사무엘하 1장

 

사울이 죽었다는 소식을 다윗이 듣다

 

1:1 사울이 죽은 뒤에, 다윗이 아말렉을 치고, 시글락으로 돌아와서 이틀을 지냈다

( After the death of Saul, David returned from defeating the Amalekites and stayed in Ziklag two days.)

 

1:2 사흘째 되던 날, 한 젊은 사람이 사울의 진에서 왔다 그는 옷을 찢고, 머리에 흙을 뒤집어 써서, 애도의 표시를 하고 있었다 그가 다윗에게 와서, 땅에 엎드려서 절을 하니,

( On the third day a man arrived from Saul's camp, with his clothes torn and with dust on his head. When he came to David, he fell to the ground to pay him honor.)

 

1:3 다윗이 그에게 물었다 "너는 어디에서 왔느냐?" 그가 다윗에게 대답하였다 "저는 이스라엘 진에서 가까스로 살아서 빠져 나왔습니다"

( "Where have you come from?" David asked him. He answered, "I have escaped from the Israelite camp.")

 

1:4 다윗이 그에게 다시 물었다 "무슨 일이 일어났는지, 어서 나에게 알려라" 그가 대답하였다 "우리의 군인들이 싸움터에서 달아나기도 하였고, 또 그 군인들 가운데는 쓰러져 죽은 사람도 많습니다 사울 임금님과 요나단 왕자께서도 전사하셨습니다"

( "What happened?" David asked. "Tell me." He said, "The men fled from the battle. Many of them fell and died. And Saul and his son Jonathan are dead.")

 

1:5 다윗이 자기에게 소식을 전하는 그 젊은이에게 다그쳐 물었다 "사울 임금님과 요나단 왕자께서 전사한 줄을 네가 어떻게 알았느냐?"

( Then David said to the young man who brought him the report, "How do you know that Saul and his son Jonathan are dead?")

 

1:6 다윗에게 소식을 전하는 젊은이가 설명하였다 "제가 우연히 길보아 산에 올라갔다가, 사울 임금님이 창으로 몸을 버티고 서 계신 것을 보았습니다 그 때에 적의 병거와 기병대가 그에게 바짝 다가오고 있었습니다

( "I happened to be on Mount Gilboa," the young man said, "and there was Saul, leaning on his spear, with the chariots and riders almost upon him.)

 

1:7 사울 임금님이 뒤로 고개를 돌리시다가, 저를 보시고서, 저를 부르셨습니다 그래서 제가, 왜 그러시느냐고 여쭈었더니,

( When he turned around and saw me, he called out to me, and I said, 'What can I do?')

 

1:8 저더러 누구냐고 물으셨습니다 아말렉 사람이라고 말씀드렸더니,

( "He asked me, 'Who are you?' "'An Amalekite,' I answered.)

 

1:9 사울 임금님이 저더러 '어서 나를 죽여 다오 아직 목숨이 붙어 있기는 하나, 괴로워서 견딜 수가 없다' 하고 말씀하셨습니다

( "Then he said to me, 'Stand over me and kill me! I am in the throes of death, but I'm still alive.')

 

1:10 제가 보기에도, 일어나서 사실 것 같지 않아서, 다가가서 명령하신 대로 하였습니다 그런 다음에, 저는 머리에 쓰고 계신 왕관을 벗기고, 팔에 끼고 계신 팔찌를 빼어서, 이렇게 가져 왔습니다"

( "So I stood over him and killed him, because I knew that after he had fallen he could not survive. And I took the crown that was on his head and the band on his arm and have brought them here to my lord.")

 

1:11 그러자 다윗이 슬픔을 억누르지 못하여, 자기의 옷을 잡아 찢었고, 그와 같이 있던 사람들도 모두 그렇게 하였다

( Then David and all the men with him took hold of their clothes and tore them.)

 

1:12 그리고 그들은, 사울과 그의 아들 요나단과 주님의 백성 이스라엘 가문이 칼에 맞아 쓰러진 것을 슬퍼하면서, 해가 질 때까지 울며 금식하였다

( They mourned and wept and fasted till evening for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the army of the LORD and the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.)

 

1:13 다윗이 자기에게 소식을 전하여 준 젊은이에게 "너는 어디 사람이냐?" 하고 물으니, "저는 이스라엘 땅에 거주하는 아말렉 사람, 곧 외국인의 아들입니다" 하고 그가 대답하였다

( David said to the young man who brought him the report, "Where are you from?" "I am the son of an alien, an Amalekite," he answered.)

 

1:14 다윗이 그에게 호통을 쳤다 "네가 어떻게 감히 겁도 없이 손을 들어서, 주님께서 기름을 부어서 세우신 분을 살해하였느냐?"

( David asked him, "Why were you not afraid to lift your hand to destroy the LORD'S anointed?")

 

1:15 그리고 다윗이 부하 가운데서 한 사람을 불러서 "가까이 가서, 그를 쳐죽여라" 하고 명령하였다 명령을 받은 그 사람이 그를 칼로 치니, 그가 죽었다

( Then David called one of his men and said, "Go, strike him down!" So he struck him down, and he died.)

