사무엘하 11장

 

다윗과 밧세바

 

11:1 그 다음 해 봄에, 왕들이 출전하는 때가 되자, 다윗은 요압에게 자기의 부하들과 온 이스라엘의 군인들을 맡겨서 출전시켰다 그들은 암몬 사람을 무찌르고, 랍바를 포위하였다 그러나 다윗은 예루살렘에 머물러 있었다

( In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king's men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem.)

 

11:2 어느 날 저녁에, 다윗은 잠깐 눈을 붙였다가 일어나, 왕궁의 옥상에 올라가서 거닐었다 그 때에 그는 한 여인이 목욕하는 모습을 옥상에서 내려다 보았다 그 여인은 아주 아름다웠다

( One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful,)

 

11:3 다윗은 신하를 보내서, 그 여인이 누구인지 알아 보게 하였다 다녀온 신하가, 그 여인은 엘리암의 딸로서, 헷 사람 우리야의 아내 밧세바라고 하였다

( and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, "Isn't this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite?")

 

11:4 그런데도 다윗은 사람을 보내어서 그 여인을 데려왔다 밧세바가 다윗에게로 오니, 다윗은 그 여인과 정을 통하였다 （그 여인은 마침 부정한 몸을 깨끗하게 씻고 난 다음이었다） 그런 다음에 밧세바는 다시 자기의 집으로 돌아갔다

( Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. (She had purified herself from her uncleanness.) Then she went back home.)

 

11:5 얼마 뒤에 그 여인은 자기가 임신한 것을 알고, 다윗에게 사람을 보내서, 자기가 임신하였다는 사실을 알렸다

( The woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, "I am pregnant.")

 

11:6 다윗이 그 소식을 듣고는, 요압에게 전갈을 보내서, 헷 사람 우리야를 왕궁으로 보내게 하였다 요압이 우리야를 다윗에게 보내니,

( So David sent this word to Joab: "Send me Uriah the Hittite." And Joab sent him to David.)

 

11:7 우리야가 다윗에게로 왔다 다윗은 요압의 안부와 군인들의 안부를 묻고, 싸움터의 형편도 물었다

( When Uriah came to him, David asked him how Joab was, how the soldiers were and how the war was going.)

 

11:8 그런 다음에 다윗은 우리야에게 말하였다 "이제 그대의 집으로 내려가서 목욕을 하고 쉬어라" 우리야가 어전에서 물러가니, 왕은 먹을 것을 함께 딸려서 보냈다

( Then David said to Uriah, "Go down to your house and wash your feet." So Uriah left the palace, and a gift from the king was sent after him.)

 

11:9 그러나 우리야는 자기 상전의 종들과 함께 대궐 문간에 누워서 자고, 자기 집으로는 내려가지 않았다

( But Uriah slept at the entrance to the palace with all his master's servants and did not go down to his house.)

 

11:10 다윗은 우리야가 자기 집으로 내려가지 않았다는 말을 듣고, 원정 길에서 돌아왔는데, 왜 집으로 내려가지 않는지를, 우리야에게 물었다

( When David was told, "Uriah did not go home," he asked him, "Haven't you just come from a distance? Why didn't you go home?")

 

11:11 우리야가 다윗에게 대답하였다 "언약궤와 이스라엘과 유다가 모두 장막을 치고 지내며, 저의 상관이신 요압 장군과 임금님의 모든 신하가 벌판에서 진을 치고 있습니다 그런데 어찌, 저만 홀로 집으로 돌아가서, 먹고 마시고, 나의 아내와 잠자리를 같이 할 수가 있겠습니까? 임금님이 확실히 살아 계심과, 또 임금님의 생명을 걸고 맹세합니다 그런 일은 제가 하지 않겠습니다"

( Uriah said to David, "The ark and Israel and Judah are staying in tents, and my master Joab and my lord's men are camped in the open fields. How could I go to my house to eat and drink and lie with my wife? As surely as you live, I will not do such a thing!")

 

11:12 다윗이 우리야에게 말하였다 "그렇다면, 오늘은 날도 저물었으니, 여기에서 지내도록 하여라 그러나 내일은 내가 너를 보내겠다" 그리하여 우리야는 그 날 밤을 예루살렘에서 묵었다 그 다음날,

( Then David said to him, "Stay here one more day, and tomorrow I will send you back." So Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the next.)

