사무엘상 20장

 

요나단이 다윗의 탈출을 도와 주다

 

20:1 다윗이 라마의 나욧에서 빠져 나와 집으로 돌아온 다음에, 요나단에게 따져 물었다 "내가 무슨 못할 일을 하였느냐? 내가 무슨 몹쓸 일이라도 하였느냐? 내가 자네의 아버님께 무슨 잘못을 저질렀기에, 아버님이 이토록 나의 목숨을 노리시느냐?"

( Then David fled from Naioth at Ramah and went to Jonathan and asked, "What have I done? What is my crime? How have I wronged your father, that he is trying to take my life?")

 

20:2 요나단이 그에게 대답하였다 "자네를 죽이시다니, 결코 그런 일은 없을 걸세 내가 분명히 말하지만, 우리 아버지는 큰 일이든지 작은 일이든지, 나에게 알리지 않고서는 하시지를 않네 그런데 우리 아버지가 이 일이라고 해서 나에게 숨기실 까닭이 무엇이겠는가? 그럴 리가 없네"

( "Never!" Jonathan replied. "You are not going to die! Look, my father doesn't do anything, great or small, without confiding in me. Why would he hide this from me? It's not so!")

 

20:3 그러나 다윗은 맹세까지 하면서 말하였다 "자네가 나를 지극히 아낀다는 것은, 자네의 아버님도 잘 알고 계시지 않은가? 그렇기 때문에 이 일만은 자네에게 알려서는 안 된다고 생각하셨을 걸세 자네가 알면 매우 슬퍼할 테니까 말일세 주님께서 살아 계시니, 내가 자네에게 분명히 말하겠네 나와 죽음 사이는 한 발짝밖에 되지 않네"

( But David took an oath and said, "Your father knows very well that I have found favor in your eyes, and he has said to himself, 'Jonathan must not know this or he will be grieved.' Yet as surely as the LORD lives and as you live, there is only a step between me and death.")

 

20:4 요나단이 다윗에게 제안하였다 "자네의 소원을 말해 보게 자네를 돕는 일이면, 무엇이든지 하겠네"

( Jonathan said to David, "Whatever you want me to do, I'll do for you.")

 

20:5 다윗이 요나단에게 대답하였다 "내일은 초하루일세 내가 임금님과 함께 앉아서 식사를 해야 하는 날일세 그러나 내가 외출을 할 수 있도록 주선하여 주게 나가서 모레 저녁때까지 들녘에 숨어 있겠네

( So David said, "Look, tomorrow is the New Moon festival, and I am supposed to dine with the king; but let me go and hide in the field until the evening of the day after tomorrow.)

 

20:6 그랬다가 만일 자네의 아버님이 내가 왜 안 보이느냐고 물으시거든, 그 때 자네는, 내가 우리 고향 베들레헴으로 가서 온 가족과 함께 거기에서 매년제를 드릴 때가 되어, 급히 가 보아야 한다고, 말미를 달라고 해서, 허락해 주었다고 말씀드려 주게

( If your father misses me at all, tell him, 'David earnestly asked my permission to hurry to Bethlehem, his hometown, because an annual sacrifice is being made there for his whole clan.')

 

20:7 그 때에 자네의 아버님이 잘 했다고 말씀하시면, 나에게 아무런 화가 미치지 않겠지만, 자네의 아버님이 화를 내시면, 나를 해치려고 결심하신 것으로 알겠네

( If he says, 'Very well,' then your servant is safe. But if he loses his temper, you can be sure that he is determined to harm me.)

 

20:8 자네는 이미 주님 앞에서 나와 가까운 친구로 지내기로 굳게 약속하였으니, 나에게 친구의 의리를 꼭 지켜 주게 그러나 나에게 무슨 허물이 있다면, 자네가 직접 나를 죽이게 나를 자네의 아버님께로 데려갈 까닭이 없지 않은가?"

( As for you, show kindness to your servant, for you have brought him into a covenant with you before the LORD. If I am guilty, then kill me yourself! Why hand me over to your father?")

 

20:9 요나단이 대답하였다 "결코 그런 일은 없을 걸세 우리 아버지가 자네를 해치려는 결심을 한 줄을 알고서야, 내가 어찌 그것을 자네에게 곧 알려 주지 않겠는가?"

( "Never!" Jonathan said. "If I had the least inkling that my father was determined to harm you, wouldn't I tell you?")

 

20:10 그러나 다윗은 요나단에게 물었다 "혹시 자네의 아버님이 자네에게 화를 내면서 대답하시면, 누가 그것을 나에게 알려 주겠는가?"

( David asked, "Who will tell me if your father answers you harshly?")

 

20:11 요나단이 다윗에게 말하였다 "자, 가세 들로 나가세" 둘은 함께 들로 나갔다

( "Come," Jonathan said, "let's go out into the field." So they went there together.)

 

20:12 요나단이 다윗에게 약속하였다 "주 이스라엘의 하나님이 우리의 증인이시네 내가 내일이나 모레 이맘때에 아버지의 뜻을 살펴보고, 자네에게 대하여 좋게 생각하신다면, 사람을 보내어 알리겠네

( Then Jonathan said to David: "By the LORD, the God of Israel, I will surely sound out my father by this time the day after tomorrow! If he is favorably disposed toward you, will I not send you word and let you know?)