 

1:16 그 때에 다윗이 죽어 가는 그를 두고, 이렇게 말하였다 "네가 죽는 것은 너의 탓이다 네가 너의 입으로 '주님께서 기름을 부어서 세우신 분을 제가 죽였습니다' 하고 너의 죄를 시인하였다"

( For David had said to him, "Your blood be on your own head. Your own mouth testified against you when you said, 'I killed the LORD'S anointed.'")

 

다윗이 사울과 요나단을 두고 지은 조가

 

1:17 다윗이 사울과 그의 아들 요나단의 죽음을 슬퍼하여, 조가를 지어서 부르고,

( David took up this lament concerning Saul and his son Jonathan,)

 

1:18 그것을 '활 노래'라 하여, 유다 사람들에게 가르치라고 명령하였다 '야살의 책'에 기록되어 있는 그 조가는 다음과 같다

( and ordered that the men of Judah be taught this lament of the bow (it is written in the Book of Jashar):)

 

1:19 이스라엘아, 우리의 지도자들이 산 위에서 죽었다 가장 용감한 우리의 군인들이 언덕에서 쓰러졌다

( "Your glory, O Israel, lies slain on your heights. How the mighty have fallen!)

 

1:20 이 소식이 가드에 전해지지 않게 하여라 이 소식이 아스글론의 모든 거리에도 전해지지 않게 하여라 블레셋 사람의 딸들이 듣고서 기뻐할라 저 할례받지 못한 자들의 딸들이 환호성을 올릴라

( "Tell it not in Gath, proclaim it not in the streets of Ashkelon, lest the daughters of the Philistines be glad, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised rejoice.)

 

1:21 길보아의 산들아, 너희 위에는 이제부터 이슬이 내리지 아니하고, 비도 내리지 아니할 것이다 밭에서는 제물에 쓸 곡식도 거둘 수 없을 것이다 길보아의 산에서, 용사들의 방패가 치욕을 당하였고, 사울의 방패가 녹슨 채로 버려졌기 때문이다

( "O mountains of Gilboa, may you have neither dew nor rain, nor fields that yield offerings of grain. For there the shield of the mighty was defiled, the shield of Saul--no longer rubbed with oil.)

 

1:22 원수들을 치고 적들을 무찌를 때에, 요나단의 활이 빗나간 일이 없고, 사울의 칼이 허공을 친 적이 없다

( From the blood of the slain, from the flesh of the mighty, the bow of Jonathan did not turn back, the sword of Saul did not return unsatisfied.)

 

1:23 사울과 요나단은 살아 있을 때에도 그렇게 서로 사랑하며 다정하더니, 죽을 때에도 서로 떨어지지 않았구나! 독수리보다도 더 재빠르고, 사자보다도 더 힘이 세더니!

( "Saul and Jonathan--in life they were loved and gracious, and in death they were not parted. They were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.)

 

1:24 이스라엘의 딸들아, 너희에게 울긋불긋 화려한 옷을 입혀 주고, 너희의 옷에 금장식을 달아 주던, 사울을 애도하며 울어라!

( "O daughters of Israel, weep for Saul, who clothed you in scarlet and finery, who adorned your garments with ornaments of gold.)

 

1:25 아, 용사들이 전쟁에서 쓰러져 죽었구나! 요나단, 어쩌다가 산 위에서 죽어 있는가?

( "How the mighty have fallen in battle! Jonathan lies slain on your heights.)

 

1:26 나의 형 요나단, 형 생각에 나의 마음이 아프오 형이 나를 그렇게도 아껴 주더니, 나를 끔찍이 아껴 주던 형의 사랑은 여인의 사랑보다도 더 진한 것이었소

( I grieve for you, Jonathan my brother; you were very dear to me. Your love for me was wonderful, more wonderful than that of women.)

 

1:27 어쩌다가 두 용사가 엎드러졌으며, 무기들이 버려져서, 쓸모 없이 되었는가?

( "How the mighty have fallen! The weapons of war have perished!")

사무엘하 2장

 

다윗이 유다의 왕이 되다

 

2:1 이런 일이 일어난 뒤에, 다윗이 주님께 "제가 유다에 있는 성읍으로 올라가도 됩니까?" 하고 여쭈었다 주님께서 그에게 올라가라고 하셨다 다윗이 다시 여쭈었다 "어느 성읍으로 올라가야 합니까?" 주님께서 헤브론으로 올라가라고 알려 주셨다

( In the course of time, David inquired of the LORD. "Shall I go up to one of the towns of Judah?" he asked. The LORD said, "Go up." David asked, "Where shall I go?" "To Hebron," the LORD answered.)

 

2:2 그리하여 다윗이 그 곳으로 올라갔고, 그의 두 아내 이스르엘 여인 아히노암과, 갈멜 사람 나발의 아내였던 아비가일도 함께 올라갔다

( So David went up there with his two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal of Carmel.)

