사무엘상 13장

 

사울이 블레셋과 싸우다

 

13:1 사울이 왕이 되었을 때에, 그의 나이는 서른 살이었다 그가 이스라엘을 다스린 것은 마흔두 해였다

( Saul was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned over Israel forty- two years.)

 

13:2 그는 이스라엘에서 삼천 명을 뽑아서, 그 가운데서 이천 명은 자기와 함께 믹마스와 베델 산지에 있게 하고, 일천 명은 요나단과 함께 베냐민 지파의 땅 기브아로 보내고, 나머지 군대는 모두 각자의 집으로 돌려보냈다

( Saul chose three thousand men from Israel; two thousand were with him at Micmash and in the hill country of Bethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan at Gibeah in Benjamin. The rest of the men he sent back to their homes.)

 

13:3 요나단이 게바에 있는 블레셋 사람의 수비대를 치자, 블레셋 사람들이 그 소식을 들었다 사울이 온 나라에 나팔을 불어서, 히브리 사람 소집령을 내렸다

( Jonathan attacked the Philistine outpost at Geba, and the Philistines heard about it. Then Saul had the trumpet blown throughout the land and said, "Let the Hebrews hear!")

 

13:4 온 이스라엘 백성은, 사울이 블레셋 수비대를 쳐서, 이스라엘이 블레셋 사람들의 미움을 사게 되었다는 말을 듣고, 길갈로 모여 와서 사울을 따랐다

( So all Israel heard the news: "Saul has attacked the Philistine outpost, and now Israel has become a stench to the Philistines." And the people were summoned to join Saul at Gilgal.)

 

13:5 블레셋 사람들도 이스라엘과 싸우려고 모였는데, 병거가 삼만에다가, 기마가 육천이나 되었고, 보병은 바닷가의 모래알처럼 많아서 셀 수가 없었다 블레셋 군대는 벳아웬의 동쪽 믹마스로 올라와서 진을 쳤다

( The Philistines assembled to fight Israel, with three thousand chariots, six thousand charioteers, and soldiers as numerous as the sand on the seashore. They went up and camped at Micmash, east of Beth Aven.)

 

13:6 이스라엘 사람들은, 자기들이 위급하게 되었다는 것과 군대가 포위되었다는 것을 알고는, 저마다 굴이나 숲이나 바위틈이나 구덩이나 웅덩이 속으로 기어들어가 숨었다

( When the men of Israel saw that their situation was critical and that their army was hard pressed, they hid in caves and thickets, among the rocks, and in pits and cisterns.)

 

13:7 히브리 사람들 가운데서 더러는 요단 강을 건너, 갓과 길르앗 지역으로 달아났다 사울은 그대로 길갈에 남아 있었고, 그를 따르는 군인들은 모두 떨고 있었다

( Some Hebrews even crossed the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. Saul remained at Gilgal, and all the troops with him were quaking with fear.)

 

13:8 사울은 사무엘의 말대로 이레 동안 사무엘을 기다렸으나, 그는 길갈로 오지 않았다 그러자 백성은 사울에게서 떠나 흩어지기 시작하였다

( He waited seven days, the time set by Samuel; but Samuel did not come to Gilgal, and Saul's men began to scatter.)

 

13:9 사울은 사람들을 시켜 번제물과 화목제물을 가지고 오라고 한 다음에, 자신이 직접 번제를 올렸다

( So he said, "Bring me the burnt offering and the fellowship offerings." And Saul offered up the burnt offering.)

 

13:10 사울이 막 번제를 올리고 나자, 사무엘이 도착하였다 사울이 나가 그를 맞으며 인사를 드리니,

( Just as he finished making the offering, Samuel arrived, and Saul went out to greet him.)

 

13:11 사무엘이 꾸짖었다 "임금님이 어찌하여 이런 일을 하셨습니까?" 사울이 대답하였다 "백성은 나에게서 떠나 흩어지고, 제사장께서는 약속한 날짜에 오시지도 않고, 블레셋 사람은 믹마스에 모여들고 있었습니다

( "What have you done?" asked Samuel. Saul replied, "When I saw that the men were scattering, and that you did not come at the set time, and that the Philistines were assembling at Micmash,)

 

13:12 이러다가는 제가 주님께 은혜를 구하기도 전에, 블레셋 사람이 길갈로 내려와서 칠 것 같은 생각이 들어서, 할 수 없이 번제를 드렸습니다"

( I thought, 'Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not sought the LORD'S favor.' So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering.")

 

13:13 사무엘이 사울에게 말하였다 "해서는 안 될 일을 하셨습니다 주 하나님이 명하신 것을 임금님이 지키지 않으셨습니다 명령을 어기지 않으셨더라면, 임금님과 임금님의 자손이 언제까지나 이스라엘을 다스리도록 주님께서 영원토록 굳게 세워 주셨을 것입니다

( "You acted foolishly," Samuel said. "You have not kept the command the LORD your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time.)

 

13:14 그러나 이제는 임금님의 왕조가 더 이상 계속되지 못할 것입니다 주님께서 임금님께 명하신 것을 임금님이 지키지 않으셨기 때문에, 주님께서는 달리 마음에 맞는 사람을 찾아서, 그를, 당신의 백성을 다스릴 영도자로 세우셨습니다"

( But now your kingdom will not endure; the LORD has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him leader of his people, because you have not kept the LORD'S command.")

