사무엘상 24장

 

24:1 블레셋 사람과 싸우고 돌아온 사울은, 다윗이 엔게디 광야에 있다는 소식을 듣고,

( After Saul returned from pursuing the Philistines, he was told, "David is in the Desert of En Gedi.")

 

24:2 온 이스라엘에서 삼천 명을 뽑아 거느리고, 다윗과 그의 부하들을 찾으러 '들염소 바위' 쪽으로 갔다

( So Saul took three thousand chosen men from all Israel and set out to look for David and his men near the Crags of the Wild Goats.)

 

24:3 사울이 길 옆에 양 우리가 많은 곳에 이르렀는데, 그 곳에 굴이 하나 있었다 사울이 뒤를 보려고 그리로 들어갔는데, 그 굴의 안쪽 깊은 곳에 다윗과 그의 부하들이 숨어 있었다

( He came to the sheep pens along the way; a cave was there, and Saul went in to relieve himself. David and his men were far back in the cave.)

 

24:4 다윗의 부하들이 그에게 말하였다 "드디어 주님께서 대장님에게 약속하신 바로 그 날이 왔습니다 '내가 너의 원수를 너의 손에 넘겨 줄 것이니, 네가 마음대로 그를 처치하여라' 하신 바로 그 날이 되었습니다" 다윗이 일어나서 사울의 겉옷자락을 몰래 잘랐다

( The men said, "This is the day the LORD spoke of when he said to you, 'I will give your enemy into your hands for you to deal with as you wish.'" Then David crept up unnoticed and cut off a corner of Saul's robe.)

 

24:5 다윗은 자기가 사울의 겉옷자락만을 자른 것 뿐인데도 곧 양심에 가책을 받게 되었다

( Afterward, David was conscience-stricken for having cut off a corner of his robe.)

 

24:6 그래서 다윗은 자기 부하들에게 타일렀다 "내가 감히 손을 들어, 주님께서 기름부어 세우신 우리의 임금님을 치겠느냐? 주님께서 내가 그런 일을 하지 못하도록 나를 막아 주시기를 바란다 왕은 바로 주님께서 기름부어 세우신 분이기 때문이다"

( He said to his men, "The LORD forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the LORD'S anointed, or lift my hand against him; for he is the anointed of the LORD.")

 

24:7 다윗은 이런 말로 자기의 부하들을 타이르고, 그들이 일어나 사울을 치지 못하게 하였다 마침내 사울이 일어나서 굴 속에서 나가 길을 걸어갔다

( With these words David rebuked his men and did not allow them to attack Saul. And Saul left the cave and went his way.)

 

24:8 다윗도 일어나 굴 속에서 밖으로 나가서, 사울의 뒤에다 대고 외쳤다 "임금님, 임금님!" 사울이 뒤를 돌아다보자, 다윗이 땅에 엎드려 절을 하였다

( Then David went out of the cave and called out to Saul, "My lord the king!" When Saul looked behind him, David bowed down and prostrated himself with his face to the ground.)

 

24:9 그런 다음에, 다윗이 사울에게 말하였다 "임금님은 어찌하여, 다윗이 왕을 해치려 한다고 주장하는 사람들의 말만 들으십니까?

( He said to Saul, "Why do you listen when men say, 'David is bent on harming you'?)

 

24:10 보십시오, 주님께서 오늘 저 굴 속에서 임금님을 나의 손에 넘겨 주셨다는 사실을, 이제 여기에서 직접 확인하실 수 있습니다 임금님을 살려 보내지 말라고 말하는 사람도 있었지만, 나는 임금님을 아꼈습니다 절대로, 손을 들어 우리의 임금님을 치지 않겠다고 다짐하였습니다 임금님은 바로 주님께서 기름부어 세우신 분이기 때문입니다!

( This day you have seen with your own eyes how the LORD delivered you into my hands in the cave. Some urged me to kill you, but I spared you; I said, 'I will not lift my hand against my master, because he is the LORD'S anointed.')

 

24:11 아버지, 지금 내가 들고 있는 임금님의 겉옷자락을 보십시오 내가 이 겉옷자락만 자르고, 임금님께 손을 대지 않았습니다 이것을 보시면, 나의 손에 악이나 죄가 없으며, 임금님께 반역하거나 잘못한 일이 없다는 것도 아실 것입니다 그런데도 임금님은 나를 죽이려고, 찾아다니십니다

( See, my father, look at this piece of your robe in my hand! I cut off the corner of your robe but did not kill you. Now understand and recognize that I am not guilty of wrongdoing or rebellion. I have not wronged you, but you are hunting me down to take my life.)