 

2:3 다윗은 자기의 부하들과 그들의 온 가족을 데리고 함께 올라가서, 헤브론의 여러 성읍에서 살도록 하였다

( David also took the men who were with him, each with his family, and they settled in Hebron and its towns.)

 

2:4 유다 사람들이 찾아와서, 그 곳에서 다윗에게 기름을 부어서, 유다 사람의 왕으로 삼았다 사울을 장사지낸 사람들이 길르앗의 야베스 사람들이라는 소식이 다윗에게 전해지니,

( Then the men of Judah came to Hebron and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. When David was told that it was the men of Jabesh Gilead who had buried Saul,)

 

2:5 다윗이 길르앗의 야베스 주민에게 사절을 보내어서, 그들에게 이와 같이 전하였다 "야베스 주민 여러분이 사울 왕의 장례를 잘 치러서, 왕에게 의리를 지켰으니, 주님께서 여러분에게 복을 주시기 바랍니다

( he sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead to say to them, "The LORD bless you for showing this kindness to Saul your master by burying him.)

 

2:6 여러분이 그러한 일을 하였으니, 이제는 주님께서 여러분을 친절과 성실로 대하여 주시기를 바랍니다 나도 여러분을 잘 대접하겠습니다

( May the LORD now show you kindness and faithfulness, and I too will show you the same favor because you have done this.)

 

2:7 비록 여러분의 왕 사울 임금님은 세상을 떠나셨으나, 유다 사람이 나에게 기름을 부어서 왕으로 삼았으니, 여러분은 이제 낙심하지 말고, 용기를 내기를 바랍니다"

( Now then, be strong and brave, for Saul your master is dead, and the house of Judah has anointed me king over them.")

 

이스보셋이 이스라엘의 왕이 되다

 

2:8 넬의 아들 아브넬은 사울의 군대 사령관인데, 그가 사울의 아들 이스보셋을 데리고, 마하나임으로 건너갔다

( Meanwhile, Abner son of Ner, the commander of Saul's army, had taken Ish-Bosheth son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim.)

 

2:9 거기에서 그는 이스보셋을 왕으로 삼아서, 길르앗과 아술과 이스르엘과 에브라임과 베냐민과 온 이스라엘을 다스리게 하였다

( He made him king over Gilead, Ashuri and Jezreel, and also over Ephraim, Benjamin and all Israel.)

 

2:10 사울의 아들 이스보셋은, 이스라엘의 왕이 될 때에 마흔 살이었다 그는 두 해 동안 다스렸다 유다 족속은 다윗을 따랐는데,

( Ish-Bosheth son of Saul was forty years old when he became king over Israel, and he reigned two years. The house of Judah, however, followed David.)

 

2:11 다윗이 유다 족속의 왕으로 헤브론에서 다스린 기간은 일곱 해 여섯 달이다

( The length of time David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.)

 

이스라엘과 유다의 전쟁

 

2:12 어느 날, 넬의 아들 아브넬이 사울의 아들 이스보셋의 부하들을 거느리고, 마하나임을 떠나 기브온으로 갔다

( Abner son of Ner, together with the men of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, left Mahanaim and went to Gibeon.)

 

2:13 스루야의 아들 요압도 다윗의 부하들을 거느리고 나서서, 두 장군이 기브온 연못을 사이에 두고, 서로 맞붙게 되었다 한 편은 연못의 이쪽에, 또 한 편은 연못의 저쪽에 진을 쳤다

( Joab son of Zeruiah and David's men went out and met them at the pool of Gibeon. One group sat down on one side of the pool and one group on the other side.)

 

2:14 그 때에 아브넬이 요압에게 이런 제안을 하였다 "젊은이들을 내세워서, 우리 앞에서 겨루게 합시다" 요압도 그렇게 하자고 찬성하였다

( Then Abner said to Joab, "Let's have some of the young men get up and fight hand to hand in front of us." "All right, let them do it," Joab said.)

 

2:15 젊은이들이 일어나서, 일정한 수대로 나아갔는데, 사울의 아들 이스보셋 쪽에서는 베냐민 사람 열두 명이 나왔고, 다윗의 부하들 가운데서도 열두 명이 나왔다

( So they stood up and were counted off--twelve men for Benjamin and Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, and twelve for David.)

 

2:16 그들은 서로 상대편 사람의 머리카락을 거머쥐고, 똑같이 상대편 사람의 옆구리를 칼로 찔러서, 모두 함께 쓰러져 죽었다 그래서 기브온에 있는 그 곳을 헬갓핫수림, 곧 '칼의 벌판'이라고 부른다

( Then each man grabbed his opponent by the head and thrust his dagger into his opponent's side, and they fell down together. So that place in Gibeon was called Helkath Hazzurim.)

 

2:17 그 날에 싸움은 가장 치열하게 번져 나갔고, 결국 아브넬이 거느린 이스라엘 군대가 다윗의 군대에게 졌다

( The battle that day was very fierce, and Abner and the men of Israel were defeated by David's men.)