 

20:13 아버지가 자네를 해치려 한다는 것을 내가 알고도, 그것을 자네에게 알리지 않아서, 자네가 안전하게 피신하지 못하게 된다면, 주님께서 이 요나단에게 무슨 벌을 내리셔도 달게 받겠네 주님께서 나의 아버지와 함께 계셨던 것처럼, 자네와도 함께 계시기를 바라네

( But if my father is inclined to harm you, may the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if I do not let you know and send you away safely. May the LORD be with you as he has been with my father.)

 

20:14 그 대신 내가 살아 있는 동안은, 내가 주님의 인자하심을 누리며 살 수 있게 해주게 내가 죽은 다음에라도,

( But show me unfailing kindness like that of the LORD as long as I live, so that I may not be killed,)

 

20:15 주님께서 자네 다윗의 원수들을 이 세상에서 다 없애 버리시는 날에라도, 나의 집안과 의리를 끊지 말고 지켜 주게"

( and do not ever cut off your kindness from my family--not even when the LORD has cut off every one of David's enemies from the face of the earth.")

 

20:16 그런 다음에 요나단은 다윗의 집안과 언약을 맺고 말하였다 "주님께서 다윗의 원수들에게 보복하여 주시기를 바라네"

( So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, "May the LORD call David's enemies to account.")

 

20:17 요나단은 다윗을 제 몸처럼 아끼는 터라, 다윗에게 다시 맹세하였다

( And Jonathan had David reaffirm his oath out of love for him, because he loved him as he loved himself.)

 

20:18 요나단이 다윗에게 약속하였다 "내일은 초하루이니, 아버지가 자네의 자리가 빈 것을 보시면, 틀림없이, 자네가 왜 자리를 비웠는지 물으실 걸세

( Then Jonathan said to David: "Tomorrow is the New Moon festival. You will be missed, because your seat will be empty.)

 

20:19 모레까지 기다리다가, 저번 일이 있었을 때에 숨었던 그 곳으로 내려가서, 에셀 바위 곁에 숨어 있게

( The day after tomorrow, toward evening, go to the place where you hid when this trouble began, and wait by the stone Ezel.)

 

20:20 그러면 내가, 연습삼아 어떤 표적을 놓고 활을 쏘는 것처럼, 그 바위 곁으로 화살을 세 번 쏘겠네

( I will shoot three arrows to the side of it, as though I were shooting at a target.)

 

20:21 그런 다음에, 내가 데리고 있는 종을 보내어, 그 화살을 다 찾아오라고 말하겠네 그 때에 내가 그 종에게 큰소리로 '너무 멀리 갔다 이쪽으로 오면서 다 주워 오너라' 하고 말하면, 주님께서 살아 계심을 걸고 맹세하겠네, 자네에게는 아무 일도 없을 것이니, 안심하고 나오게

( Then I will send a boy and say, 'Go, find the arrows.' If I say to him, 'Look, the arrows are on this side of you; bring them here,' then come, because, as surely as the LORD lives, you are safe; there is no danger.)

 

20:22 그러나 내가 그 종에게 '아직 더 가야 된다 화살은 더 먼 곳에 있다' 하고 말하면, 주님께서 자네를 멀리 보내시는 것이니, 떠나가게

( But if I say to the boy, 'Look, the arrows are beyond you,' then you must go, because the LORD has sent you away.)

 

20:23 오직 우리가 함께 약속한 말에 대해서는, 주님께서 길이길이 자네와 나 사이에 증인이 되실 걸세"

( And about the matter you and I discussed--remember, the LORD is witness between you and me forever.")

 

20:24 이리하여 다윗은 들녘에 숨어 있었다 초하루가 되었을 때에, 왕이 식사를 하려고 식탁에 앉았다

( So David hid in the field, and when the New Moon festival came, the king sat down to eat.)

 

20:25 왕이 언제나 하듯이 벽을 등진 자리에 앉자, 요나단이 왕의 맞은쪽에 앉았고, 아브넬은 사울 곁에 앉았다 다윗의 자리는 비어 있었다

( He sat in his customary place by the wall, opposite Jonathan, and Abner sat next to Saul, but David's place was empty.)

 

20:26 그런데도 그 날은, 사울이 아무 말도 하지 않았다 사울은 다윗에게 뜻하지 않은 일이 생겨, 몸이 부정을 타서 아직 깨끗하여지지 않았는가 하고 생각하였다

( Saul said nothing that day, for he thought, "Something must have happened to David to make him ceremonially unclean--surely he is unclean.")

 

20:27 그런데 초하루가 지난 다음날 곧 그 이튿날에도 다윗의 자리가 여전히 비어 있는 것을 보고, 사울이 자기 아들 요나단에게 물었다 "어째서 이새의 아들이 어제도 오늘도 식사하러 나오지 않느냐?"

( But the next day, the second day of the month, David's place was empty again. Then Saul said to his son Jonathan, "Why hasn't the son of Jesse come to the meal, either yesterday or today?")

 

20:28 요나단이 사울에게 대답하였다 "다윗이 저에게 베들레헴에 다녀올 수 있도록 허락하여 달라고 간곡히 요청하였습니다

( Jonathan answered, "David earnestly asked me for permission to go to Bethlehem.)