 

11:13 다윗이 그를 불러다가, 자기 앞에서 먹고 마시고 취하게 하였다 그러나 저녁때에 그는 여전히 왕의 신하들과 함께 잠자리에 들고, 자기 집으로는 내려가지 않았다

( At David's invitation, he ate and drank with him, and David made him drunk. But in the evening Uriah went out to sleep on his mat among his master's servants; he did not go home.)

 

11:14 다음날 아침에 다윗은 요압에게 편지를 써서, 우리야의 편에 보냈다

( In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah.)

 

11:15 다윗은 그 편지에 다음과 같이 썼다 "너희는 우리야를, 전투가 가장 치열한 전선으로 앞세우고 나아갔다가, 너희만 그의 뒤로 물러나서, 그가 맞아서 죽게 하여라"

( In it he wrote, "Put Uriah in the front line where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and die.")

 

11:16 요압은 적의 성을 포위하고 있다가, 자기가 알고 있는 대로 적의 저항 세력이 가장 강한 곳에 우리야를 배치하였다

( So while Joab had the city under siege, he put Uriah at a place where he knew the strongest defenders were.)

 

11:17 그 성의 사람들이 나가서 요압의 군인들과 싸우는 동안에, 다윗의 부하들 쪽에서 군인 몇 사람이 쓰러져서 죽었고, 그 때에 헷 사람 우리야도 전사하였다

( When the men of the city came out and fought against Joab, some of the men in David's army fell; moreover, Uriah the Hittite died.)

 

11:18 요압이 다윗에게 사람을 보내서 전쟁의 상황을 모두 전하였다

( Joab sent David a full account of the battle.)

 

11:19 요압은 전령에게 이렇게 지시하였다 "네가 이번 전쟁의 상황을 모두 임금님께 말씀드리고 났을 때에,

( He instructed the messenger: "When you have finished giving the king this account of the battle,)

 

11:20 임금님이 화를 내시며 네게 말씀하시기를 '너희가 왜 그토록 성에 가까이 가서 싸웠느냐? 적의 성벽 위에서 적병들이 활을 쏠 줄도 몰랐단 말이냐?

( the king's anger may flare up, and he may ask you, 'Why did you get so close to the city to fight? Didn't you know they would shoot arrows from the wall?)

 

11:21 여룹베셋의 아들 아비멜렉을 누가 쳐서 죽였느냐? 어떤 여자가 성벽 위에서 그의 머리 위로 맷돌 위짝을 던져서, 그가 데벳스에서 죽지 않았느냐? 그런 것을 알면서, 너희가 무엇 때문에 그토록 성벽에 가까이 갔느냐?' 하시면, 너는 '임금님의 부하 헷 사람 우리야도 죽었습니다' 하고 대답하여라"

( Who killed Abimelech son of Jerub-Besheth? Didn't a woman throw an upper millstone on him from the wall, so that he died in Thebez? Why did you get so close to the wall?' If he asks you this, then say to him, 'Also, your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead.'")

 

11:22 전령이 떠나, 다윗에게 이르러서, 요압이 심부름을 보내면서 일러준 말을 모두 전하였다

( The messenger set out, and when he arrived he told David everything Joab had sent him to say.)

 

11:23 전령은 다윗에게 이렇게 말하였다 "우리의 적은 우리보다 강하였습니다 적이 우리와 싸우려고 평지로 나왔으므로, 우리는 적들을 성 안으로 밀어 넣으려고, 성문 가까이까지 적들을 밀어붙였습니다

( The messenger said to David, "The men overpowered us and came out against us in the open, but we drove them back to the entrance to the city gate.)

 

11:24 그 때에 성벽 위에 있는 적들이 임금님의 부하들에게 활을 쏘았습니다 그래서 임금님의 부하들 가운데서 몇 사람이 죽었고, 임금님의 부하인 헷 사람 우리야도 죽었습니다"

( Then the archers shot arrows at your servants from the wall, and some of the king's men died. Moreover, your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead.")