 

2:18 마침 그 곳에는, 스루야의 세 아들 요압과 아비새와 아사헬이 있었는데, 아사헬은 들에 사는 노루처럼 달음박질을 잘 하였다

( The three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab, Abishai and Asahel. Now Asahel was as fleet-footed as a wild gazelle.)

 

2:19 아사헬이 아브넬을 뒤쫓기 시작하여, 오른쪽으로나 왼쪽으로 빗나가지 아니하고, 아브넬만을 바싹 뒤쫓았다

( He chased Abner, turning neither to the right nor to the left as he pursued him.)

 

2:20 아브넬이 뒤를 돌아보면서 "아사헬, 바로 너였구나!" 하고 말하니, 아사헬이 "그래, 바로 나다!" 하고 말하였다

( Abner looked behind him and asked, "Is that you, Asahel?" "It is," he answered.)

 

2:21 그러자 아브넬이 그를 타일렀다 "나를 그만 뒤쫓고, 돌아서서 가거라 여기 나의 좌우에 있는 젊은이나 한 사람 붙잡아서, 그의 군복을 벗겨 가지고 가거라" 그러나 아사헬은 그가 뒤쫓던 길에서 물러가려고 하지 않았다

( Then Abner said to him, "Turn aside to the right or to the left; take on one of the young men and strip him of his weapons." But Asahel would not stop chasing him.)

 

2:22 아브넬이 다시 한 번 아사헬을 타일렀다 "너는 나를 그만 뒤쫓고, 물러가거라 내가 너를 쳐죽여서, 너를 땅바닥에 쓰러뜨려야 할 까닭이 없지 않느냐? 내가 너를 죽이고, 어떻게 너의 형 요압을 보겠느냐?"

( Again Abner warned Asahel, "Stop chasing me! Why should I strike you down? How could I look your brother Joab in the face?")

 

2:23 그런데도 아사헬이 물러가기를 거절하니, 아브넬이 창 끝으로 아사헬의 배를 찔렀다 창이 그의 등을 뚫고 나왔으며, 그는 그 자리에서 쓰러져 죽었다 아사헬을 따르던 사람들이, 그가 쓰러진 곳에 이르러서, 모두 멈추어 섰다

( But Asahel refused to give up the pursuit; so Abner thrust the butt of his spear into Asahel's stomach, and the spear came out through his back. He fell there and died on the spot. And every man stopped when he came to the place where Asahel had fallen and died.)

 

2:24 그러나 나머지 두 형제 요압과 아비새는 아브넬을 계속 뒤쫓았다 그들이 기브온 광야로 들어가는 길 가의 기아 건너쪽에 있는 암마 언덕에 이르렀을 때에, 날이 저물었다

( But Joab and Abishai pursued Abner, and as the sun was setting, they came to the hill of Ammah, near Giah on the way to the wasteland of Gibeon.)

 

2:25 그 때에 아브넬을 따르는 베냐민 족속의 군인들은, 언덕 위에서 아브넬을 호위하고 버티었다

( Then the men of Benjamin rallied behind Abner. They formed themselves into a group and took their stand on top of a hill.)

 

2:26 거기에서 아브넬이 요압에게 휴전을 제의하였다 "우리가 언제까지 이렇게 싸워야 하겠소? 이렇게 싸우다가는, 마침내 우리 둘 다 비참하게 망하고 말지 않겠소? 우리가 얼마나 더 기다려야, 장군이 장군의 부하들에게 동족을 추격하지 말고 돌아가라고 명령하겠소?"

( Abner called out to Joab, "Must the sword devour forever? Don't you realize that this will end in bitterness? How long before you order your men to stop pursuing their brothers?")

 

2:27 요압이 대답하였다 "하나님의 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하오 장군이 이런 제안을 하지 않으셨으면, 내 군대가 내일 아침까지 추격을 해서, 장군을 잡았을 것이오"

( Joab answered, "As surely as God lives, if you had not spoken, the men would have continued the pursuit of their brothers until morning.")

 

2:28 요압이 나팔을 부니, 모든 군인이 멈추어 섰다 그들은 더 이상 이스라엘을 추격하지 않고, 더 이상 그들과 싸우지 않았다

( So Joab blew the trumpet, and all the men came to a halt; they no longer pursued Israel, nor did they fight anymore.)

 

2:29 아브넬과 그의 부하들이 그 날, 밤이 새도록 아라바를 지나갔다 그들은 요단 강을 건너고, 비드론 온 땅을 거쳐서 마하나임에 이르렀다

( All that night Abner and his men marched through the Arabah. They crossed the Jordan, continued through the whole Bithron and came to Mahanaim.)

 

2:30 요압도 아브넬을 뒤쫓던 길에서 돌아와서, 군인들을 점호하여 보니, 다윗의 부하 가운데서 열아홉 명이 없고, 아사헬도 없었다

( Then Joab returned from pursuing Abner and assembled all his men. Besides Asahel, nineteen of David's men were found missing.)

