나 유다도 또한 그들의 주님이신 하나님의 명령을 잘 지키지 아니하고, 이스라엘 사람들이 만든 규례를 그대로 따랐다

( and even Judah did not keep the commands of the LORD their God. They followed the practices Israel had introduced.)

 

17:20 그리하여 주님께서는 이스라엘의 모든 자손을 내쫓으시고, 그들을 징계하여 침략자들의 손에 넘겨 주셔서, 마침내는 주님의 면전에서 내쫓기까지 하셨다

( Therefore the LORD rejected all the people of Israel; he afflicted them and gave them into the hands of plunderers, until he thrust them from his presence.)

 

17:21 그래서 이스라엘은 다윗의 집으로부터 갈라졌으며, 이스라엘은 느밧의 아들 여로보암을 왕으로 삼았고, 여로보암은 또한 이스라엘이 주님을 버리고 떠나서 큰 죄를 짓도록 만들었다

( When he tore Israel away from the house of David, they made Jeroboam son of Nebat their king. Jeroboam enticed Israel away from following the LORD and caused them to commit a great sin.)

 

17:22 이렇게 하여 이스라엘 자손은, 여로보암이 지은 그 모든 죄를 본받아 그대로 따라갔고, 그 죄로부터 돌이키려고 하지 않았다

( The Israelites persisted in all the sins of Jeroboam and did not turn away from them)

 

17:23 마침내 주님께서는, 그 종 예언자들을 보내어 경고하신 대로, 이스라엘을 그 면전에서 내쫓으셨다 그래서 이 날까지 이스라엘은 자기들의 땅에서 앗시리아로 사로잡혀 가 있게 된 것이다

( until the LORD removed them from his presence, as he had warned through all his servants the prophets. So the people of Israel were taken from their homeland into exile in Assyria, and they are still there.)

 

앗시리아 사람들이 이스라엘에 정착하다

 

17:24 이스라엘 자손을 사마리아에서 쫓아낸 앗시리아 왕은 바빌론과 구다와 아와와 하맛과 스발와임으로부터 사람들을 데려와서, 이스라엘 자손을 대신하여 사마리아 성읍에 살게 하였다 그러자 그들은 사마리아를 자기들의 소유로 삼았으며, 이스라엘 성읍들 안에 정착하여 살았다

( The king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva, Hamath and Sepharvaim and settled them in the towns of Samaria to replace the Israelites. They took over Samaria and lived in its towns.)

 

17:25 그들은 그 곳에 정착하면서, 처음에는 주님을 경외하지 않았다 그래서 주님께서는 사나운 사자들을 그들 가운데 풀어 놓으셔서, 그들을 물어 죽이게 하셨다

( When they first lived there, they did not worship the LORD; so he sent lions among them and they killed some of the people.)

 

17:26 그러므로 그들이 앗시리아 왕에게 이 사실을 알리면서 이렇게 말하였다 "임금님께서 우리를 사마리아로 이주시키셔서, 이 성읍에서 살게 하셨습니다 그렇지만 이리로 이주한 민족들은 이 지역의 신에 관한 관습을 모릅니다 그래서 그 신이 우리들 가운데 사자를 보내어, 우리들을 계속 물어 죽이게 하였습니다 이것은 이 땅의 신에 대한 관습을 모르기 때문에 일어난 일인 줄 압니다"

( It was reported to the king of Assyria: "The people you deported and resettled in the towns of Samaria do not know what the god of that country requires. He has sent lions among them, which are killing them off, because the people do not know what he requires.")

 

17:27 그래서 앗시리아 왕은 부하들에게 다음과 같은 지시를 하였다 "그 곳에서 사로잡아 온 제사장 한 명을 그 곳으로 돌려보내어라 그가 그 곳에 살면서, 그 지역의 신에 대한 관습을 새 이주민에게 가르치게 하여라"

( Then the king of Assyria gave this order: "Have one of the priests you took captive from Samaria go back to live there and teach the people what the god of the land requires.")

 

17:28 그리하여 사마리아로부터 사로잡혀 온 제사장 가운데 한 사람이, 그리로 돌아가 베델에 살면서, 주님을 경외하는 방법을 그들에게 가르쳤다

( So one of the priests who had been exiled from Samaria came to live in Bethel and taught them how to worship the LORD.)