 

11:25 그러자 다윗이 전령에게 말하였다 "너는 요압에게, 칼은 이 편도 죽이고 저 편도 죽이기 마련이니, 이번 일로 조금도 걱정하지 말라고 전하여라 오히려 그 성을 계속 맹렬히 공격하여서 무너뜨리라고 전하여, 요압이 용기를 잃지 않도록 하여라"

( David told the messenger, "Say this to Joab: 'Don't let this upset you; the sword devours one as well as another. Press the attack against the city and destroy it.' Say this to encourage Joab.")

 

11:26 우리야의 아내는, 우리야가 죽었다는 소식을 듣자, 자기의 남편을 생각하여 슬피 울었다

( When Uriah's wife heard that her husband was dead, she mourned for him.)

 

11:27 애도하는 기간이 지나니, 다윗이 사람을 보내어서, 그 여인을 왕궁으로 데려왔다 그 여인은 이렇게 하여서 다윗의 아내가 되었고, 그들 사이에서 아들이 태어났다 그러나 주님께서 보시기에 다윗이 한 이번 일은 아주 악하였다

( After the time of mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing David had done displeased the LORD.)

사무엘하 12장

 

나단의 책망과 다윗의 회개

 

12:1 주님께서 예언자 나단을 다윗에게 보내셨다 나단은 다윗을 찾아와서, 이런 이야기를 하였다 "어떤 성읍에 두 사람이 살았습니다 한 사람은 부유하였고, 한 사람은 가난하였습니다

( The LORD sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, "There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor.)

 

12:2 그 부자에게는 양과 소가 아주 많았습니다

( The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle,)

 

12:3 그러나 그 가난한 사람에게는, 사다가 키우는 어린 암양 한 마리 밖에는, 아무것도 없었습니다 그는 이 어린 양을 자기 집에서 길렀습니다 그래서 그 어린 양은 그의 아이들과 함께 자라났습니다 어린 양은 주인이 먹는 음식을 함께 먹고, 주인의 잔에 있는 것을 함께 마시고, 주인의 품에 안겨서 함께 잤습니다 이렇게 그 양은 주인의 딸과 같았습니다

( but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him.)

 

12:4 그런데 그 부자에게 나그네 한 사람이 찾아왔습니다 그 부자는 자기를 찾아온 손님을 대접하는 데, 자기의 양 떼나 소 떼에서는 한 마리도 잡기가 아까웠습니다 그래서 그는 그 가난한 사람의 어린 암양을 빼앗아다가, 자기를 찾아온 사람에게 대접하였습니다"

( "Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the ewe lamb that belonged to the poor man and prepared it for the one who had come to him.")

 

12:5 다윗은 그 부자가 못마땅하여, 몹시 분개하면서, 나단에게 말하였다 "주님께서 확실히 살아 계심을 두고서 맹세하지만, 그런 일을 한 사람은 죽어야 마땅합니다

( David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, "As surely as the LORD lives, the man who did this deserves to die!)

 

12:6 또 그가 그런 일을 하면서도 불쌍히 여기는 마음이 전혀 없었으니, 그는 마땅히 그 어린 암양을 네 배로 갚아 주어야 합니다"

( He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity.")

 

12:7 나단이 다윗에게 말하였다 "임금님이 바로 그 사람입니다 주 이스라엘의 하나님이 이렇게 말씀하십니다 '내가 너에게 기름을 부어서, 이스라엘의 왕으로 삼았고, 또 내가 사울의 손에서 너를 구하여 주었다

( Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man! This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.)

 

12:8 나는 네 상전의 왕궁을 너에게 넘겨 주고, 네 상전의 아내들도 네 품에 안겨 주었고, 이스라엘 사람들과 유다 나라도 너에게 맡겼다 그것으로도 부족하다면, 내가 네게 무엇이든지 더 주었을 것이다

( I gave your master's house to you, and your master's wives into your arms. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more.)

 

12:9 그런데도 너는, 어찌하여 나 주의 말을 가볍게 여기고, 내가 악하게 여기는 일을 하였느냐? 너는 헷 사람 우리야를 전쟁터에서 죽이고 그의 아내를 빼앗아 네 아내로 삼았다 너는 그를 암몬 사람의 칼에 맞아서 죽게 하였다

( Why did you despise the word of the LORD by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.)