 

2:31 그러나 다윗의 부하들은, 아브넬의 부하 가운데서 베냐민과 아브넬 군인을 삼백육십 명이나 쳐죽였다

( But David's men had killed three hundred and sixty Benjamites who were with Abner.)

 

2:32 요압과 그 부하들은 아사헬의 주검을 메어다가, 그의 아버지가 묻혀 있는 베들레헴의 무덤에 장사하였다 그리고 그들이 밤이 새도록 걸어서 헤브론에 이르렀을 때에, 아침 해가 떠올랐다

( They took Asahel and buried him in his father's tomb at Bethlehem. Then Joab and his men marched all night and arrived at Hebron by daybreak.)

사무엘하 3장

 

3:1 사울 집안과 다윗 집안 사이에 전쟁이 오래 계속되었다 그러나 다윗 집안은 점점 더 강해지고, 사울 집안은 점점 더 약해졌다

( The war between the house of Saul and the house of David lasted a long time. David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.)

 

다윗의 아들들;대상3:1-4

 

3:2 다윗이 헤브론에서 낳은 아들은 다음과 같다 맏아들은 이스르엘 여인 아히노암에게서 태어난 암논이고,

( Sons were born to David in Hebron: His firstborn was Amnon the son of Ahinoam of Jezreel;)

 

3:3 둘째 아들은 갈멜 사람 나발의 아내였던 아비가일에게서 태어난 길르압이고, 셋째 아들은 그술 왕 달매의 딸 마아가에게서 태어난 압살롬이고,

( his second, Kileab the son of Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel; the third, Absalom the son of Maacah daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;)

 

3:4 넷째 아들은 학깃에게서 태어난 아도니야이고, 다섯째 아들은 아비달에게서 태어난 스바댜이고,

( the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;)

 

3:5 여섯째 아들은 다윗의 아내 에글라에게서 태어난 이드르암이다 이들이 다윗이 헤브론에서 살 때에 낳은 아들이다

( and the sixth, Ithream the son of David's wife Eglah. These were born to David in Hebron.)

 

아브넬이 이스보셋을 배반하다

 

3:6 사울 집안과 다윗 집안 사이에 전쟁이 계속되는 동안에, 사울 집안에서는 아브넬이 점점 더 세력을 잡았다

( During the war between the house of Saul and the house of David, Abner had been strengthening his own position in the house of Saul.)

 

3:7 사울의 후궁 가운데 리스바라는 여인이 있는데, 아야의 딸이었다 이스보셋이 아브넬에게 "장군은 어찌하여 나의 아버지의 후궁을 범하였소?" 하고 꾸짖었다

( Now Saul had had a concubine named Rizpah daughter of Aiah. And Ish-Bosheth said to Abner, "Why did you sleep with my father's concubine?")

 

3:8 그러자 아브넬이 이스보셋의 말에 몹시 화를 내면서 대답하였다 "임금께서는 내가, 유다에 빌붙어 살아가는 개로밖에 보이지 않습니까? 나는 오늘날까지 임금님의 아버지 사울 집안과 그의 형제들과 친구들에게 충성을 다하였고, 임금님을 다윗의 손에 넘겨 주지도 않았습니다 그런데도 임금님께서 오늘 이 여자의 그릇된 행실을 두고, 나에게 누명을 씌우시려는 것입니까?

( Abner was very angry because of what Ish-Bosheth said and he answered, "Am I a dog's head--on Judah's side? This very day I am loyal to the house of your father Saul and to his family and friends. I haven't handed you over to David. Yet now you accuse me of an offense involving this woman!)

 

3:9 주님께서는 이미 다윗에게 약속하신 것이 있습니다 이제 저는 다윗 편을 들어서 하나님의 뜻대로 하겠습니다 그렇게 하지 않는다면, 하나님이 이 아브넬에게 벌을 내리시고 또 내리셔도 좋습니다

( May God deal with Abner, be it ever so severely, if I do not do for David what the LORD promised him on oath)

 

3:10 하나님은 이 나라를 사울과 그의 자손에게서 빼앗아, 다윗에게 주실 것입니다 하나님이 다윗을 이스라엘과 유다의 왕으로 삼으셔서, 북쪽 단에서부터 남쪽 브엘세바에 이르기까지 다스리게 하실 것입니다"

( and transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and establish David's throne over Israel and Judah from Dan to Beersheba.")

 

3:11 이 말을 듣고, 이스보셋은 아브넬이 두려워서, 그에게 다시는 말 한 마디도 하지 못하였다

( Ish-Bosheth did not dare to say another word to Abner, because he was afraid of him.)

( Then Abner sent messengers on his behalf to say to David, "Whose land is it? Make an agreement with me, and I will help you bring all Israel over to you.")