 

13:15 사무엘이 일어나서 길갈을 떠나, 베냐민 땅의 기브아로 올라갔다 사울이 자기와 함께 있는 백성들을 세어 보니, 약 육백 명쯤 되었다

( Then Samuel left Gilgal and went up to Gibeah in Benjamin, and Saul counted the men who were with him. They numbered about six hundred.)

 

13:16 사울과 그의 아들 요나단은 자기들과 함께 있는 백성들을 거느리고 베냐민 땅 게바에 머물고 있었고, 블레셋 군대는 믹마스에 진을 치고 있었다

( Saul and his son Jonathan and the men with them were staying in Gibeah in Benjamin, while the Philistines camped at Micmash.)

 

13:17 블레셋 진영에서는 이미 특공대를 셋으로 나누어 습격하려고 출동하였다 한 부대는 수알 땅 오브라 쪽으로 가고,

( Raiding parties went out from the Philistine camp in three detachments. One turned toward Ophrah in the vicinity of Shual,)

 

13:18 다른 한 부대는 벳호론 쪽으로 가고, 나머지 한 부대는 스보임 골짜기와 멀리 광야가 내려다보이는 경계선 쪽으로 떠났다

( another toward Beth Horon, and the third toward the borderland overlooking the Valley of Zeboim facing the desert.)

 

13:19 당시 이스라엘 땅에는 대장장이가 한 명도 없었다 히브리 사람이 칼이나 창을 만드는 것을, 블레셋 사람들이 허용하지 않았기 때문이다

( Not a blacksmith could be found in the whole land of Israel, because the Philistines had said, "Otherwise the Hebrews will make swords or spears!")

 

13:20 이스라엘 사람들은 보습이나 곡괭이나 도끼나 낫을 벼릴 일이 있으면, 블레셋 사람에게로 가야만 하였다

( So all Israel went down to the Philistines to have their plowshares, mattocks, axes and sickles sharpened.)

 

13:21 보습이나 곡괭이를 벼리는 데는 삼분의 이 세겔이 들었고, 도끼나 낫을 가는 데는 삼분의 일 세겔이 들었다

( The price was two thirds of a shekel for sharpening plowshares and mattocks, and a third of a shekel for sharpening forks and axes and for repointing goads.)

 

13:22 그래서 전쟁이 일어났을 때에, 사울과 요나단을 따라나선 모든 군인의 손에는 칼이나 창이 없었다 오직 사울과 그의 아들 요나단의 손에만 그런 무기가 있었다

( So on the day of the battle not a soldier with Saul and Jonathan had a sword or spear in his hand; only Saul and his son Jonathan had them.)

 

13:23 블레셋 군대의 전초부대는 이미 믹마스 어귀에 나와 있었다

( Now a detachment of Philistines had gone out to the pass at Micmash.)

사무엘상 14장

 

블레셋을 습격한 요나단

 

14:1 하루는 사울의 아들 요나단이 자기의 무기를 든 젊은 병사에게 말하였다 "우리가 저 건너편에 있는 블레셋 군대의 전초부대로 건너가자" 그러나 요나단은 이 일을 자기의 아버지에게는 알리지 않았다

( One day Jonathan son of Saul said to the young man bearing his armor, "Come, let's go over to the Philistine outpost on the other side." But he did not tell his father.)

 

14:2 사울은 그 때에 기브아에서 그리 멀지 않은, 미그론에 있는 석류나무 아래에 머물러 있었다 사울을 따라나선 군인들은 그 수가 약 육백 명쯤 되었다

( Saul was staying on the outskirts of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree in Migron. With him were about six hundred men,)

 

14:3 （아히야가 에봇을 입고 제사장 일을 맡고 있었는데, 그는 바로 이가봇의 형제이다 아히야의 아버지는 아히둡이고, 할아버지는 비느하스이고, 그 윗대는 실로에서 주님을 모시던 제사장 엘리이다） 그들 가운데 아무도 요나단이 떠난 것을 알지 못하였다

( among whom was Ahijah, who was wearing an ephod. He was a son of Ichabod's brother Ahitub son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the LORD'S priest in Shiloh. No one was aware that Jonathan had left.)

 

14:4 요나단이 블레셋 군대의 전초부대로 들어가려면 꼭 지나야 하는 길목이 있었는데, 거기에는 양쪽으로 험한 바위가 있었다 한쪽 바위의 이름은 보세스이고, 다른 한쪽 바위의 이름은 세네이다

( On each side of the pass that Jonathan intended to cross to reach the Philistine outpost was a cliff; one was called Bozez, and the other Seneh.)

 

14:5 바위 하나는 북쪽에서 거대한 기둥처럼 치솟아올라 믹마스를 바라보고 있었고, 다른 하나는 남쪽에서 치솟아올라 게바를 바라보고 있었다

( One cliff stood to the north toward Micmash, the other to the south toward Geba.)