 

24:12 이제는 주님께서, 나와 임금님 사이에서 재판관이 되시고, 나의 억울한 것을 주님께서 직접 풀어 주시기 바라겠습니다 나의 손으로는 직접 임금님께 해를 끼치지 않겠습니다

( May the LORD judge between you and me. And may the LORD avenge the wrongs you have done to me, but my hand will not touch you.)

 

24:13 옛날 속담에 '악인에게서 악이 나온다' 하였으니, 나의 손으로는 임금님을 해치지 않겠습니다

( As the old saying goes, 'From evildoers come evil deeds,' so my hand will not touch you.)

 

24:14 이스라엘의 임금님은 누구를 잡으려고 이렇게 나오셨습니까? 임금님이 누구를 잡으려고 쫓아다니십니까? 한 마리 죽은 개를 쫓아다니십니까? 한 마리 벼룩을 쫓아다니십니까?

( "Against whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom are you pursuing? A dead dog? A flea?)

 

24:15 그러므로 주님께서 재판관이 되셔서, 나와 임금님 사이를 판결하여 주시기를 빌겠습니다 주님께서 굽어보시고 나의 억울함을 판결하여 주시며, 나를 임금님의 손에서 건져 주시기를 빌겠습니다"

( May the LORD be our judge and decide between us. May he consider my cause and uphold it; may he vindicate me by delivering me from your hand.")

 

24:16 다윗이 말을 끝마치자, 사울은 "나의 아들 다윗아, 이것이 정말 너의 목소리냐?" 하고 말하면서, 목놓아 울었다

( When David finished saying this, Saul asked, "Is that your voice, David my son?" And he wept aloud.)

 

24:17 사울이 다윗에게 말하였다 "나는 너를 괴롭혔는데, 너는 내게 이렇게 잘 해주었으니, 네가 나보다 의로운 사람이다

( "You are more righteous than I," he said. "You have treated me well, but I have treated you badly.)

 

24:18 주님께서 나를 네 손에 넘겨 주셨으나, 너는 나를 죽이지 않았다 이것 하나만으로도 오늘 너는, 네가 나를 얼마나 끔찍히 생각하는지를 내게 보여 주었다

( You have just now told me of the good you did to me; the LORD delivered me into your hands, but you did not kill me.)

 

24:19 도대체 누가 자기의 원수를 붙잡고서도 무사히 제 길을 가도록 놓아 보내겠느냐? 네가 오늘 내게 이렇게 잘 해주었으니, 주님께서 너에게 선으로 갚아 주시기 바란다

( When a man finds his enemy, does he let him get away unharmed? May the LORD reward you well for the way you treated me today.)

 

24:20 나도 분명히 안다 너는 틀림없이 왕이 될 것이고, 이스라엘 나라가 네 손에서 굳게 설 것이다

( I know that you will surely be king and that the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hands.)

 

24:21 그러므로 너는 이제 주님의 이름으로 내게 맹세하여라 너는 내 자손을 멸절시키지도 않고, 내 이름을 내 아버지의 집안에서 지워 버리지도 않겠다고, 내게 맹세하여라"

( Now swear to me by the LORD that you will not cut off my descendants or wipe out my name from my father's family.")

 

24:22 다윗이 사울에게 그대로 맹세하였다 사울은 자기의 왕궁으로 돌아갔고, 다윗과 그의 부하들은 산성으로 올라갔다

( So David gave his oath to Saul. Then Saul returned home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.)

사무엘의 죽음

 

25:1 사무엘이 죽었다 온 이스라엘 백성이 모여 그의 죽음을 슬퍼하며 울고, 그의 고향 라마에 그를 장사하였다 그 뒤에 다윗은 바란 광야로 내려갔다

( Now Samuel died, and all Israel assembled and mourned for him; and they buried him at his home in Ramah. Then David moved down into the Desert of Maon.)

 

25:2 그 무렵에 마온에 어떤 사람이 살았는데, 갈멜에 목장을 가지고 있었고, 아주 잘 사는 사람이었다 그가 가진 가축은 양 떼가 삼천 마리, 염소 떼가 천 마리였다 그는 마침 갈멜에 와서 양털을 깎고 있었다

( A certain man in Maon, who had property there at Carmel, was very wealthy. He had a thousand goats and three thousand sheep, which he was shearing in Carmel.)