 

3:13 다윗이 대답하였다 "좋소! 내가 장군과 언약을 세우겠소 그런데 나는 장군에게 한 가지만 요구하겠소 그대는 나를 만나러 올 때에 사울의 딸 미갈을 데리고 오시오 그렇지 않으면, 내 얼굴을 볼 생각을 하지 마시오"

( "Good," said David. "I will make an agreement with you. But I demand one thing of you: Do not come into my presence unless you bring Michal daughter of Saul when you come to see me.")

 

3:14 그런 다음에 다윗은 사울의 아들 이스보셋에게 사람을 보내어서, 이렇게 전하였다 "나의 아내 미갈을 돌려 주시오 미갈은 내가 블레셋 사람의 포피 백 개를 바치고 맞은 아내요"

( Then David sent messengers to Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, demanding, "Give me my wife Michal, whom I betrothed to myself for the price of a hundred Philistine foreskins.")

 

3:15 그러자 이스보셋이 사람을 보내어서, 미갈을 그의 남편인 라이스의 아들 발디엘에게서 빼앗아 오도록 하였다

( So Ish-Bosheth gave orders and had her taken away from her husband Paltiel son of Laish.)

 

3:16 그 때에 그 여인의 남편은 계속 울면서 바후림까지 자기 아내를 따라왔는데, 아브넬이 그에게 "당신은 그만 돌아가시오" 하고 말하니, 그가 돌아갔다

( Her husband, however, went with her, weeping behind her all the way to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, "Go back home!" So he went back.)

 

3:17 아브넬이 이스라엘의 장로들과 상의하였다 "여러분은 이미 전부터 다윗을 여러분의 왕으로 모시려고 애를 썼습니다

( Abner conferred with the elders of Israel and said, "For some time you have wanted to make David your king.)

 

3:18 이제 기회가 왔습니다 주님께서 이미 다윗을 두고 '내가 나의 종 다윗을 시켜서, 나의 백성 이스라엘을 블레셋 사람의 지배와 모든 원수의 지배에서 구하여 내겠다' 하고 약속하여 주셨기 때문입니다"

( Now do it! For the LORD promised David, 'By my servant David I will rescue my people Israel from the hand of the Philistines and from the hand of all their enemies.'")

 

3:19 아브넬은 베냐민 사람들과도 상의한 뒤에, 이스라엘과 베냐민 사람 전체가 한데 모은 뜻을 다윗에게 전하려고, 헤브론으로 떠났다

( Abner also spoke to the Benjamites in person. Then he went to Hebron to tell David everything that Israel and the whole house of Benjamin wanted to do.)

 

3:20 아브넬이 부하 스무 명을 거느리고 헤브론에 이르러서, 다윗을 찾아가니, 다윗이 아브넬과 그를 따라온 사람들에게 잔치를 베풀었다

( When Abner, who had twenty men with him, came to David at Hebron, David prepared a feast for him and his men.)

 

3:21 잔치가 끝나자 아브넬이 다윗에게 말하였다 "이제 그만 일어나 가서, 온 이스라엘을 높으신 임금님 앞에 모아 놓고서, 임금님과 언약을 세우게 하겠습니다 그러면 임금님이 원하시는 어느 곳에서나, 원하시는 대로, 왕이 되셔서 다스리실 수 있습니다" 다윗이 아브넬을 떠나 보내니, 그가 평안히 떠나갔다

( Then Abner said to David, "Let me go at once and assemble all Israel for my lord the king, so that they may make a compact with you, and that you may rule over all that your heart desires." So David sent Abner away, and he went in peace.)

 

아브넬이 살해되다

 

3:22 그 때에, 다윗의 부하들이 요압을 따라 습격하러 나갔다가, 많은 노략물을 가지고 돌아왔다 그러나 아브넬은 그 때에 다윗과 함께 헤브론에 있지 않았다 다윗이 이미 그를 보내어서, 그가 무사하게 그 곳을 떠나갔기 때문이다

( Just then David's men and Joab returned from a raid and brought with them a great deal of plunder. But Abner was no longer with David in Hebron, because David had sent him away, and he had gone in peace.)

 

3:23 요압이, 함께 데리고 나갔던 군인을 모두 데리고 돌아오자, 누군가가 그에게 알려 주었다 "넬의 아들 아브넬이 임금님을 찾아왔는데, 임금님이 그를 그냥 보내셔서, 그가 무사하게 이 곳을 떠나갔습니다"

( When Joab and all the soldiers with him arrived, he was told that Abner son of Ner had come to the king and that the king had sent him away and that he had gone in peace.)

 

3:24 이 말을 듣고, 요압이 곧바로 왕에게로 가서 항의하였다 "임금님이 어찌하여 이렇게 하실 수 있습니까? 아브넬이 임금님께 왔는데, 임금님은 어찌하여 그를 그냥 보내어서, 가게 하셨습니까?

( So Joab went to the king and said, "What have you done? Look, Abner came to you. Why did you let him go? Now he is gone!)

 

3:25 넬의 아들 아브넬은, 임금님께서 잘 아시다시피, 임금님을 속이려고 온 것이며, 임금님이 드나드는 것을 살피고, 임금님이 하고 계시는 일도 모조리 알려고 온 것입니다"

( You know Abner son of Ner; he came to deceive you and observe your movements and find out everything you are doing.")