 

14:6 요나단이 무기를 든 젊은 병사에게 말하였다 "저 할례받지 않은 이방인의 전초부대로 건너가자 주님께서 도와 주시면 승리를 거둘 수도 있다 주님께서 허락하시는 승리는 군대의 수가 많고 적음에 달려 있지 않다"

( Jonathan said to his young armor-bearer, "Come, let's go over to the outpost of those uncircumcised fellows. Perhaps the LORD will act in our behalf. Nothing can hinder the LORD from saving, whether by many or by few.")

 

14:7 그의 무기를 든 병사가 대답하였다 "무엇이든 하시고자 하는 대로 하십시오 무엇을 하시든지 그대로 따르겠습니다"

( "Do all that you have in mind," his armor-bearer said. "Go ahead; I am with you heart and soul.")

 

14:8 요나단이 말하였다 "우리가 저 사람들에게로 건너가서 그들에게 우리를 드러내 보이자

( Jonathan said, "Come, then; we will cross over toward the men and let them see us.)

 

14:9 그 때에 그들이 우리에게, 꼼짝 말고 서서 자기들이 올 때까지 기다리라고 하면, 우리는 올라가지 않고 있던 그 자리에 그대로 선다

( If they say to us, 'Wait there until we come to you,' we will stay where we are and not go up to them.)

 

14:10 그러나 그들이 우리를 자기들에게로 올라오라고 하면, 우리는 올라간다 이것을, 주님께서 그들을 우리에게 넘겨 주셨다는 징조로 알자"

( But if they say, 'Come up to us,' we will climb up, because that will be our sign that the LORD has given them into our hands.")

 

14:11 그 두 사람이 블레셋 사람의 전초부대에게 자기들을 드러내 보이니, 블레셋 군인들이 소리쳤다 "저기 보아라! 히브리 사람들이 그 숨어 있는 굴에서 나온다"

( So both of them showed themselves to the Philistine outpost. "Look!" said the Philistines. "The Hebrews are crawling out of the holes they were hiding in.")

 

14:12 전초부대의 군인들이 요나단과 그의 무기를 든 병사에게 소리쳤다 "이리로 올라오너라 너희에게 보여 줄 것이 있다" 요나단이 자기의 무기를 든 병사를 돌아보며 말하였다 "너는 나를 따라 올라오너라 주님께서 그들을 이스라엘의 손에 넘겨 주셨다"

( The men of the outpost shouted to Jonathan and his armor-bearer, "Come up to us and we'll teach you a lesson." So Jonathan said to his armor-bearer, "Climb up after me; the LORD has given them into the hand of Israel.")

 

14:13 요나단이 손과 발로 기어올라갔고, 그의 무기를 든 병사도 그 뒤를 따라 올라갔다 요나단이 블레셋 군인들을 쳐서 쓰러뜨렸고, 그의 무기를 든 병사도 그 뒤를 따라가면서, 닥치는 대로 쳐죽였다

( Jonathan climbed up, using his hands and feet, with his armor-bearer right behind him. The Philistines fell before Jonathan, and his armor-bearer followed and killed behind him.)

 

14:14 이렇게 요나단이 자기의 무기를 든 병사와 함께, 겨릿소 한 쌍이 반나절에 갈아엎을 만한 들판에서, 처음으로 쳐죽인 사람은 스무 명쯤 되었다

( In that first attack Jonathan and his armor-bearer killed some twenty men in an area of about half an acre.)

 

14:15 이 때에 블레셋 군인들은, 진 안에 있는 군인들이나 싸움터에 있는 군인들이나 전초부대의 군인들이나 특공대의 군인들이나, 모두가 공포에 떨고 있었다 땅마저 흔들렸다 하나님이 보내신 크나큰 공포가 그들을 휘감았다

( Then panic struck the whole army--those in the camp and field, and those in the outposts and raiding parties--and the ground shook. It was a panic sent by God.)

 

서로 쳐죽이는 블레셋 군인들

 

14:16 베냐민 지역의 기브아에서 망을 보는 사울의 파수꾼들이 건너다 보니, 수많은 블레셋 군인들이 아우성을 치며 이리저리 몰려다니고 있었다

( Saul's lookouts at Gibeah in Benjamin saw the army melting away in all directions.)

 

14:17 그러자 사울이 자기와 함께 있는 군인들에게 명령하였다 "우리 가운데서 누가 빠져 나갔는지 조사하여 밝혀 내어라!" 사람들이 조사하여 보니, 요나단과 그의 무기를 드는 병사가 없었다

( Then Saul said to the men who were with him, "Muster the forces and see who has left us." When they did, it was Jonathan and his armor-bearer who were not there.)

 

14:18 그러자 사울은 아히야에게 하나님의 궤를 가지고 오라고 말하였다 그 때에는 하나님의 궤가 이스라엘 자손과 함께 있었다

( Saul said to Ahijah, "Bring the ark of God." (At that time it was with the Israelites.))

 

14:19 사울이 제사장에게 말을 하고 있는 동안에, 블레셋 진영에서 일어난 아우성 소리가 점점 더 크게 들려왔다 그래서 사울은 제사장에게 궤를 가지고 오지 말라고 하였다

( While Saul was talking to the priest, the tumult in the Philistine camp increased more and more. So Saul said to the priest, "Withdraw your hand.")