 

20:29 자기 집안이 베들레헴 성읍에서 제사를 드리는데, 자기 형이 다녀가라고 했다고 하면서, 제가 자기를 아낀다면 자기 형을 만나게 해 달라고, 저에게 간청을 하였습니다 그래서 그가 지금 임금님의 식탁에 나오지 못하였습니다"

( He said, 'Let me go, because our family is observing a sacrifice in the town and my brother has ordered me to be there. If I have found favor in your eyes, let me get away to see my brothers.' That is why he has not come to the king's table.")

 

20:30 사울이 요나단에게 화를 내면서 소리쳤다 "이 패역무도한 계집의 자식아, 네가 이새의 아들과 단짝이 된 것을 내가 모를 줄 알았더냐? 그런 녀석과 단짝이 되다니, 너에게도 부끄러운 일이고 너를 낳은 네 어미를 발가벗기는 망신이 될 뿐이다

( Saul's anger flared up at Jonathan and he said to him, "You son of a perverse and rebellious woman! Don't I know that you have sided with the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the shame of the mother who bore you?)

 

20:31 이새의 아들이 이 세상에 살아 있는 한은, 너도 안전하지 못하고, 너의 나라도 안전하지 못할 줄 알아라 빨리 가서 그 녀석을 당장에 끌어 오너라 그 녀석은 죽어야 마땅하다"

( As long as the son of Jesse lives on this earth, neither you nor your kingdom will be established. Now send and bring him to me, for he must die!")

 

20:32 요나단이 자기 아버지 사울에게 "그가 무슨 못할 일을 하였기에 죽어야 합니까?" 하고 항의하니,

( "Why should he be put to death? What has he done?" Jonathan asked his father.)

 

20:33 그 순간, 사울이 요나단을 찔러 죽이려고 창을 뽑아 겨냥하였다 그제서야 요나단은 자기 아버지가 다윗을 죽이려고 단단히 벼르고 있다는 것을 알아차렸다

( But Saul hurled his spear at him to kill him. Then Jonathan knew that his father intended to kill David.)

 

20:34 요나단도 화가 치밀어 식탁에서 일어섰다 그리고 요나단은 자기 아버지가 다윗을 모욕한 것이 가슴 아파서, 그 달의 이틀째가 되던 그 날은 하루 종일 아무것도 먹지 않았다

( Jonathan got up from the table in fierce anger; on that second day of the month he did not eat, because he was grieved at his father's shameful treatment of David.)

 

20:35 그 다음날 아침에 요나단은 어린 종을 하나 데리고 들녘으로 나가서, 다윗과 약속한 장소로 갔다

( In the morning Jonathan went out to the field for his meeting with David. He had a small boy with him,)

 

20:36 거기에서 요나단은 자기가 데리고 온 어린 종에게 "너는 막 달려가서 내가 지금 쏘는 화살을 주워 오너라!" 하고 시켰다 어린 종이 달려가자, 요나단은 그의 머리 위로 화살을 쏘았다

( and he said to the boy, "Run and find the arrows I shoot." As the boy ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.)

 

20:37 요나단이 쏜 화살이 떨어진 곳으로 그 어린 종이 달려가자, 요나단이 그의 뒤에다 대고 소리쳤다 "아직도 덜 갔다! 화살이 더 먼 곳에 있지 않느냐?"

( When the boy came to the place where Jonathan's arrow had fallen, Jonathan called out after him, "Isn't the arrow beyond you?")

 

20:38 요나단이 그 소년의 뒤에다 대고 계속 소리쳤다 "빨리 빨리! 서 있지 말고 빨리 달려!" 요나단의 어린 종은 화살을 주워다가 자기 상전에게 바쳤다

( Then he shouted, "Hurry! Go quickly! Don't stop!" The boy picked up the arrow and returned to his master.)

 

20:39 그러나 그 어린 종은 아무것도 눈치채지 못하였다 요나단과 다윗만이 그 일을 알았다

( (The boy knew nothing of all this; only Jonathan and David knew.))

 

20:40 그런 다음에 요나단은 데리고 왔던 그 어린 종에게 자기의 무기를 주면서, 그것을 들고 성읍 안으로 들어가라고 말하였다

( Then Jonathan gave his weapons to the boy and said, "Go, carry them back to town.")

 

20:41 그 어린 종이 성읍 안으로 들어가니, 다윗이 그 숨어 있던 바위 곁에서 일어나, 얼굴을 땅에 대면서 세 번 큰 절을 하였다 그리고 그들은 서로 끌어안고 함께 울었는데, 다윗이 더 서럽게 울었다

( After the boy had gone, David got up from the south side of the stone and bowed down before Jonathan three times, with his face to the ground. Then they kissed each other and wept together--but David wept the most.)

 

20:42 그러자 요나단이 다윗에게 말하였다 "잘 가게 우리가 서로 주님의 이름을 걸고 맹세한 것은 잊지 않도록 하세 주님께서 나와 자네 사이에서뿐만 아니라, 나의 자손과 자네의 자손 사이에서도, 길이길이 그 증인이 되실 걸세" 다윗은 일어나 길을 떠났고, 요나단은 성 안으로 들어갔다

( Jonathan said to David, "Go in peace, for we have sworn friendship with each other in the name of the LORD, saying, 'The LORD is witness between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants forever.'" Then David left, and Jonathan went back to the town.)