 

3:26 요압은 다윗에게서 물러나오자마자 사람들을 보내어서 아브넬을 뒤쫓게 하였다 그들은 시라 우물이 있는 곳에서 그를 붙잡아서, 데리고 돌아왔다 그러나 다윗은 그 일을 전혀 몰랐다

( Joab then left David and sent messengers after Abner, and they brought him back from the well of Sirah. But David did not know it.)

 

3:27 아브넬이 헤브론으로 돌아오니, 요압이 그와 조용히 이야기를 하려는 듯이, 성문 안으로 그를 데리고 들어갔다 요압은 거기에서, 동생 아사헬의 원수를 갚으려고, 아브넬의 배를 찔러서 죽였다

( Now when Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the gateway, as though to speak with him privately. And there, to avenge the blood of his brother Asahel, Joab stabbed him in the stomach, and he died.)

 

3:28 다윗이 그 소식을 듣고서 외쳤다 "넬의 아들 아브넬이 암살당하였으나, 나와 나의 나라는 주님 앞에 아무 죄가 없다

( Later, when David heard about this, he said, "I and my kingdom are forever innocent before the LORD concerning the blood of Abner son of Ner.)

 

3:29 오직 그 죄는 요압의 머리와 그 아버지의 온 집안으로 돌아갈 것이다 앞으로 요압의 집안에서는, 고름을 흘리는 병자와, 나병환자와, 지팡이를 짚고 다니는 다리 저는 사람과, 칼을 맞아 죽는 자들과, 굶어 죽는 사람이 끊어지지 않을 것이다"

( May his blood fall upon the head of Joab and upon all his father's house! May Joab's house never be without someone who has a running sore or leprosy or who leans on a crutch or who falls by the sword or who lacks food.")

 

3:30 요압과 그의 동생 아비새가 아브넬을 죽인 것은, 아브넬이 그들의 동생 아사헬을 기브온 전투에서 죽였기 때문이다

( (Joab and his brother Abishai murdered Abner because he had killed their brother Asahel in the battle at Gibeon.))

 

아브넬의 장례식

 

3:31 다윗은 요압을 비롯하여 자기와 함께 있는 온 백성에게 명령하였다 "백성은 옷을 찢고, 허리에 굵은 베 옷을 두른 뒤에, 아브넬의 상여 앞에서 걸어가면서 애도하여라" 그리고 다윗 왕도 몸소 상여를 뒤따라갔다

( Then David said to Joab and all the people with him, "Tear your clothes and put on sackcloth and walk in mourning in front of Abner." King David himself walked behind the bier.)

 

3:32 백성이 아브넬을 헤브론에 장사지내니, 다윗 왕이 아브넬의 무덤 앞에서 목을 놓아 울었고, 온 백성도 울었다

( They buried Abner in Hebron, and the king wept aloud at Abner's tomb. All the people wept also.)

 

3:33 다윗 왕은 아브넬을 두고, 이렇게 조가를 지어 불렀다 "어찌하여 어리석은 사람이 죽듯이, 그렇게 아브넬이 죽었는가?

( The king sang this lament for Abner: "Should Abner have died as the lawless die?)

 

3:34 그의 손이 묶이지도 않았고, 발이 쇠고랑에 채이지도 않았는데, 악한들에게 잡혀 죽듯이, 그렇게 쓰러져서 죽었는가?" 그러자 온 백성이 아브넬의 죽음을 슬퍼하며, 다시 한 번 울었다

( Your hands were not bound, your feet were not fettered. You fell as one falls before wicked men." And all the people wept over him again.)

 

3:35 날이 아직 채 저물지 않았을 때에, 온 백성이 다윗에게 와서 음식을 들도록 권하니, 다윗이 맹세하였다 "오늘 해가 지기 전에, 내가 빵이나 그 어떤 것을 맛이라도 보면, 하나님이 나에게 어떤 벌을 내리셔도 마땅하다"

( Then they all came and urged David to eat something while it was still day; but David took an oath, saying, "May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if I taste bread or anything else before the sun sets!")

 

3:36 온 백성이 그것을 보고서, 그 일을 좋게 여겼다 다윗 왕이 무엇을 하든지, 온 백성이 마음에 좋게 받아들였다

( All the people took note and were pleased; indeed, everything the king did pleased them.)

 

3:37 그 때에야, 비로소 넬의 아들 아브넬을 죽인 것이 왕에게서 비롯된 일이 아님을, 온 백성과 온 이스라엘이 깨달아 알았다

( So on that day all the people and all Israel knew that the king had no part in the murder of Abner son of Ner.)

 

3:38 그런 다음에 왕은 신복들에게 말하였다 "그대들이 아는 대로, 오늘 이스라엘에서 훌륭한 장군이 죽었소

( Then the king said to his men, "Do you not realize that a prince and a great man has fallen in Israel this day?)