 

14:20 사울과 그를 따르는 온 백성이 함께 함성을 지르며 싸움터로 달려가 보니, 블레셋 군인들이 칼을 뽑아들고 저희끼리 서로 정신없이 쳐죽이고 있었다

( Then Saul and all his men assembled and went to the battle. They found the Philistines in total confusion, striking each other with their swords.)

 

14:21 블레셋 사람들 편을 들어 싸움터에까지 나왔던 히브리 사람들도, 이제는 돌이켜서 사울과 요나단이 지휘하는 이스라엘 편이 되었다

( Those Hebrews who had previously been with the Philistines and had gone up with them to their camp went over to the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.)

 

14:22 또 전에 에브라임 산간지방으로 들어가 숨었던 이스라엘 사람들도, 블레셋 사람들이 지고 달아난다는 소식을 듣고, 모두 뛰어나와 블레셋 군인들을 뒤쫓으며 싸웠다

( When all the Israelites who had hidden in the hill country of Ephraim heard that the Philistines were on the run, they joined the battle in hot pursuit.)

 

사울의 맹세와 요나단의 실수

 

14:23 그 날 주님께서 이렇게 이스라엘을 구원하셨다 전쟁은 벳아웬 너머에까지 번졌다

( So the LORD rescued Israel that day, and the battle moved on beyond Beth Aven.)

 

14:24 그 날 이스라엘 사람들은 허기에 지쳐 있었다 사울이 군인들에게 "내가 오늘 저녁에 적군에게 원수를 갚을 때까지, 아무것이라도 먹는 사람은 누구든지 저주를 받을 것이다" 하고 맹세시켰기 때문에, 군인들이 모두 아무것도 먹지 못하였다

( Now the men of Israel were in distress that day, because Saul had bound the people under an oath, saying, "Cursed be any man who eats food before evening comes, before I have avenged myself on my enemies!" So none of the troops tasted food.)

 

14:25 거기에 있던 모든 군인들이 숲으로 들어갔다 들녘의 땅바닥에는 꿀이 있었다

( The entire army entered the woods, and there was honey on the ground.)

 

14:26 군인들이 숲에 이르러서 보니, 벌집에서 꿀이 흘러나오고 있었다 군인들은 맹세한 것이 두려웠기 때문에 아무도 그것을 손가락으로 찍어다 입에 대지 않았다

( When they went into the woods, they saw the honey oozing out, yet no one put his hand to his mouth, because they feared the oath.)

 

14:27 그러나 요나단은 자기의 아버지가 군인들에게 그런 맹세를 시킬 때에 듣지 못하였으므로, 손에 들고 있던 막대기를 내밀어 그 끝으로 벌집에 든 꿀을 찍어서 빨아먹었다 그러자 그는 눈이 번쩍 뜨이고 생기가 넘쳤다

( But Jonathan had not heard that his father had bound the people with the oath, so he reached out the end of the staff that was in his hand and dipped it into the honeycomb. He raised his hand to his mouth, and his eyes brightened.)

 

14:28 그 때에 군인들 가운데 어떤 사람이 나서서, 그에게 알려 주었다 "임금님이 누구든지 오늘 무엇을 먹는 사람은 저주를 받을 것이라고 하시면서, 모든 군인들에게 철저히 금식하도록 맹세를 시키셨습니다 그래서 군인들이 이렇게 지쳐 있습니다"

( Then one of the soldiers told him, "Your father bound the army under a strict oath, saying, 'Cursed be any man who eats food today!' That is why the men are faint.")

 

14:29 그러자 요나단이 탄식하였다 "나의 아버지께서 이 나라를 어렵게 만드셨구나 생각하여 보아라 이 꿀을 조금 찍어서 맛만 보았는데도 눈이 번쩍 뜨이고 생기가 넘치는데,

( Jonathan said, "My father has made trouble for the country. See how my eyes brightened when I tasted a little of this honey.)

 

14:30 오늘 우리 군인들이 적에게서 빼앗은 것을 먹고 싶은 대로 먹었더라면, 얼마나 더 좋았겠느냐? 그랬더라면 블레셋 사람들을 더 많이 죽이지 않았겠느냐?"

( How much better it would have been if the men had eaten today some of the plunder they took from their enemies. Would not the slaughter of the Philistines have been even greater?")

 

14:31 이스라엘 군인들은 바로 그 날, 믹마스에서 아얄론까지 쫓아가며 블레셋 사람들을 쳐죽였으므로 몹시 지쳐 있었다

( That day, after the Israelites had struck down the Philistines from Micmash to Aijalon, they were exhausted.)

 

14:32 그래서 군인들은 약탈하여 온 것에 달려들어, 그 가운데서 양과 소와 송아지를 마구 끌어다가, 땅바닥에서 잡고, 피째로 고기를 먹었다

( They pounced on the plunder and, taking sheep, cattle and calves, they butchered them on the ground and ate them, together with the blood.)

 

14:33 사람들이 이 사실을 사울에게 알렸다 "보십시오, 백성들이 피째로 고기를 먹어, 주님께 죄를 지었습니다" 사울이 말하였다 "당신들은 하나님을 배신하였소! 큰 돌 하나를 여기 나 있는 곳으로 굴려 오시오!"