 

25:3 그 사람의 이름은 나발이며, 그 아내의 이름은 아비가일이었다 이 여인은 이해심도 많고 용모도 아름다웠으나, 그 남편은 고집이 세고 행실이 포악하였다 그는 갈렙 족속이었다

( His name was Nabal and his wife's name was Abigail. She was an intelligent and beautiful woman, but her husband, a Calebite, was surly and mean in his dealings.)

 

25:4 그런데 나발이 양털을 깎는다는 소식을 다윗이 광야에서 듣고,

( While David was in the desert, he heard that Nabal was shearing sheep.)

 

25:5 자기 부하들 가운데서 젊은이 열 사람에게 임무를 주어서 그에게 보냈다 "너희는 갈멜로 올라가 나발을 찾아가서, 나의 이름으로 안부를 전하여라

( So he sent ten young men and said to them, "Go up to Nabal at Carmel and greet him in my name.)

 

25:6 너희는 그에게 이렇게 나의 말을 전하여라 '만수무강을 빕니다 어른도 평안하시고, 집안이 모두 평안하시기를 빕니다 어른의 모든 소유도 번창하기를 빕니다

( Say to him: 'Long life to you! Good health to you and your household! And good health to all that is yours!)

 

25:7 지금 일꾼들을 데리고 양털을 깎고 계시다는 소식을 들었습니다 어른의 목자들이 우리와 함께 있었는데, 우리는 그들을 괴롭힌 일도 없으며, 그들이 갈멜에 있는 동안에 양 한 마리도 잃어버린 것이 없었습니다

( "'Now I hear that it is sheep-shearing time. When your shepherds were with us, we did not mistreat them, and the whole time they were at Carmel nothing of theirs was missing.)

 

25:8 일꾼들에게 물어 보시면, 그들이 사실대로 대답할 것입니다 그리고 우리들이, 잔치를 벌이는 좋은 날에 어른을 찾아왔으니, 제가 보낸 젊은이들을 너그럽게 보시고, 부디 어른의 종들이나 다름이 없는 저의 부하들과, 아들이나 다름이 없는 이 다윗을 생각하셔서, 먹거리를 좀 들려 보내 주십시오'"

( Ask your own servants and they will tell you. Therefore be favorable toward my young men, since we come at a festive time. Please give your servants and your son David whatever you can find for them.'")

 

25:9 다윗의 젊은이들이 도착하여, 다윗의 이름으로 나발에게 이 모든 말을 그대로 전하고, 조용히 기다렸다

( When David's men arrived, they gave Nabal this message in David's name. Then they waited.)

 

25:10 드디어 나발이 다윗의 젊은이들에게 대답하였다 "도대체 다윗이란 자가 누구며, 이새의 아들이 누구냐? 요즈음은 종들이 모두 저마다 주인에게서 뛰쳐나가는 세상이 되었다

( Nabal answered David's servants, "Who is this David? Who is this son of Jesse? Many servants are breaking away from their masters these days.)

 

25:11 그런데 내가 어찌, 빵이나 물이나, 양털 깎는 일꾼들에게 주려고 잡은 짐승의 고기를 가져다가, 어디서 왔는지도 모르는 자들에게 주겠느냐?"

( Why should I take my bread and water, and the meat I have slaughtered for my shearers, and give it to men coming from who knows where?")

 

25:12 다윗의 젊은이들이, 갔던 길로 돌아서서 다윗에게로 돌아와, 그 모든 말을 그대로 전하였다

( David's men turned around and went back. When they arrived, they reported every word.)

 

25:13 다윗이 자기의 부하들에게 명령하였다 "모두 허리에 칼을 차거라!" 그들이 저마다 허리에 칼을 차니, 다윗도 허리에 자기의 칼을 찼다 사백 명쯤 되는 사람들이 다윗을 따라 쳐올라가고, 이백 명은 남아서 물건을 지켰다

( David said to his men, "Put on your swords!" So they put on their swords, and David put on his. About four hundred men went up with David, while two hundred stayed with the supplies.)

 

25:14 그러는 사이에 나발의 일꾼들 가운데서 한 사람이 그의 아내 아비가일에게 가서 말하였다 "실은, 다윗이 광야에서 부하들을 보내어 주인께 문안을 드렸는데, 주인께서 그들에게 호통만 쳐서 보냈습니다

( One of the servants told Nabal's wife Abigail: "David sent messengers from the desert to give our master his greetings, but he hurled insults at them.)