 

12:10 너는 이렇게 나를 무시하여 헷 사람 우리야의 아내를 빼앗아다가 네 아내로 삼았으므로, 이제부터는 영영 네 집안에서 칼부림이 떠나지 않을 것이다'

( Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.')

 

12:11 주님께서 또 이렇게 말씀하십니다 '내가 너의 집안에 재앙을 일으키고, 네가 보는 앞에서 내가 너의 아내들도 빼앗아 너와 가까운 사람에게 주어서, 그가 대낮에 너의 아내들을 욕보이게 하겠다

( "This is what the LORD says: 'Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity upon you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight.)

 

12:12 너는 비록 몰래 그러한 일을 하였지만, 나는 대낮에 온 이스라엘이 바라보는 앞에서 이 일을 하겠다'"

( You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.'")

 

12:13 그 때에 다윗이 나단에게 자백하였다 "내가 주님께 죄를 지었습니다" 나단이 다윗에게 말하였다 "주님께서 임금님의 죄를 용서해 주실 것입니다 그러므로 임금님은 죽지는 않으실 것입니다

( Then David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." Nathan replied, "The LORD has taken away your sin. You are not going to die.)

 

12:14 그러나 임금님은 이번 일로 주님의 원수들에게 우리를 비방할 빌미를 주셨으므로, 밧세바와 임금님 사이에서 태어난 아들은 죽을 것입니다"

( But because by doing this you have made the enemies of the LORD show utter contempt, the son born to you will die.")

 

다윗의 아들이 죽다

 

12:15 나단은 자기 집으로 돌아갔다 주님께서, 우리야의 아내와 다윗 사이에서 태어난 아이를 치시니, 그 아이가 몹시 앓았다

( After Nathan had gone home, the LORD struck the child that Uriah's wife had borne to David, and he became ill.)

 

12:16 다윗이 그 어린 아이를 살리려고, 하나님께 간절히 기도를 드리면서 금식하였다 그는 왕궁으로 돌아와서도 밤을 새웠으며, 맨 땅에 누워서 잠을 잤다

( David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and went into his house and spent the nights lying on the ground.)

 

12:17 다윗 왕궁에 있는 늙은 신하들이 그에게로 가까이 가서, 그를 땅바닥에서 일으켜 세우려고 하였으나, 그는 일어나려고 하지도 않고, 또 그들과 함께 음식을 먹으려고도 하지 않았다

( The elders of his household stood beside him to get him up from the ground, but he refused, and he would not eat any food with them.)

 

12:18 그러다가, 이레째 되는 날에 그 아이가 죽었다 그러나 다윗의 신하들은, 아이가 죽었다는 것을 다윗에게 알리기를 두려워하였다 "어린 왕자가 살아 계실 때에도 우리가 드리는 말씀을 듣지 않으셨는데, 왕자께서 돌아가셨다는 소식을, 우리가 어떻게 전하여 드릴 수 있겠소? 그런 소식은 임금님의 몸에 해로울지도 모르오"

( On the seventh day the child died. David's servants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they thought, "While the child was still living, we spoke to David but he would not listen to us. How can we tell him the child is dead? He may do something desperate.")

 

12:19 그러나 다윗은, 신하들이 서로 수군거리는 것을 보고서, 아이가 죽은 줄 짐작하고, 신하들에게 "아이가 죽었느냐?" 하고 물었다 신하들이 대답하였다 "돌아가셨습니다"

( David noticed that his servants were whispering among themselves and he realized the child was dead. "Is the child dead?" he asked. "Yes," they replied, "he is dead.")

 

12:20 그러자 다윗은 땅바닥에서 일어나서, 목욕을 하고, 몸에 기름을 바르고, 옷을 갈아 입은 뒤에, 성전으로 들어가서 주님께 경배하였다 그는 왕궁으로 돌아오자, 음식을 차려오게 하여서 먹었다

( Then David got up from the ground. After he had washed, put on lotions and changed his clothes, he went into the house of the LORD and worshiped. Then he went to his own house, and at his request they served him food, and he ate.)

 

12:21 신하들이 다윗에게 물었다 "왕자가 살아 계실 때에는 임금님께서 식음을 전폐하고 슬퍼하시더니, 이제 왕자가 돌아가시자 임금님께서 일어나셔서 음식을 드시니, 이것이 어떻게 된 일이십니까?"