사무엘상 21장

 

다윗이 사울을 피하여 도망가다

 

21:1 다윗은 놉으로 가서 제사장 아히멜렉에게 이르렀다 아히멜렉이 떨면서 나와서, 다윗을 맞으며 물었다 "동행자도 없이 어떻게 혼자 오셨습니까?"

( David went to Nob, to Ahimelech the priest. Ahimelech trembled when he met him, and asked, "Why are you alone? Why is no one with you?")

 

21:2 다윗이 제사장 아히멜렉에게 대답하였다 "나는 임금님의 명령을 띠고 길을 떠났습니다 임금님이 나에게 임무를 맡기면서 부탁하시기를, 나에게 맡기신 임무를 어느 누구에게도 알리지 말라고 하셨습니다 그래서 부하들과는 약속된 곳에서 만나기로 하였습니다

( David answered Ahimelech the priest, "The king charged me with a certain matter and said to me, 'No one is to know anything about your mission and your instructions.' As for my men, I have told them to meet me at a certain place.)

 

21:3 그런데 지금 제사장님이 혹시 무엇이든 가까이 가지신 것이 좀 없습니까? 빵 다섯 덩이가 있으면 저에게 주십시오 그렇게 안 되면, 있는 대로라도 주십시오"

( Now then, what do you have on hand? Give me five loaves of bread, or whatever you can find.")

 

21:4 그러자 제사장이 다윗에게 말하였다 "지금 보통 빵은 내게 없고, 있는 것은 거룩한 빵뿐입니다 그 젊은이들이 여자만 가까이하지 않았다면, 줄 수가 있습니다"

( But the priest answered David, "I don't have any ordinary bread on hand; however, there is some consecrated bread here--provided the men have kept themselves from women.")

 

21:5 다윗이 제사장에게 말하였다 "원정 길에 오를 때에 늘 그렇게 하듯이, 이번에도 우리는 이삼일 전부터 여자와 가까이하지 않았습니다 비록 이번 출정이 보통의 사명을 띤 길이기는 하지만, 제가 출정할 때에 이미 부하들의 몸은 정결했습니다 그러니 오늘쯤은 그들의 몸이 얼마나 더 정결하겠습니까?"

( David replied, "Indeed women have been kept from us, as usual whenever I set out. The men's things are holy even on missions that are not holy. How much more so today!")

 

21:6 제사장은 그에게 거룩한 빵을 주었다 주님 앞에 차려 놓은 빵 말고는, 다른 빵이 달리 더 없었기 때문이다 그 빵은 새로 만든 뜨거운 빵을 차려 놓으면서, 주님 앞에서 물려 낸 것이었다

( So the priest gave him the consecrated bread, since there was no bread there except the bread of the Presence that had been removed from before the LORD and replaced by hot bread on the day it was taken away.)

 

21:7 （그런데 바로 그 날 사울의 신하 가운데 한 사람이 그 곳에 있었는데, 그는 주님 앞에서 하여야 할 일이 있어서 거기에 머물러 있었다 그의 이름은 도엑인데, 에돔 사람으로서 사울의 목자 가운데서 우두머리였다）

( Now one of Saul's servants was there that day, detained before the LORD; he was Doeg the Edomite, Saul's head shepherd.)

 

21:8 다윗이 아히멜렉에게 또 한 가지를 물었다 "제사장님은 지금 혹시 창이나 칼을 가지고 계신 것이 없습니까? 저는 임금님의 명령이 너무도 급하여서, 나의 칼이나 무기를 가져오지 못했습니다"

( David asked Ahimelech, "Don't you have a spear or a sword here? I haven't brought my sword or any other weapon, because the king's business was urgent.")

 

21:9 제사장이 대답하였다 "그대가 엘라 골짜기에서 쳐죽인 블레셋 사람 골리앗의 칼을, 보자기에 싸서 여기 에봇 뒤에 두었습니다 여기에 이것 말고는 다른 칼이 없으니, 이 칼을 가지고 싶으면 가지십시오" 다윗이 말하였다 "그만한 것이 어디에 또 있겠습니까? 그것을 나에게 주십시오"

( The priest replied, "The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, is here; it is wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you want it, take it; there is no sword here but that one." David said, "There is none like it; give it to me.")

 

블레셋 족속에게 망명한 다윗

 

21:10 다윗이 거기를 떠나, 그 날로 사울에게서 도망하여, 가드 왕 아기스에게로 갔다

( That day David fled from Saul and went to Achish king of Gath.)

 

21:11 아기스의 신하들이 왕에게 보고하였다 "이 사람은 분명히 저 나라의 왕 다윗입니다 이 사람을 두고서, 저 나라의 백성이 춤을 추며, 이렇게 노래하였습니다 '사울은 수천 명을 죽이고, 다윗은 수만 명을 죽였다'"

( But the servants of Achish said to him, "Isn't this David, the king of the land? Isn't he the one they sing about in their dances: "'Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands'?")