( Then someone said to Saul, "Look, the men are sinning against the LORD by eating meat that has blood in it." "You have broken faith," he said. "Roll a large stone over here at once.")

 

14:34 사울이 또 지시하였다 "당신들은 백성에게 두루 다니며 알리시오 이제부터는 누구든지, 소나 양을 내게로 끌고 와서, 이 돌 위에서 잡아서 먹도록 하고, 고기를 피째로 먹어서 주님께 범죄하지 않도록 하라고 이르시오" 그 날 밤에 백성들은 제각기 자기들이 차지한 소를 끌어다가 거기에서 잡았다

( Then he said, "Go out among the men and tell them, 'Each of you bring me your cattle and sheep, and slaughter them here and eat them. Do not sin against the LORD by eating meat with blood still in it.'" So everyone brought his ox that night and slaughtered it there.)

 

14:35 그리하여 사울이 주님께 제단을 하나 쌓았는데, 이것이 그가 주님께 쌓은 첫 제단이었다

( Then Saul built an altar to the LORD; it was the first time he had done this.)

 

14:36 사울이 말하였다 "우리가 이 밤에 블레셋 군대를 쫓아 내려가서 동이 틀 때까지 그들을 약탈하고, 한 사람도 남김없이 모조리 죽이도록 합시다" 그들이 대답하였다 "임금님이 좋으시다면, 그대로 하시기 바랍니다" 그러자 제사장이 사울에게 말하였다 "우리가 먼저 하나님께 나아가 여쭈어 보아야 합니다"

( Saul said, "Let us go down after the Philistines by night and plunder them till dawn, and let us not leave one of them alive." "Do whatever seems best to you," they replied. But the priest said, "Let us inquire of God here.")

 

14:37 그래서 사울이 하나님께 여쭈었다 "내가 블레셋 사람을 뒤쫓아 내려가도 되겠습니까? 주님께서 그들을 우리 이스라엘의 손에 넘겨 주시겠습니까?" 그러나 하나님은 그 날 사울에게 아무 대답도 하지 않으셨다

( So Saul asked God, "Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you give them into Israel's hand?" But God did not answer him that day.)

 

14:38 그러자 사울이 이렇게 말하였다 "주님께서 우리에게 응답하지 않으시니, 군지휘관은 모두 앞으로 나오시오 오늘 이 허물이 누구에게 있는지 알아보겠소

( Saul therefore said, "Come here, all you who are leaders of the army, and let us find out what sin has been committed today.)

 

14:39 이스라엘을 구원하신 주님의 살아 계심을 두고 맹세합니다 허물이 나의 아들 요나단에게 있다고 하더라도, 그는 반드시 죽을 것입니다" 그러나 군인들 가운데 어느 한 사람도 감히 그에게 대답하는 사람이 없었다

( As surely as the LORD who rescues Israel lives, even if it lies with my son Jonathan, he must die." But not one of the men said a word.)

 

14:40 사울은 온 이스라엘 군인에게 계속해서 말하였다 "귀관들은 모두 이쪽에 서시오 나와 나의 아들 요나단은 저쪽에 서겠소" 군인들이 모두 사울에게 "임금님이 좋으시다면 그대로 하시기 바랍니다" 하고 대답하였다

( Saul then said to all the Israelites, "You stand over there; I and Jonathan my son will stand over here." "Do what seems best to you," the men replied.)

 

14:41 사울이 주 이스라엘의 하나님께 아뢰었다 "오늘 저에게 응답하지 않으시니, 웬일이십니까? 주 이스라엘의 하나님, 그 허물이 저에게나 저의 자식 요나단에게 있다면 우림이 나오게 하시고, 그 허물이 주님의 백성 이스라엘에게 있다면 둠밈이 나오게 하십시오" 그러자 요나단과 사울이 걸리고, 백성들의 혐의는 벗겨졌다

( Then Saul prayed to the LORD, the God of Israel, "Give me the right answer." And Jonathan and Saul were taken by lot, and the men were cleared.)

 

14:42 사울이 말하였다 "제비를 뽑아서, 나와 나의 아들 요나단 가운데서 누가 죄인인지를 가려 내시오" 그러자 요나단이 걸렸다

( Saul said, "Cast the lot between me and Jonathan my son." And Jonathan was taken.)

 

14:43 사울이 요나단에게 물었다 "네가 무슨 일을 하였는지 나에게 말하여라!" 요나단이 그에게 대답하였다 "손에 들고 있던 막대기 끝으로 꿀을 찍어서 조금 맛보았습니다 죽을 각오를 하고 있습니다"

( Then Saul said to Jonathan, "Tell me what you have done." So Jonathan told him, "I merely tasted a little honey with the end of my staff. And now must I die?")

 

14:44 사울이 선언하였다 "요나단, 너는 죽음을 피할 수 없다 내가 너를 처형하지 않는다면, 하나님이 나에게 천벌을 내리시고 또 내리실 것이다"

( Saul said, "May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if you do not die, Jonathan.")