 

17:29 그러나 각 민족은 제각기 자기들의 신들을 만들어 섬겼다 그래서 각 민족은 그들이 살고 있는 성읍 안에서 만든 신들을 사마리아 사람들이 만든 산당 안에 가져다 놓았다

( Nevertheless, each national group made its own gods in the several towns where they settled, and set them up in the shrines the people of Samaria had made at the high places.)

 

17:30 바빌론 사람들은 숙곳브놋을 만들고, 구다 사람들은 네르갈을 만들고, 하맛 사람들은 아시마를 만들었다

( The men from Babylon made Succoth Benoth, the men from Cuthah made Nergal, and the men from Hamath made Ashima;)

 

17:31 아와 사람들은 닙하스와 다르닥을 만들었으며, 스발와임 사람들은 자기들의 신인 아드람멜렉과 아남멜렉에게 그들의 자녀를 불살라 바치기도 하였다

( the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burned their children in the fire as sacrifices to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.)

 

17:32 그러면서도 그들은 주님을 공경하기도 하였다 그리하여 그들은 그들 가운데서 산당 제사장을 뽑아 세워, 산당에서 제사를 드리게 하였다

( They worshiped the LORD, but they also appointed all sorts of their own people to officiate for them as priests in the shrines at the high places.)

 

17:33 이렇게 그들은 주님도 경외하면서, 다른 한편으로는 그들이 잡혀오기 전에 살던 그 지역의 관습을 따라, 그들 자신들이 섬기던 신도 섬겼다

( They worshiped the LORD, but they also served their own gods in accordance with the customs of the nations from which they had been brought.)

 

17:34 그들은 오늘날까지도 그들의 옛 관습을 따르고 있어서, 주님을 바르게 경외하는 사람이 없다 그들은 주님께서 이스라엘이라고 이름을 지어 주신 야곱의 자손에게 명하신, 그 율례와 법도와 율법과 계명을 지키지 않는다

( To this day they persist in their former practices. They neither worship the LORD nor adhere to the decrees and ordinances, the laws and commands that the LORD gave the descendants of Jacob, whom he named Israel.)

 

17:35 옛날에 주님께서 야곱의 자손과 언약을 세우시고 명하셨다 "너희는 다른 신들을 경외하지 못한다 그들에게 절하지 못하며, 그들을 섬기지 못하며, 그들에게 제사드리지 못한다

( When the LORD made a covenant with the Israelites, he commanded them: "Do not worship any other gods or bow down to them, serve them or sacrifice to them.)

 

17:36 오직 큰 능력으로 팔을 펴시어 너희를 이집트 땅에서 이끌어 내신 그분 주님만을 경외하고, 그분에게만 절하고 제사를 드려야 한다

( But the LORD, who brought you up out of Egypt with mighty power and outstretched arm, is the one you must worship. To him you shall bow down and to him offer sacrifices.)

 

17:37 주님께서 몸소 기록하셔서 너희에게 주신 율례와 법도와 율법과 계명을 항상 지키고, 다른 신을 경외하지 않아야 한다

( You must always be careful to keep the decrees and ordinances, the laws and commands he wrote for you. Do not worship other gods.)

 

17:38 내가 너희와 세운 언약을 잊어서는 안 된다 다른 신들을 경외하지 못한다

( Do not forget the covenant I have made with you, and do not worship other gods.)

 

17:39 오직 너희는 주 너희의 하나님만을 경외하여야 한다 그분만이 너희를 모든 원수의 손에서 구원하여 주실 것이다"

( Rather, worship the LORD your God; it is he who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies.")

 

17:40 그러나 그들은 이 명령을 들으려 하지 않고, 그들의 옛 관습만을 그대로 지키려고 하였다

( They would not listen, however, but persisted in their former practices.)

 

17:41 그리하여 이주해 온 민족들은 한편으로는 주님을 경외하면서도, 다른 한편으로는 그들이 부어 만든 우상들을 또한 섬겼다 그들의 자녀와 자손도 그들의 조상이 한 것을 오늘날까지도 그대로 따라 하고 있다

( Even while these people were worshiping the LORD, they were serving their idols. To this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their fathers did.)