 

21:12 다윗은 이 말을 듣고 가슴이 뜨끔했다 그는 가드 왕 아기스 옆에 있는 것도 안전하지 못하다는 생각이 들었다

( David took these words to heart and was very much afraid of Achish king of Gath.)

 

21:13 그래서 그는 그들이 보는 앞에서는 미친 척을 하였다 그들에게 잡혀 있는 동안 그는 미친 사람처럼 행동하여 성문 문짝 위에 아무렇게나 글자를 긁적거리기도 하고, 수염에 침을 질질 흘리기도 하였다

( So he pretended to be insane in their presence; and while he was in their hands he acted like a madman, making marks on the doors of the gate and letting saliva run down his beard.)

 

21:14 그러자 아기스가 신하들에게 소리쳤다 "아니, 미친 녀석이 아니냐? 왜 저런 자를 나에게 끌어 왔느냐?

( Achish said to his servants, "Look at the man! He is insane! Why bring him to me?)

 

21:15 나에게 미치광이가 부족해서 저런 자까지 데려다가 내 앞에서 미친 짓을 하게 하느냐? 왕궁에 저런 자까지 들어와 있어야 하느냐?"

( Am I so short of madmen that you have to bring this fellow here to carry on like this in front of me? Must this man come into my house?")

사무엘상 22장

 

사울이 놉의 제사장들을 학살하다

 

22:1 다윗은 거기에서 떠나, 아둘람 굴 속으로 몸을 피하였다 그러자 형들과 온 집안이 그 소식을 듣고, 그 곳으로 내려가, 그에게 이르렀다

( David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam. When his brothers and his father's household heard about it, they went down to him there.)

 

22:2 그들뿐만이 아니라, 압제를 받는 사람들과 빚에 시달리는 사람들과 원통하고 억울한 일을 당한 사람들도, 모두 다윗의 주변으로 몰려들었다 이렇게 해서 다윗은 그들의 우두머리가 되었는데, 사백여 명이나 되는 사람들이 그를 따랐다

( All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered around him, and he became their leader. About four hundred men were with him.)

 

22:3 다윗은 거기에서 모압의 미스바로 가서 모압 왕에게 간청하였다 "내가 해야 할 일이 무엇인가를 하나님이 나에게 알려 주실 때까지, 나의 부모가 이 곳으로 들어와 임금님과 함께 머물도록 허락하여 주시기 바랍니다"

( From there David went to Mizpah in Moab and said to the king of Moab, "Would you let my father and mother come and stay with you until I learn what God will do for me?")

 

22:4 그리하여 다윗은 자기의 부모를 모압 왕에게 부탁하였다 다윗이 산성에 머물러 있는 동안에, 다윗의 부모는 모압 왕과 함께 살았다

( So he left them with the king of Moab, and they stayed with him as long as David was in the stronghold.)

 

22:5 그 때에 갓이라는 예언자가 다윗에게, 그 산성에 머물러 있지 말고 어서 유다 땅으로 들어가라고 재촉하였다 그래서 다윗은 그 곳을 떠나서, 헤렛 숲으로 들어갔다

( But the prophet Gad said to David, "Do not stay in the stronghold. Go into the land of Judah." So David left and went to the forest of Hereth.)

 

22:6 하루는 사울이 기브아 산등성이의 에셀 나무 아래에서 창을 들고 앉아 있었다 그의 신하들은 모두 그의 곁에 둘러 서 있었다 거기에서 사울은 다윗이 부하들을 거느리고 나타났다는 말을 들었다

( Now Saul heard that David and his men had been discovered. And Saul, spear in hand, was seated under the tamarisk tree on the hill at Gibeah, with all his officials standing around him.)

 

22:7 사울이 둘러 서 있는 신하들에게 호통을 쳤다 "이 베냐민 사람들아, 똑똑히 들어라 이새의 아들이 너희 모두에게 밭과 포도원을 나누어 주고, 너희를 모두 천부장이나 백부장으로 삼을 줄 아느냐?

( Saul said to them, "Listen, men of Benjamin! Will the son of Jesse give all of you fields and vineyards? Will he make all of you commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds?)

 

22:8 그래서 너희가 모두 나를 뒤엎으려고 음모를 꾸몄더냐? 내 아들이 이새의 아들과 맹약하였을 때에도, 그것을 나에게 귀띔해 준 자가 하나도 없었다 또 내 아들이 오늘 나의 신하 하나를 부추겨서 나를 죽이려고 매복시켰는데도, 너희들 가운데는 나를 염려하여 그것을 나에게 미리 귀띔해 준 자가 하나도 없었다"

( Is that why you have all conspired against me? No one tells me when my son makes a covenant with the son of Jesse. None of you is concerned about me or tells me that my son has incited my servant to lie in wait for me, as he does today.")

 

22:9 바로 그 때에 사울의 신하들 가운데 끼여 있던 에돔 사람 도엑이 나서서 보고하였다 "제가 이새의 아들을 보았습니다 그가 놉으로 와서 아히둡의 아들 아히멜렉과 만날 때였습니다

( But Doeg the Edomite, who was standing with Saul's officials, said, "I saw the son of Jesse come to Ahimelech son of Ahitub at Nob.)