 

25:15 그러나 그들은 우리에게 매우 잘 하여 준 사람들입니다 우리가 들에서 양을 칠 때에 그들과 함께 지낸 일이 있었는데, 그 동안 내내 그들이 우리를 괴롭힌 일도 없고, 양 떼를 훔쳐간 일도 없었습니다

( Yet these men were very good to us. They did not mistreat us, and the whole time we were out in the fields near them nothing was missing.)

 

25:16 오히려 우리가 그들과 함께 있으면서 양을 칠 동안에는, 그들이 밤이나 낮이나 우리를 성벽과 같이 잘 보살펴 주었습니다

( Night and day they were a wall around us all the time we were herding our sheep near them.)

 

25:17 그러므로 이제 마님께서 무엇을 어떻게 하셔야 할지, 어서 생각하여 보시기 바랍니다 다윗의 부하가 틀림없이 주인 어른께 앙갚음을 할 텐데, 주인 어른의 성격이 불 같으시니, 말도 붙일 수 없습니다"

( Now think it over and see what you can do, because disaster is hanging over our master and his whole household. He is such a wicked man that no one can talk to him.")

 

25:18 아비가일이 서둘러 빵 이백 덩이와 포도주 두 가죽부대와 이미 요리하여 놓은 양 다섯 마리와 볶은 곡식 다섯 세아와 건포도 뭉치 백 개와 무화과 뭉치 이백 개를 가져다가, 모두 나귀 여러 마리에 싣고,

( Abigail lost no time. She took two hundred loaves of bread, two skins of wine, five dressed sheep, five seahs of roasted grain, a hundred cakes of raisins and two hundred cakes of pressed figs, and loaded them on donkeys.)

 

25:19 자기의 일꾼들에게 말하였다 "나는 뒤따라 갈 터이니, 너희가 앞장 서라" 아비가일은 이 일을 자기의 남편 나발에게는 전혀 알리지 않았다

( Then she told her servants, "Go on ahead; I'll follow you." But she did not tell her husband Nabal.)

 

25:20 벌써 다윗이 부하들을 거느리고 그 여인의 맞은편에서 내려오고 있었으므로, 나귀를 타고 산굽이를 돌아 내려가는 아비가일이 그들과 마주쳤다

( As she came riding her donkey into a mountain ravine, there were David and his men descending toward her, and she met them.)

 

25:21 다윗은 단단히 벼르고 있었다 "내가 저 광야에서 그에게 속한 것은 무엇이든지 지켜 주어, 그의 모든 재산 가운데서 아무것도 잃어버리지 않도록 하였으나, 그것이 모두 헛일이었다 그는 나에게 선을 악으로 갚았다

( David had just said, "It's been useless--all my watching over this fellow's property in the desert so that nothing of his was missing. He has paid me back evil for good.)

 

25:22 내가 내일 아침까지, 그에게 속한 모든 사람들 가운데서, 남자들을 하나라도 남겨 둔다면, 나 다윗은 하나님께 무슨 벌이라도 받겠다"

( May God deal with David, be it ever so severely, if by morning I leave alive one male of all who belong to him!")

 

25:23 아비가일이 다윗을 보고 급히 나귀에서 내려서, 다윗 앞에 엎드려, 얼굴을 땅에 대고 절을 하였다

( When Abigail saw David, she quickly got off her donkey and bowed down before David with her face to the ground.)

 

25:24 그런 다음에 아비가일이 다윗의 발 앞에 엎드려 애원하였다 "죄는 바로 나에게 있습니다 이 종이 말씀드리는 것을 허락해 주시고, 이 종의 말에 귀를 기울여 주십시오

( She fell at his feet and said: "My lord, let the blame be on me alone. Please let your servant speak to you; hear what your servant has to say.)

 

25:25 장군께서는 나의 몹쓸 남편 나발에게 조금도 마음을 쓰지 마시기 바랍니다 그 사람은 정말 이름 그대로, 못된 사람입니다 이름도 나발인데다, 하는 일도 어리석습니다 그런데다가 장군께서 보내신 젊은이들이 왔을 때에는, 내가 거기에 있지 않아서, 그들을 만나지도 못하였습니다

( May my lord pay no attention to that wicked man Nabal. He is just like his name--his name is Fool, and folly goes with him. But as for me, your servant, I did not see the men my master sent.)

 

25:26 장군께서 사람을 죽이시거나 몸소 원수를 갚지 못하도록 막아 주신 분은 주님이십니다 주님도 살아 계시고, 장군께서도 살아 계십니다 장군님의 원수들과 장군께 해를 끼치려고 하는 자들이 모두 나발과 같이 되기를 바랍니다

( "Now since the LORD has kept you, my master, from bloodshed and from avenging yourself with your own hands, as surely as the LORD lives and as you live, may your enemies and all who intend to harm my master be like Nabal.)