( His servants asked him, "Why are you acting this way? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept, but now that the child is dead, you get up and eat!")

 

12:22 다윗이 대답하였다 "아이가 살아 있을 때에 내가 금식하면서 운 것은, 혹시 주님께서 나를 불쌍히 여겨 주셔서, 그 아이를 살려 주실지도 모른다고 생각하였기 때문이오

( He answered, "While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. I thought, 'Who knows? The LORD may be gracious to me and let the child live.')

 

12:23 그러나 이제는 그 아이가 죽었는데, 무엇 때문에 내가 계속 금식하겠소? 내가 그를 다시 돌아오게 할 수가 있겠소? 나는 그에게로 갈 수 있지만, 그는 나에게로 올 수가 없소"

( But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.")

 

솔로몬이 태여나다

 

12:24 그 뒤에 다윗이 자기의 아내 밧세바를 위로하고, 동침하니, 그 여인이 아들을 낳았다 다윗이 그의 이름을 솔로몬이라고 하였다 주님께서도 그 아이를 사랑해 주셔서,

( Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and he went to her and lay with her. She gave birth to a son, and they named him Solomon. The LORD loved him;)

 

12:25 예언자 나단을 보내셔서, 주님께서 사랑하신다는 뜻으로, 그의 이름을 여디디야라고 부르게 하셨다

( and because the LORD loved him, he sent word through Nathan the prophet to name him Jedidiah.)

 

다윗이 랍바를 점령하다;대상20:1-3

 

12:26 요압이 암몬 사람의 도성 랍바를 쳐서, 그 왕의 도성을 점령하고서,

( Meanwhile Joab fought against Rabbah of the Ammonites and captured the royal citadel.)

 

12:27 다윗에게 전령들을 보내어서, 이렇게 말하였다 "제가 랍바를 치고, 도성으로 들어가는 급수지역을 점령하였습니다

( Joab then sent messengers to David, saying, "I have fought against Rabbah and taken its water supply.)

 

12:28 이제 임금님께서 남은 군인들을 불러모아서, 이 도성을 공격할 진을 치시고, 이 도성을 직접 점령하시기 바랍니다 제가 이 도성을 점령하기보다는, 임금님께서 이 도성을 점령하셔서, 임금님의 이름이 승리자의 이름으로 기록되게 해주시기 바랍니다"

( Now muster the rest of the troops and besiege the city and capture it. Otherwise I will take the city, and it will be named after me.")

 

12:29 다윗이 모든 군인을 불러모으고, 랍바로 가서, 그 도성을 쳐서 점령하였다

( So David mustered the entire army and went to Rabbah, and attacked and captured it.)

 

12:30 그는 암몬 왕의 머리에서 금관을 벗겨 왔는데, 그 무게가 금 한 달란트나 나갔고, 금관에는 보석이 박혀 있었다 다윗은 그 금관을 가져다가, 자기가 썼다 다윗은 그 도성에서 아주 많은 전리품을 약탈하였으며,

( He took the crown from the head of their king--its weight was a talent of gold, and it was set with precious stones--and it was placed on David's head. He took a great quantity of plunder from the city)

 

12:31 그 도성에 사는 백성도 끌어다가, 톱질과 곡괭이질과 도끼질과 벽돌 굽는 일을 시켰다 그는 암몬 사람의 모든 성읍에 이와 똑같이 한 뒤에, 모든 군인을 거느리고 예루살렘으로 돌아왔다

( and brought out the people who were there, consigning them to labor with saws and with iron picks and axes, and he made them work at brickmaking. He did this to all the Ammonite towns. Then David and his entire army returned to Jerusalem.)

사무엘하 13장

 

암논과 다말

 

13:1 그 뒤에 이런 일이 있었다 다윗의 아들 압살롬에게는 아직 결혼하지 않은 아름다운 누이가 있는데, 이름은 다말이었다 그런데 다윗의 다른 아들 암논이 그를 사랑하였다

( In the course of time, Amnon son of David fell in love with Tamar, the beautiful sister of Absalom son of David.)