 

22:10 그 때에 아히멜렉이, 다윗이 해야 할 일을 주님께 여쭈어 보고 나서, 그에게 먹을 것도 주고, 블레셋 사람 골리앗의 칼도 주었습니다"

( Ahimelech inquired of the LORD for him; he also gave him provisions and the sword of Goliath the Philistine.")

 

22:11 그러자 왕은 아히둡의 아들 제사장 아히멜렉은 물론, 놉에 있는 그의 집안 제사장들을 모두 불러들였다 그리하여 그들이 모두 왕에게로 나아왔다

( Then the king sent for the priest Ahimelech son of Ahitub and his father's whole family, who were the priests at Nob, and they all came to the king.)

 

22:12 사울이 호통을 쳤다 "아히둡의 아들은 똑똑히 들어라!" 아히멜렉이 대답하였다 "임금님, 말씀하십시오!"

( Saul said, "Listen now, son of Ahitub." "Yes, my lord," he answered.)

 

22:13 사울이 그를 꾸짖었다 "네가 왜 이새의 아들과 함께 공모하여 나에게 맞서려고 하였느냐? 네가 왜 그에게 빵과 칼을 주고, 왜 그가 하여야 할 일을 하나님께 물어서, 그가 오늘날과 같이 일어나서 나를 죽이려고 매복하도록 하였느냐?"

( Saul said to him, "Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, giving him bread and a sword and inquiring of God for him, so that he has rebelled against me and lies in wait for me, as he does today?")

 

22:14 그러자 아히멜렉이 왕에게 대답하였다 "임금님의 모든 신하들 가운데서 다윗만큼 믿을 만한 사람이 누구입니까? 더구나 그는 임금님의 사위인 동시에 경호실장이며, 이 궁중에서 매우 존귀한 사람이 아닙니까?

( Ahimelech answered the king, "Who of all your servants is as loyal as David, the king's son-in-law, captain of your bodyguard and highly respected in your household?)

 

22:15 그가 할 일을 하나님께 여쭙는 일을, 제가 오늘에 와서 처음으로 시작한 것입니까? 전혀 그렇지 않습니다 임금님은 이 종이나 이 종의 온 집안에 아무 허물도 돌리지 말아 주십시오 이 종은 이런 일은 전혀 아는 바가 없습니다"

( Was that day the first time I inquired of God for him? Of course not! Let not the king accuse your servant or any of his father's family, for your servant knows nothing at all about this whole affair.")

 

22:16 그런데도 왕은 이런 선언을 내렸다 "아히멜렉은 들어라 너는 어쨌든 너의 온 집안과 함께 죽어 마땅하다"

( But the king said, "You will surely die, Ahimelech, you and your father's whole family.")

 

22:17 그리고 왕은 자기 곁에 둘러 서 있던 호위병들에게 명령하였다 "너희는 당장 달려들어 주님의 제사장들을 죽여라 그들은 다윗과 손을 잡고 공모하였으며, 다윗이 도망하는 줄 알았으면서도 나에게 귀띔해 주지 않았기 때문이다" 그러나 왕의 신하들은 손을 들어 주님의 제사장들을 살해하기를 꺼렸다

( Then the king ordered the guards at his side: "Turn and kill the priests of the LORD, because they too have sided with David. They knew he was fleeing, yet they did not tell me." But the king's officials were not willing to raise a hand to strike the priests of the LORD.)

 

22:18 그러자 왕이 도엑에게 명하였다 "네가 달려들어서 저 제사장들을 죽여라" 그러자 에돔 사람 도엑이 서슴없이 달려들어서 그 제사장들을 죽였는데, 그가 그 날 죽인 사람은 모시 에봇을 입은 제사장만도 여든다섯 명이나 되었다

( The king then ordered Doeg, "You turn and strike down the priests." So Doeg the Edomite turned and struck them down. That day he killed eighty-five men who wore the linen ephod.)

 

22:19 사울은 제사장들이 살던 성읍 놉에까지 가서, 주민을 다 칼로 쳐죽였다 그는 남자와 여자, 어린이와 젖먹이, 소 떼나 나귀 떼나 양 떼를 가리지 않고, 모두 칼로 쳐서 죽였다

( He also put to the sword Nob, the town of the priests, with its men and women, its children and infants, and its cattle, donkeys and sheep.)

 

22:20 아히둡의 손자이며 아히멜렉의 아들인 아비아달은, 거기서 피하여 다윗에게로 도망하였다

( But Abiathar, a son of Ahimelech son of Ahitub, escaped and fled to join David.)

 

22:21 아비아달은 다윗에게, 사울이 주님의 제사장들을 몰살시켰다는 소식을 전하였다

( He told David that Saul had killed the priests of the LORD.)

 

22:22 다윗이 아비아달에게 말하였다 "그 날 내가 에돔 사람 도엑을 거기에서 보고서, 그가 틀림없이 사울에게 고자질하겠다는 것을 그 때에 이미 짐작하였소 제사장의 집안이 몰살당한 것은, 바로 내가 책임져야 하오

( Then David said to Abiathar: "That day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, I knew he would be sure to tell Saul. I am responsible for the death of your father's whole family.)

 

22:23 이제 두려워하지 말고, 나와 함께 지냅시다 이제 나의 목숨을 노리는 사람이 바로 당신의 목숨을 노리는 사람이기도 하니, 나와 함께 있으면 안전할 것이오"

( Stay with me; don't be afraid; the man who is seeking your life is seeking mine also. You will be safe with me.")