 

14:45 이 때에 온 백성이 사울에게 호소하였다 "이스라엘에게 이렇게 큰 승리를 안겨 준 요나단을 죽여서야 되겠습니까? 절대로 그럴 수는 없습니다! 주님께서 살아 계심을 걸고 맹세합니다 그의 머리털 하나도 땅에 떨어져서는 안 됩니다 그는 오늘 하나님과 함께 이 일을 이루어 놓은 사람이기 때문입니다" 백성들이 이렇게 요나단을 살려 내어, 그는 죽지 않았다

( But the men said to Saul, "Should Jonathan die--he who has brought about this great deliverance in Israel? Never! As surely as the LORD lives, not a hair of his head will fall to the ground, for he did this today with God's help." So the men rescued Jonathan, and he was not put to death.)

 

14:46 사울은 블레셋 사람을 더 이상 뒤쫓지 않고 돌아섰고, 블레셋 사람도 자기들의 본 고장으로 돌아갔다

( Then Saul stopped pursuing the Philistines, and they withdrew to their own land.)

 

사울의 업적과 그의 집안

 

14:47 사울은 이스라엘을 다스릴 왕권을 얻은 다음부터, 사방에 있는 원수들과 전쟁을 하였다 그는 모압과 암몬 자손과 에돔과 소바 왕들과 블레셋 사람들과 맞서 싸웠는데, 어느 쪽으로 가서 싸우든지 늘 이겼다

( After Saul had assumed rule over Israel, he fought against their enemies on every side: Moab, the Ammonites, Edom, the kings of Zobah, and the Philistines. Wherever he turned, he inflicted punishment on them.)

 

14:48 그는 아말렉까지 쳐서 용맹을 떨쳤다 이렇게 그는 침략자들에게서 이스라엘을 건져 내었다

( He fought valiantly and defeated the Amalekites, delivering Israel from the hands of those who had plundered them.)

 

14:49 사울에게는, 요나단과 리스위와 말기수아라는 아들이 있었다 딸도 둘이 있었는데, 큰 딸의 이름은 메랍이고 작은 딸의 이름은 미갈이다

( Saul's sons were Jonathan, Ishvi and Malki-Shua. The name of his older daughter was Merab, and that of the younger was Michal.)

 

14:50 사울의 아내의 이름은 아히노암인데, 아히마아스의 딸이다 사울의 군사령관은 아브넬인데, 사울의 숙부 넬의 아들이다

( His wife's name was Ahinoam daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of the commander of Saul's army was Abner son of Ner, and Ner was Saul's uncle.)

 

14:51 사울의 아버지는 기스요, 아브넬의 아버지는 넬인데, 둘 다 아비엘의 아들이다

( Saul's father Kish and Abner's father Ner were sons of Abiel.)

 

14:52 사울은 일생 동안 블레셋 사람과 치열하게 싸웠다 그래서 사울은, 용감한 사람이나 힘 센 사람은, 눈에 보이는 대로 자기에게로 불러 들였다

( All the days of Saul there was bitter war with the Philistines, and whenever Saul saw a mighty or brave man, he took him into his service.)

사무엘상 15장

 

아말렉과의 전쟁

 

15:1 사무엘이 사울에게 말하였다 "주님께서 나를 보내셔서, 임금님에게 기름을 부어, 주님의 백성 이스라엘을 다스릴 왕으로 세우게 하셨습니다 이제 주님께서 하시는 말씀을 들으시기 바랍니다

( Samuel said to Saul, "I am the one the LORD sent to anoint you king over his people Israel; so listen now to the message from the LORD.)

 

15:2 만군의 주가 말한다 이스라엘이 이집트에서 나올 때에, 아말렉이 이스라엘에게 한 일 곧 길을 막고 대적한 일 때문에 아말렉을 벌하겠다

( This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt.)

 

15:3 너는 이제 가서 아말렉을 쳐라 그들에게 딸린 것은 모두 전멸시켜라 사정을 보아 주어서는 안 된다 남자와 여자, 어린아이와 젖먹이, 소 떼와 양 떼, 낙타와 나귀 등 무엇이든 가릴 것 없이 죽여라'"

( Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.'")

 

15:4 사울이 백성을 불러모으고 들라임에서 그 수를 헤아려 보니, 보병이 이십만 명이었다 유다에서 온 사람도 만 명이나 되었다

( So Saul summoned the men and mustered them at Telaim--two hundred thousand foot soldiers and ten thousand men from Judah.)

 

15:5 사울은 아말렉 성읍에 이르러서, 물 마른 개울에 군인들을 매복시켰다

( Saul went to the city of Amalek and set an ambush in the ravine.)

 

15:6 사울이 겐 사람들에게 경고하였다 "당신들은 어서 거기에서 떠나시오 내가 아말렉 사람들을 칠 때에, 당신들을 함께 치지 않도록, 그들 가운데서 떠나시오 당신들은 이스라엘 자손이 이집트에서 올라올 때에, 그들에게 친절을 베푼 사람들이오" 그러자 겐 사람들이 아말렉 사람들 가운데서 빠져 나갔다

( Then he said to the Kenites, "Go away, leave the Amalekites so that I do not destroy you along with them; for you showed kindness to all the Israelites when they came up out of Egypt." So the Kenites moved away from the Amalekites.)