 

25:27 여기에 가져온 이 선물은 장군님을 따르는 젊은이들에게 나누어 주시라고, 내가 가져온 것입니다

( And let this gift, which your servant has brought to my master, be given to the men who follow you.)

 

25:28 이 종의 허물을 용서해 주시기 바랍니다 장군께서는 언제나 주님의 전쟁만을 하셨으니, 주님께서 틀림없이 장군님의 집안을 영구히 세워 주시고, 장군께서 사시는 동안, 평생토록 아무런 재난도 일어나지 않도록 도와 주실 것입니다

( Please forgive your servant's offense, for the LORD will certainly make a lasting dynasty for my master, because he fights the LORD'S battles. Let no wrongdoing be found in you as long as you live.)

 

25:29 그러므로 어느 누가 일어나서 장군님을 죽이려고 쫓아다니는 일이 있더라도, 장군님의 생명은 장군께서 섬기시는 주 하나님이 생명 보자기에 싸서 보존하실 것이지만, 장군님을 거역하는 원수들의 생명은, 주님께서, 돌팔매로 던지듯이 팽개쳐 버리실 것입니다

( Even though someone is pursuing you to take your life, the life of my master will be bound securely in the bundle of the living by the LORD your God. But the lives of your enemies he will hurl away as from the pocket of a sling.)

 

25:30 이제 곧 주님께서 장군께 약속하신 대로, 온갖 좋은 일을 모두 베푸셔서, 장군님을 이스라엘의 영도자로 세워 주실 터인데,

( When the LORD has done for my master every good thing he promised concerning him and has appointed him leader over Israel,)

 

25:31 지금 공연히 사람을 죽이신다든지, 몸소 원수를 갚으신다든지 하여, 왕이 되실 때에 후회하시거나 마음에 걸리는 일이 없도록 하시기 바랍니다 주님께서 그처럼 좋은 일을 장군께 베풀어 주시는 날, 이 종을 기억해 주시기 바랍니다"

( my master will not have on his conscience the staggering burden of needless bloodshed or of having avenged himself. And when the LORD has brought my master success, remember your servant.")

 

25:32 다윗이 아비가일에게 말하였다 "주 이스라엘의 하나님이 오늘 그대를 보내어 이렇게 만나게 하여 주셨으니, 주님께 찬양을 드리오

( David said to Abigail, "Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, who has sent you today to meet me.)

 

25:33 내가 오늘 사람을 죽이거나 나의 손으로 직접 원수를 갚지 않도록, 그대가 나를 지켜 주었으니, 슬기롭게 권면하여 준 그대에게도 감사하오 하나님이 그대에게 복을 베풀어 주시기를 바라오

( May you be blessed for your good judgment and for keeping me from bloodshed this day and from avenging myself with my own hands.)

 

25:34 그대에게 아무런 해도 입히지 못하도록 나를 막아 주신 주 이스라엘의 하나님이 확실히 살아 계심을 두고 분명하게 말하지만, 그대가 급히 와서 이렇게 나를 맞이하지 않았더라면, 나발의 집안에는 내일 아침이 밝을 때까지 남자는 하나도 살아 남지 못할 뻔하였소"

( Otherwise, as surely as the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, who has kept me from harming you, if you had not come quickly to meet me, not one male belonging to Nabal would have been left alive by daybreak.")

 

25:35 그리고 다윗은 그 여인이 자기에게 가져온 것들을 받고서, 이렇게 말하였다 "평안히 집으로 돌아가시오 내가 그대의 말대로 할 터이니, 걱정하지 마시오"

( Then David accepted from her hand what she had brought him and said, "Go home in peace. I have heard your words and granted your request.")

 

25:36 아비가일이 나발에게 돌아와 보니, 그는 자기 집에서 왕이나 차릴 만한 술잔치를 베풀고, 취할 대로 취하여서, 흥겨운 기분이 되어 있었다 그래서 아비가일은 다음날 아침이 밝을 때까지, 큰 일이든 작은 일이든, 나발에게 아무 말도 하지 않았다

( When Abigail went to Nabal, he was in the house holding a banquet like that of a king. He was in high spirits and very drunk. So she told him nothing until daybreak.)