사무엘상 23장

 

다윗이 그일라 주민을 구출하다

 

23:1 다윗은, 블레셋 사람이 그일라를 치고, 타작한 곡식을 마구 약탈하여 간다는 소식을 들었다

( When David was told, "Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are looting the threshing floors,")

 

23:2 그래서 다윗은 주님께 여쭈었다 "내가 출전하여 이 블레셋 사람을 쳐도 되겠습니까?" 그러자 주님께서 다윗에게 허락하셨다 "그렇게 하여라 어서 출전하여 블레셋 족속을 치고, 그일라를 구해 주도록 하여라"

( he inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go and attack these Philistines?" The LORD answered him, "Go, attack the Philistines and save Keilah.")

 

23:3 그러나 다윗의 부하들이 반대하고 나섰다 "우리는 여기 유다에서도 이미 가슴을 졸이며 살고 있는데, 우리가 그일라로 출전하여 블레셋 병력과 마주친다면, 얼마나 더 위험하겠습니까?"

( But David's men said to him, "Here in Judah we are afraid. How much more, then, if we go to Keilah against the Philistine forces!")

 

23:4 다윗이 주님께 다시 여쭈어 보았다 그런데도 주님께서는 똑같이 대답하셨다 "너는 어서 그일라로 가거라 내가 블레셋 족속을 너의 손에 넘겨 주겠다"

( Once again David inquired of the LORD, and the LORD answered him, "Go down to Keilah, for I am going to give the Philistines into your hand.")

 

23:5 그래서 다윗이 그일라로 출전하여 블레셋 사람과 싸웠다 결국 그들을 쳐서 크게 무찔렀으며, 블레셋 사람의 집짐승들을 전리품으로 몰아 왔다 다윗은 이렇게 그일라 주민을 구원해 주었다

( So David and his men went to Keilah, fought the Philistines and carried off their livestock. He inflicted heavy losses on the Philistines and saved the people of Keilah.)

 

23:6 （아히멜렉의 아들 아비아달은 그일라에 있는 다윗에게로 도망할 때에 에봇을 가지고 갔었다）

( (Now Abiathar son of Ahimelech had brought the ephod down with him when he fled to David at Keilah.))

 

23:7 한편 다윗이 그일라에 들어왔다는 소식이 사울에게 전해지니, 사울이 외쳤다 "이제는 하나님이 그 자를 나의 손에 넘겨 주셨다 성문과 빗장이 있는 성읍으로 들어갔으니, 독 안에 든 쥐다"

( Saul was told that David had gone to Keilah, and he said, "God has handed him over to me, for David has imprisoned himself by entering a town with gates and bars.")

 

23:8 그래서 사울은 군대를 소집하여, 그일라로 내려가서 다윗과 그의 부하들을 포위하게 하였다

( And Saul called up all his forces for battle, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men.)

 

23:9 다윗은 사울이 자기를 해치려고 음모를 꾸미고 있다는 사실을 알고서, 제사장 아비아달에게 에봇을 가져오게 하였다

( When David learned that Saul was plotting against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring the ephod.")

 

23:10 다윗이 하나님께 아뢰었다 "주 이스라엘의 하나님, 사울이 나를 잡으려고 그일라로 와서 이 성읍을 멸망시키기로 결심하였다는 소식을, 이 종이 확실하게 들었습니다

( David said, "O LORD, God of Israel, your servant has heard definitely that Saul plans to come to Keilah and destroy the town on account of me.)

 

23:11 그일라 주민이 나를 사울의 손에 넘겨 주겠습니까? 이 종이 들은 소문 그대로 사울이 내려오겠습니까? 주 이스라엘의 하나님, 이 종에게 대답하여 주십시오" 주님께서 대답하셨다 "그가 내려올 것이다"

( Will the citizens of Keilah surrender me to him? Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? O LORD, God of Israel, tell your servant." And the LORD said, "He will.")

 

23:12 다윗이 다시 한 번 여쭈었다 "그일라 주민이 정말로 나를 나의 부하들과 함께 사울의 손에 넘겨 주겠습니까?" 주님께서 대답하셨다 "넘겨 줄 것이다"

( Again David asked, "Will the citizens of Keilah surrender me and my men to Saul?" And the LORD said, "They will.")

 

23:13 그래서 다윗은 육백 명쯤 되는 부하를 거느리고, 그일라에서 벗어나 떠돌아다녔다 다윗이 그일라에서 빠져 나갔다는 소식이 사울에게 알려지니, 사울은 출동하려다가 그만두었다

( So David and his men, about six hundred in number, left Keilah and kept moving from place to place. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he did not go there.)

 

다윗이 산성으로 피하다

 

23:14 그리하여 다윗은 광야의 산성을 찾아다니며 숨어서 살았다 그는 바로 십 광야의 산간지역에서 살았다 그 동안 사울은 날마다 다윗을 찾았지만, 하나님이 다윗을 사울의 손에 넘겨 주지 않으셨다

( David stayed in the desert strongholds and in the hills of the Desert of Ziph. Day after day Saul searched for him, but God did not give David into his hands.)