 

3:39 스루야의 아들들이 나보다 더 강하니, 비록 내가 기름부음을 받은 왕이라고 하지만, 보다시피 이렇게 약하오 그러므로 이런 악을 저지른 사람에게, 주님께서 그 죄악에 따라 갚아 주시기만 바랄 뿐이오"

( And today, though I am the anointed king, I am weak, and these sons of Zeruiah are too strong for me. May the LORD repay the evildoer according to his evil deeds!")

이스보셋이 살해됨

 

4:1 사울의 아들 이스보셋은, 아브넬이 헤브론에서 죽었다는 소식을 듣고서, 그만 맥이 풀리고 말았다 이스라엘 온 백성도 두려움에 사로잡혔다

( When Ish-Bosheth son of Saul heard that Abner had died in Hebron, he lost courage, and all Israel became alarmed.)

 

4:2 이 때에 사울의 아들 이스보셋에게는 군지휘관이 두 사람 있었는데, 한 사람의 이름은 바아나요, 또 한 사람의 이름은 레갑이었다 그들은 브에롯 사람 림몬의 아들로서, 베냐민 사람이다 （브에롯 사람도 베냐민 족속으로 여김을 받았는데,

( Now Saul's son had two men who were leaders of raiding bands. One was named Baanah and the other Recab; they were sons of Rimmon the Beerothite from the tribe of Benjamin--Beeroth is considered part of Benjamin,)

 

4:3 일찍이 브에롯 주민이 깃다임으로 도망가서, 오늘날까지 거기에 머물러 살고 있기 때문이다）

( because the people of Beeroth fled to Gittaim and have lived there as aliens to this day.)

 

4:4 사울의 아들 요나단에게는 두 다리를 저는 아들이 하나 있었다 사울과 요나단이 죽었다는 소식이 이스르엘에 전해졌을 때에, 그는 겨우 다섯 살이었다 유모가 그를 업고 도망할 때에, 서둘러 도망하다가, 그가 떨어져서 발을 절게 되었다 그의 이름이 므비보셋이다

( (Jonathan son of Saul had a son who was lame in both feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel. His nurse picked him up and fled, but as she hurried to leave, he fell and became crippled. His name was Mephibosheth.))

 

4:5 브에롯 사람 림몬의 두 아들 레갑과 바아나가 이스보셋이 있는 왕궁으로 갔다 그들은 한창 더운 대낮에 그 곳에 도착하였는데, 때마침 이스보셋은 낮잠을 자고 있었다

( Now Recab and Baanah, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, set out for the house of Ish-Bosheth, and they arrived there in the heat of the day while he was taking his noonday rest.)

 

4:6 그들은 밀을 가지러 온 사람처럼 꾸미고, 대궐 안으로 들어가서, 그의 배를 찔러서 죽였다 그런 다음에 레갑과 그의 동생 바아나는 도망하였는데,

( They went into the inner part of the house as if to get some wheat, and they stabbed him in the stomach. Then Recab and his brother Baanah slipped away.)

( They brought the head of Ish-Bosheth to David at Hebron and said to the king, "Here is the head of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, your enemy, who tried to take your life. This day the LORD has avenged my lord the king against Saul and his offspring.")

 

4:9 그러나 다윗은 브에롯 사람 림몬의 아들 레갑과 그의 동생 바아나에게 이와 같이 대답하였다 "온갖 죽을 고비에서 나의 생명을 건져 주신 확실히 살아 계신 주님을 두고 맹세한다

( David answered Recab and his brother Baanah, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, "As surely as the LORD lives, who has delivered me out of all trouble,)

 

4:10 전에, 사울이 죽었다는 소식을 나에게 전하여 주고, 자기는 좋은 소식을 전한 것으로 여긴 자가 있었다 나는 그를 붙잡아서, 시글락에서 죽였다 이것이 내가 그에게 준 보상이었다

( when a man told me, 'Saul is dead,' and thought he was bringing good news, I seized him and put him to death in Ziklag. That was the reward I gave him for his news!)

 

4:11 하물며, 흉악한 자들이, 자기 집 침상에서 잠자는 어진 사람을 죽였으니, 내가 어찌 너희의 살인죄를 벌하지 않을 수가 있겠느냐? 그러므로 나는 이제 너희를 이 땅에서 없애 버리겠다"

( How much more--when wicked men have killed an innocent man in his own house and on his own bed--should I not now demand his blood from your hand and rid the earth of you!")

 

4:12 다윗이 젊은이들에게 명령하니, 젊은이들이 그 두 사람을 죽이고, 그들의 손과 발을 모조리 잘라 낸 다음에, 그들의 주검을 헤브론의 연못가에 달아 매었다 그러나 이스보셋의 머리는 가져다가, 헤브론에 있는 아브넬의 무덤에 묻었다

( So David gave an order to his men, and they killed them. They cut off their hands and feet and hung the bodies by the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ish-Bosheth and buried it in Abner's tomb at Hebron.)