 

25:37 아침이 되어 나발이 술에서 깨었을 때에, 그의 아내는 그 동안에 있었던 일을 모두 그에게 말하였다 그러자 그는 갑자기 심장이 멎고, 몸이 돌처럼 굳어졌다

( Then in the morning, when Nabal was sober, his wife told him all these things, and his heart failed him and he became like a stone.)

 

25:38 열흘쯤 지났을 때에, 주님께서 나발을 치시니, 그가 죽었다

( About ten days later, the LORD struck Nabal and he died.)

 

25:39 나발이 죽었다는 소문을 듣고, 다윗이 말하였다 "주님을 찬양하여라! 나발이 나를 모욕하였으나, 주님께서 그 원수를 갚아 주시고, 이 종이 직접 무슨 악을 행하지 않게 막아 주셨다 주님께서는 나발이 저지른 죄악을 나발의 머리로 돌려보내 주셨다" 다윗은 아비가일을 자기의 아내로 삼으려고, 그 여인에게 사람을 보내어 그 뜻을 전하였다

( When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, "Praise be to the LORD, who has upheld my cause against Nabal for treating me with contempt. He has kept his servant from doing wrong and has brought Nabal's wrongdoing down on his own head." Then David sent word to Abigail, asking her to become his wife.)

 

25:40 다윗의 종들이 갈멜로 아비가일을 찾아가서 그 뜻을 전하였다 "다윗 어른께서 댁을 모셔다가 아내로 삼으려고 우리를 보내셨습니다"

( His servants went to Carmel and said to Abigail, "David has sent us to you to take you to become his wife.")

 

25:41 아비가일이 일어나, 얼굴이 땅에 닿도록 절을 한 다음에 말하였다 "이 몸은 기꺼이 그분의 종이 되어, 그를 섬기는 종들의 발을 씻겠습니다"

( She bowed down with her face to the ground and said, "Here is your maidservant, ready to serve you and wash the feet of my master's servants.")

 

25:42 아비가일이 일어나서, 서둘러 나귀를 타고 길을 떠나니, 그 뒤로 그 여인의 몸종 다섯이 따라나섰다 아비가일은 이렇게 다윗의 시종들을 따라가서, 그의 아내가 되었다

( Abigail quickly got on a donkey and, attended by her five maids, went with David's messengers and became his wife.)

 

25:43 다윗은 이미 이스르엘 여인 아히노암을 아내로 맞이하였기 때문에, 이제는 두 사람이 다 그의 아내가 되었다

( David had also married Ahinoam of Jezreel, and they both were his wives.)

 

25:44 본래 다윗의 아내는 사울의 딸 미갈이었으나, 사울이 이미 다윗의 아내를 갈림 사람 라이스의 아들 발디에게 주었다

( But Saul had given his daughter Michal, David's wife, to Paltiel son of Laish, who was from Gallim.)

다윗이 또 사울을 살려 주다

 

26:1 십 광야의 주민이 기브아로 사울을 찾아와서 밀고하였다 "다윗은 여시몬 맞은쪽 하길라 산 속에 숨어 있는 것이 확실합니다"

( The Ziphites went to Saul at Gibeah and said, "Is not David hiding on the hill of Hakilah, which faces Jeshimon?")

 

26:2 그래서 사울이 일어나, 이스라엘에서 삼천 명을 골라 거느리고, 십 광야에 있는 다윗을 찾으러 직접 십 광야로 내려갔다

( So Saul went down to the Desert of Ziph, with his three thousand chosen men of Israel, to search there for David.)

 

26:3 사울은 여시몬 맞은쪽 하길라 산 속으로 들어가 길 가에 진을 쳤다 이 때에 다윗은 바로 그 광야에 있었기 때문에, 사울이 자기를 잡으려고 그 광야로 쫓아온 것을 알게 되었다

( Saul made his camp beside the road on the hill of Hakilah facing Jeshimon, but David stayed in the desert. When he saw that Saul had followed him there,)

 

26:4 다윗은 곧 정찰대원들을 파견하여, 사울이 와 있는 장소가 어디인가를 확인하게 한 다음에,

( he sent out scouts and learned that Saul had definitely arrived.)

 

26:5 사울이 진을 친 곳으로 가 보았다 다윗이 그 곳에 와 보니, 사울과 넬의 아들 아브넬 군사령관이 자고 있었는데, 사울은 진의 한가운데서 자고, 그의 둘레에는 군인들이 사방으로 진을 치고 있었다

( Then David set out and went to the place where Saul had camped. He saw where Saul and Abner son of Ner, the commander of the army, had lain down. Saul was lying inside the camp, with the army encamped around him.)