 

23:15 그래서 사울이 다윗의 목숨을 노리고 출동할 때마다, 다윗이 그것을 다 알고서 피하였다 다윗이 십 광야의 호레스에 있을 때에,

( While David was at Horesh in the Desert of Ziph, he learned that Saul had come out to take his life.)

 

23:16 사울의 아들 요나단이 호레스로 다윗을 찾아와서, 하나님을 굳게 의지하도록 격려하였다

( And Saul's son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength in God.)

 

23:17 그는 다윗에게 말하였다 "전혀 두려워하지 말게 자네를 해치려는 나의 아버지 사울의 세력이 자네에게 미치지 못할 걸세 자네는 반드시 이스라엘의 왕이 될 걸세 나는 자네의 버금가는 자리에 앉고 싶네 이것은 나의 아버지 사울도 아시는 일일세"

( "Don't be afraid," he said. "My father Saul will not lay a hand on you. You will be king over Israel, and I will be second to you. Even my father Saul knows this.")

 

23:18 이리하여 이 두 사람은 다시 주님 앞에서 우정의 언약을 맺었다 그리고 다윗은 계속 호레스에 머물렀으나, 요나단은 다시 집으로 돌아갔다

( The two of them made a covenant before the LORD. Then Jonathan went home, but David remained at Horesh.)

 

23:19 십 사람 몇이 기브아로 사울을 찾아 올라가서 밀고하였다 "다윗은 분명히, 우리가 있는 호레스 산성 속에 숨어 있습니다 바로 여시몬 남쪽에 있는 하길라 산 속에 숨어 있습니다

( The Ziphites went up to Saul at Gibeah and said, "Is not David hiding among us in the strongholds at Horesh, on the hill of Hakilah, south of Jeshimon?)

 

23:20 임금님이 지금 당장 내려가기를 원하신다면, 그렇게 하시기 바랍니다 그를 잡아서 임금님의 손에 넘기는 일은, 저희가 맡아서 하겠습니다"

( Now, O king, come down whenever it pleases you to do so, and we will be responsible for handing him over to the king.")

 

23:21 사울이 말하였다 "당신들이 나를 생각하여 그토록 정성을 보였으니, 주님이 주시는 복을 받기를 바라오

( Saul replied, "The LORD bless you for your concern for me.)

 

23:22 당신들은 가서 빈틈없이 준비하시오 그 자가 도망다니는 곳이 어디이며, 누가 어디서 그 자를 보았는지, 자세히 알아보시오 내가 듣는 바로는, 그는 매우 교활하오

( Go and make further preparation. Find out where David usually goes and who has seen him there. They tell me he is very crafty.)

 

23:23 당신들은 그가 숨을 만한 모든 은신처를 자세히 살펴본 다음에, 틀림없는 정보를 가지고 나를 찾아오시오 그러면 내가 당신들과 함께 가겠소 그가 이 나라 안에 있기만 하면, 내가 유다의 마을들을 남김없이 다 뒤져서라도 그를 찾아내고야 말겠소"

( Find out about all the hiding places he uses and come back to me with definite information. Then I will go with you; if he is in the area, I will track him down among all the clans of Judah.")

 

23:24 이리하여 그들이 일어나 사울보다 먼저 십 광야로 떠나갔다 이 때에 다윗과 그의 부하들은, 여시몬 남쪽의 아라바에 있는 마온 광야에 있었다

( So they set out and went to Ziph ahead of Saul. Now David and his men were in the Desert of Maon, in the Arabah south of Jeshimon.)

 

23:25 사울도 부하들을 거느리고 다윗을 찾아 나섰다 누가 이 사실을 다윗에게 알려 주니, 그가 마온 광야에 있는 바위로 내려갔다 사울이 이 소식을 듣고, 곧 마온 광야로 가서 다윗을 추격하였다

( Saul and his men began the search, and when David was told about it, he went down to the rock and stayed in the Desert of Maon. When Saul heard this, he went into the Desert of Maon in pursuit of David.)

 

23:26 이리하여 사울은 산 이쪽에서 쫓아가고, 다윗과 그의 부하들은 산 저쪽에서 도망하게 되었다 이렇게 다윗은 사울을 피하여 급히 도망하고, 사울과 그의 부하들은 다윗과 그의 부하들을 잡으려고 포위를 하는데,

( Saul was going along one side of the mountain, and David and his men were on the other side, hurrying to get away from Saul. As Saul and his forces were closing in on David and his men to capture them,)

 

23:27 갑자기 전령 한 사람이 사울에게 와서, 블레셋 족속이 쳐들어왔으니, 어서 돌아가야 한다고 보고하였다

( a messenger came to Saul, saying, "Come quickly! The Philistines are raiding the land.")

 

23:28 사울은 다윗을 추격하다 말고 돌아가서, 블레셋 족속을 맞아 싸우러 나갔다 그리하여 그 곳 이름을 셀라하마느곳이라고 부른다

( Then Saul broke off his pursuit of David and went to meet the Philistines. That is why they call this place Sela Hammahlekoth.)

 

다윗이 사울을 살려 주다

 

23:29 다윗은 엔게디 산성에 올라가 거기에 머물러 있었다

( And David went up from there and lived in the strongholds of En Gedi.)