 

15:7 그런 다음에 사울은, 하윌라에서부터 이집트의 동쪽에 있는 수르 지역에 이르기까지, 아말렉 사람을 쳤다

( Then Saul attacked the Amalekites all the way from Havilah to Shur, to the east of Egypt.)

 

15:8 아말렉 왕 아각은 사로잡았고, 나머지 백성은 모조리 칼로 쳐서 없애 버렸다

( He took Agag king of the Amalekites alive, and all his people he totally destroyed with the sword.)

 

15:9 그러나 사울과 그의 군대는, 아각뿐만 아니라, 양 떼와 소 떼 가운데서도 가장 좋은 것들과 가장 기름진 짐승들과 어린 양들과 좋은 것들은, 무엇이든지 모두 아깝게 여겨 진멸하지 않고, 다만 쓸모없고 값없는 것들만 골라서 진멸하였다

( But Saul and the army spared Agag and the best of the sheep and cattle, the fat calves and lambs--everything that was good. These they were unwilling to destroy completely, but everything that was despised and weak they totally destroyed.)

 

주께서 사울을 버리시다

 

15:10 주님께서 사무엘에게 말씀하셨다

( Then the word of the LORD came to Samuel:)

 

15:11 "사울을 왕으로 세운 것이 후회된다 그가 나에게서 등을 돌리고, 나의 명령을 따르지 않는다" 그래서 사무엘은 괴로운 마음으로 밤새도록 주님께 부르짖었다

( "I am grieved that I have made Saul king, because he has turned away from me and has not carried out my instructions." Samuel was troubled, and he cried out to the LORD all that night.)

 

15:12 사무엘은 사울을 만나려고 아침에 일찍 일어났다 누군가가, 사울이 갈멜로 가서 승전비를 세우고 나서, 거기에서 떠나 계속 행진하여 길갈로 내려갔다고 전해 주었다

( Early in the morning Samuel got up and went to meet Saul, but he was told, "Saul has gone to Carmel. There he has set up a monument in his own honor and has turned and gone on down to Gilgal.")

 

15:13 사무엘이 사울이 있는 곳에 이르니, 사울이 그를 보고 인사를 하며 말하였다 "주님께서 주시는 복을 받으시기 바랍니다 나는 주님의 명령대로 다 하였습니다"

( When Samuel reached him, Saul said, "The LORD bless you! I have carried out the LORD'S instructions.")

 

15:14 그러자 사무엘이 물었다 "나의 귀에 들리는 이 양 떼의 소리와 내가 듣는 소 떼의 소리는 무엇입니까?"

( But Samuel said, "What then is this bleating of sheep in my ears? What is this lowing of cattle that I hear?")

 

15:15 사울이 대답하였다 "그것은 아말렉 사람에게서 빼앗은 것입니다 우리 군인들이 예언자께서 섬기시는 주 하나님께 제물로 바치려고, 양 떼와 소 떼 가운데서 가장 좋은 것들을 남겼다가 끌어왔습니다 그러나 나머지 것들은 우리가 진멸하였습니다"

( Saul answered, "The soldiers brought them from the Amalekites; they spared the best of the sheep and cattle to sacrifice to the LORD your God, but we totally destroyed the rest.")

 

15:16 사무엘이 사울을 꾸짖었다 "그만두십시오! 지난 밤에 주님께서 나에게 말씀하신 것을 내가 알려 드리겠습니다" 사울이 대답하였다 "말씀하십시오"

( "Stop!" Samuel said to Saul. "Let me tell you what the LORD said to me last night." "Tell me," Saul replied.)

 

15:17 사무엘이 말하였다 "임금님이 스스로를 하찮은 사람이라고 생각하시던 그 무렵에, 주님께서 임금님께 기름을 부어 이스라엘의 왕으로 세우셨습니다 그래서 임금님이 이스라엘 모든 지파의 어른이 되신 것이 아닙니까?

( Samuel said, "Although you were once small in your own eyes, did you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king over Israel.)

 

15:18 주님께서는 임금님을 전쟁터로 내보내시면서, 저 못된 아말렉 사람들을 진멸하고, 그들을 진멸할 때까지 그들과 싸우라고 하셨습니다

( And he sent you on a mission, saying, 'Go and completely destroy those wicked people, the Amalekites; make war on them until you have wiped them out.')

 

15:19 그런데 어찌하여 주님께 순종하지 아니하고, 약탈하는 데만 마음을 쏟으면서, 주님께서 보시는 앞에서 악한 일을 하셨습니까?"

( Why did you not obey the LORD? Why did you pounce on the plunder and do evil in the eyes of the LORD?")

 

15:20 사울이 사무엘에게 대답하였다 "나는 주님께 순종하였습니다 주님께서 보내시는 대로 전쟁터로 나갔고, 아말렉 왕 아각도 잡아왔고, 아말렉 사람도 진멸하였습니다

( "But I did obey the LORD," Saul said. "I went on the mission the LORD assigned me. I completely destroyed the Amalekites and brought back Agag their king.)