 

26:6 그래서 다윗이, 헷 사람 아히멜렉과 스루야의 아들 요압의 아우인 아비새에게, 누가 자기와 함께 사울의 진으로 내려가겠느냐고 물으니, 아비새가 나서서, 자기가 다윗과 함께 내려가겠다고 대답하였다

( David then asked Ahimelech the Hittite and Abishai son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, "Who will go down into the camp with me to Saul?" "I'll go with you," said Abishai.)

 

26:7 이리하여 다윗이 아비새를 데리고 밤에 군인들이 있는 곳으로 가 보니, 사울이 진의 한가운데서 누워 자고, 그의 머리맡에는 그의 창이 땅바닥에 꽂혀 있고, 아브넬과 군인들은 그의 둘레에 사방으로 누워 있었다

( So David and Abishai went to the army by night, and there was Saul, lying asleep inside the camp with his spear stuck in the ground near his head. Abner and the soldiers were lying around him.)

 

26:8 아비새가 다윗에게 자청하였다 "하나님이 오늘, 이 원수를 장군님의 손에 넘겨 주셨습니다 제가 그를 당장 창으로 찔러 땅바닥에 박아 놓겠습니다 두 번 찌를 것도 없이, 한 번이면 됩니다"

( Abishai said to David, "Today God has delivered your enemy into your hands. Now let me pin him to the ground with one thrust of my spear; I won't strike him twice.")

 

26:9 그러나 다윗은 아비새에게 타일렀다 "그를 죽여서는 안 된다 그 어느 누구든지, 주님께서 기름부어 세우신 자를 죽였다가는 벌을 면하지 못한다"

( But David said to Abishai, "Don't destroy him! Who can lay a hand on the LORD'S anointed and be guiltless?)

 

26:10 다윗이 말을 계속하였다 "주님께서 확실히 살아 계심을 두고 말하지만, 주님께서 사울을 치시든지, 죽을 날이 되어서 죽든지, 또는 전쟁에 나갔다가 죽든지 할 것이다

( As surely as the LORD lives," he said, "the LORD himself will strike him; either his time will come and he will die, or he will go into battle and perish.)

 

26:11 주님께서 기름부어 세우신 이를 내가 쳐서 죽이는 일은, 주님께서 금하시는 일이다 그러므로 이제 우리는 그의 머리맡에 있는 창과 물병만 가지고 가자"

( But the LORD forbid that I should lay a hand on the LORD'S anointed. Now get the spear and water jug that are near his head, and let's go.")

 

26:12 다윗이 사울의 머리맡에 있던 창과 물병을 들고 아비새와 함께 빠져 나왔으나, 보는 사람도 없고, 눈치채는 사람도 없고, 깨는 사람도 없었다 주님께서 그들을 깊이 잠들게 하셔서, 그들이 모두 곤하게 잠들어 있었기 때문이다

( So David took the spear and water jug near Saul's head, and they left. No one saw or knew about it, nor did anyone wake up. They were all sleeping, because the LORD had put them into a deep sleep.)

 

26:13 다윗이 맞은편으로 건너가 멀리 산꼭대기에 섰다 다윗과 사울 사이의 거리가 꽤 멀어졌다

( Then David crossed over to the other side and stood on top of the hill some distance away; there was a wide space between them.)

 

26:14 여기서 다윗이 사울의 부하들과 넬의 아들 아브넬에게 소리쳤다 "아브넬은 대답을 하여라!" 아브넬이 대답하였다 "네가 누구이기에 감히 소리를 쳐서 임금님을 깨우느냐?"

( He called out to the army and to Abner son of Ner, "Aren't you going to answer me, Abner?" Abner replied, "Who are you who calls to the king?")

 

26:15 다윗이 아브넬에게 호통을 쳤다 "너는 사내 대장부가 아니냐? 이스라엘 천지에서 너만한 대장부가 어디에 또 있느냐? 그런데 네가 어째서 너의 상전인 임금님을 잘 보호하여 드리지 않았느냐? 백성 가운데 한 사람이 너의 상전인 임금님을 범하려고 이미 들어갔었다

( David said, "You're a man, aren't you? And who is like you in Israel? Why didn't you guard your lord the king? Someone came to destroy your lord the king.)