 

15:21 다만 우리 군인들이 전리품 가운데서 양 떼와 소 떼는 죽이지 않고 길갈로 끌어왔습니다 그러나 그것은 예언자께서 섬기시는 주 하나님께 제물로 바치려고, 진멸할 짐승들 가운데서 가장 좋은 것으로 골라온 것입니다"

( The soldiers took sheep and cattle from the plunder, the best of what was devoted to God, in order to sacrifice them to the LORD your God at Gilgal.")

 

15:22 사무엘이 나무랐다 "주님께서 어느 것을 더 좋아하시겠습니까? 주님의 말씀에 순종하는 것이겠습니까? 아니면, 번제나 화목제를 드리는 것이겠습니까? 잘 들으십시오 순종이 제사보다 낫고, 말씀을 따르는 것이 숫양의 기름보다 낫습니다

( But Samuel replied: "Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.)

 

15:23 거역하는 것은 점을 치는 죄와 같고, 고집을 부리는 것은 우상을 섬기는 죄와 같습니다 임금님이 주님의 말씀을 버리셨기 때문에, 주님께서도 임금님을 버려 왕이 되지 못하게 하셨습니다"

( For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you as king.")

 

15:24 사울이 사무엘에게 간청하였다 "내가 죄를 지었습니다 주님의 명령과 예언자께서 하신 말씀을 어겼습니다 내가 군인들을 두려워하여, 그들이 하자는 대로 하였습니다

( Then Saul said to Samuel, "I have sinned. I violated the LORD'S command and your instructions. I was afraid of the people and so I gave in to them.)

 

15:25 제발 나의 죄를 용서해 주시고, 나와 함께 가셔서, 내가 주님께 경배할 수 있도록 해주시기 바랍니다"

( Now I beg you, forgive my sin and come back with me, so that I may worship the LORD.")

 

15:26 사무엘이 사울에게 대답하였다 "나는 함께 돌아가지 않겠습니다 임금님께서 주님의 말씀을 버리셨기 때문에, 주님께서도 이미 임금님을 버리셔서, 임금님이 더 이상 이스라엘을 다스리는 왕으로 있을 수 없도록 하셨습니다"

( But Samuel said to him, "I will not go back with you. You have rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD has rejected you as king over Israel!")

 

15:27 사무엘이 거기서 떠나려고 돌아설 때에, 사울이 그의 겉옷자락을 붙잡으니, 옷자락이 찢어졌다

( As Samuel turned to leave, Saul caught hold of the hem of his robe, and it tore.)

 

15:28 사무엘이 그에게 말하였다 "주님께서 오늘 이스라엘 나라를 이 옷자락처럼 찢어서 임금님에게서 빼앗아, 임금님보다 더 나은 다른 사람에게 주셨습니다

( Samuel said to him, "The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today and has given it to one of your neighbors--to one better than you.)

 

15:29 이스라엘의 영광이신 하나님은 거짓말도 안 하시거니와, 뜻을 바꾸지도 않으십니다 하나님은 사람이 아니십니다 그러므로 하나님은 뜻을 바꾸지 않으십니다"

( He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a man, that he should change his mind.")

 

15:30 사울이 간청하였다 "내가 죄를 지었습니다 그러나 나의 백성 이스라엘과 백성의 장로들 앞에서, 제발 나의 체면을 세워 주시기 바랍니다 나와 함께 가셔서, 내가, 예언자께서 섬기시는 주 하나님께 경배할 수 있도록 하여 주십시오"

( Saul replied, "I have sinned. But please honor me before the elders of my people and before Israel; come back with me, so that I may worship the LORD your God.")

 

15:31 사무엘이 사울을 따라 돌아가니, 사울이 주님께 경배를 드렸다

( So Samuel went back with Saul, and Saul worshiped the LORD.)

 

사무엘이 아각을 처형하다

 

15:32 사무엘이 아말렉의 아각 왕을 끌어내라고 명령하였다 아각은 행여 죽을 고비를 넘겼나 싶어 좋아하면서 사무엘 앞에 나왔다

( Then Samuel said, "Bring me Agag king of the Amalekites." Agag came to him confidently, thinking, "Surely the bitterness of death is past.")

 

15:33 사무엘이 말하였다 "당신의 칼에 뭇 여인이 자식을 잃었으니 당신의 어머니도 뭇 여인과 같이 자식을 잃을 것이오" 사무엘은 길갈 성소의 주님 앞에서 아각을 칼로 난도질하여 죽였다

( But Samuel said, "As your sword has made women childless, so will your mother be childless among women." And Samuel put Agag to death before the LORD at Gilgal.)

 

15:34 그런 다음에 사무엘은 라마로 돌아갔고, 사울은 사울기브아에 있는 자기 집으로 올라갔다

( Then Samuel left for Ramah, but Saul went up to his home in Gibeah of Saul.)

 

다윗이 왕이 되다

 

15:35 그 다음부터 사무엘은, 사울 때문에 마음이 상하여, 죽는 날까지 다시는 사울을 만나지 않았고, 주님께서도 사울을 이스라엘의 왕으로 세우신 것을 후회하셨다

( Until the day Samuel died, he did not go to see Saul again, though Samuel mourned for him. And the LORD was grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.)