 

26:16 너는 이번에 너의 책임을 다하지 못했다 주님께서 확실히 살아 계심을 두고 말하지만, 너희가 주님께서 기름부어 세우신 너희의 상전을 보호해 드리지 못했으니, 너희는 이제 죽어 마땅하다 그러므로 너는 이제 왕의 창이 어디로 갔으며, 왕의 머리맡에 있던 물병이 어디로 갔는지, 어서 찾아 보도록 하여라"

( What you have done is not good. As surely as the LORD lives, you and your men deserve to die, because you did not guard your master, the LORD'S anointed. Look around you. Where are the king's spear and water jug that were near his head?")

 

26:17 사울이 다윗의 목소리를 알아듣고 말하였다 "나의 아들 다윗아, 이것이 정말로 너의 목소리냐?" 다윗이 대답하였다 "나의 상전이신 임금님, 그러합니다"

( Saul recognized David's voice and said, "Is that your voice, David my son?" David replied, "Yes it is, my lord the king.")

 

26:18 그런 다음에, 다윗이 말하였다 "나의 상전이신 임금님은 어찌하여 이렇게 임금님의 종을 사냥하러 나오셨습니까? 내가 무슨 잘못을 저질렀습니까? 내 손으로 저지른 죄악이 무엇입니까?

( And he added, "Why is my lord pursuing his servant? What have I done, and what wrong am I guilty of?)

 

26:19 나의 상전이신 임금님은 이 종이 하는 말에 귀를 기울여 주시기 바랍니다 임금님을 충동하여 나를 치도록 시키신 분이 주님이시면, 나는 기꺼이 희생제물이 되겠습니다 그러나 임금님을 충동하여 나를 치도록 시킨 것이 사람이면, 그들이 주님에게서 저주를 받기를 바랍니다 주님께서 유산으로 주신 땅에서 내가 받을 몫을 받지 못하도록 하고, 나더러 멀리 떠나가서 다른 신들이나 섬기라고 하면서, 나를 쫓아낸 자들이 바로 그들이기 때문입니다

( Now let my lord the king listen to his servant's words. If the LORD has incited you against me, then may he accept an offering. If, however, men have done it, may they be cursed before the LORD! They have now driven me from my share in the LORD'S inheritance and have said, 'Go, serve other gods.')

 

26:20 그러니 이제, 주님으로부터 멀리 떨어진 이 이방 땅에서, 내가 살해당하지 않게 하여 주시기를 바랍니다 어찌하여 이스라엘의 임금님이, 사냥꾼이 산에서 메추라기를 사냥하듯이, 겨우 벼룩 한 마리 같은 나를 찾으러 이렇게 나서셨습니까?"

( Now do not let my blood fall to the ground far from the presence of the LORD. The king of Israel has come out to look for a flea--as one hunts a partridge in the mountains.")

 

26:21 사울이 대답하였다 "내가 잘못했다 나의 아들 다윗아, 돌아오너라 네가 오늘 나의 생명을 귀중하게 여겨 주었으니, 내가 다시는 너에게 해를 끼치지 않겠다 정말 내가 어리석은 일을 하여, 아주 큰 잘못을 저질렀다"

( Then Saul said, "I have sinned. Come back, David my son. Because you considered my life precious today, I will not try to harm you again. Surely I have acted like a fool and have erred greatly.")

 

26:22 다윗이 말하였다 "여기에 임금님의 창이 있습니다 젊은이 하나가 건너와서 가져가게 하십시오

( "Here is the king's spear," David answered. "Let one of your young men come over and get it.)

 

26:23 주님께서 각 사람에게 그 공의와 진실을 따라 갚아 주시기를 바랍니다 주님께서 오늘 임금님을 나의 손에 넘겨 주셨지만, 나는, 주님께서 기름부어 세우신 임금님께 손을 대지 않았습니다

( The LORD rewards every man for his righteousness and faithfulness. The LORD delivered you into my hands today, but I would not lay a hand on the LORD'S anointed.)

 

26:24 그러므로 내가 오늘 임금님의 생명을 귀중하게 여겼던 것과 같이, 주님께서도 나의 생명을 귀중하게 여기시고, 어떠한 궁지에서도 나를 건져 내어 주실 것입니다"

( As surely as I valued your life today, so may the LORD value my life and deliver me from all trouble.")

 

26:25 사울이 다윗에게 말하였다 "나의 아들 다윗아, 하나님이 너에게 복 주시기를 바란다 너는 참으로 일을 해낼 만한 사람이니, 매사에 형통하기를 바란다" 다윗은 자기의 길로 가고, 사울도 자기의 궁으로 돌아갔다

( Then Saul said to David, "May you be blessed, my son David; you will do great things and surely triumph." So David went on his way, and Saul returned home.)