 

13:2 암논은 자기의 누이 다말을 사랑하였으나, 처녀이므로 어찌할 수 없는 줄을 알고, 병이 나고 말았다

( Amnon became frustrated to the point of illness on account of his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin, and it seemed impossible for him to do anything to her.)

 

13:3 암논에게는 요나답이라고 하는 친구가 있었는데, 그는 다윗의 형 시므아의 아들이다 요나답은 아주 교활한 인물이었다

( Now Amnon had a friend named Jonadab son of Shimeah, David's brother. Jonadab was a very shrewd man.)

 

13:4 마침 그가 암논에게 물었다 "왕자님, 나날이 이렇게 안색이 수척해지시는데, 웬일이십니까? 나에게 그 까닭을 알려 주지 않으시겠습니까?" 암논이 그에게 말하였다 "나의 아우 압살롬의 누이 다말을, 내가 사랑하고 있기 때문이오"

( He asked Amnon, "Why do you, the king's son, look so haggard morning after morning? Won't you tell me?" Amnon said to him, "I'm in love with Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.")

 

13:5 그러자 요나답이 그에게 제안하였다 "왕자님은 침상에 누워서, 병이 든 체 하십시오 부왕께서 문병하러 오시면, 누이 다말을 보내 달라고 하십시오 누이 다말이 와서 왕자님이 드실 음식을 요리하게 하면 좋겠다고 말씀하십시오 다말이 왕자님 앞에서 음식을 요리하면, 왕자님이 그것을 보면서, 그의 손에서 직접 받아 먹고 싶다고 말씀드리십시오"

( "Go to bed and pretend to be ill," Jonadab said. "When your father comes to see you, say to him, 'I would like my sister Tamar to come and give me something to eat. Let her prepare the food in my sight so I may watch her and then eat it from her hand.'")

 

13:6 그리하여 암논이 침상에 누워서, 병든 체 하고 있으니, 과연 다윗 왕이 그를 문병하러 왔다 그 때에 암논이 왕에게 요청하였다 "누이 다말을 보내 주십시오 제가 보는 앞에서, 누이가 맛있는 빵 몇 개라도 만들어서, 그것을 저에게 직접 먹여 주게 하여 주십시오"

( So Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill. When the king came to see him, Amnon said to him, "I would like my sister Tamar to come and make some special bread in my sight, so I may eat from her hand.")

 

13:7 다윗은 다말의 집으로 사람을 보내어서 지시하였다 "어서 네 오라비 암논의 집으로 가서, 그에게 먹을 것을 좀 만들어 주어라"

( David sent word to Tamar at the palace: "Go to the house of your brother Amnon and prepare some food for him.")

 

13:8 다말이 자기의 오라버니 암논의 집으로 가서 보니, 그가 침상에 누워 있었다 다말이 밀가루를 가져다가, 이겨서, 그가 보는 앞에서 맛있는 빵 몇 개를 빚어, 잘 구웠다

( So Tamar went to the house of her brother Amnon, who was lying down. She took some dough, kneaded it, made the bread in his sight and baked it.)

 

13:9 그리고 다말이 냄비째 가져다가 암논 앞에서 그릇에 담아 주었으나, 암논은 먹을 생각은 하지 않고, 사람들을 다 밖으로 내보내라고 말하고는, 사람들이 모두 밖으로 나간 뒤에,

( Then she took the pan and served him the bread, but he refused to eat. "Send everyone out of here," Amnon said. So everyone left him.)

 

13:10 다말에게 말하였다 "그 빵을 이 침실로 가지고 들어와서, 네가 손수 나에게 먹여 다오" 그래서 다말은 손수 만든 빵을 들고, 자기의 오라버니 암논의 침실로 들어갔다

( Then Amnon said to Tamar, "Bring the food here into my bedroom so I may eat from your hand." And Tamar took the bread she had prepared and brought it to her brother Amnon in his bedroom.)

 

13:11 다말이 그에게 먹여 주려고 다가서니, 그는 다말을 끌어안고, 함께 눕자고 하였다

( But when she took it to him to eat, he grabbed her and said, "Come to bed with me, my sister.")

 

13:12 다말이 그에게 말하였다 "이렇게 하지 마십시오, 오라버니! 이스라엘에는 이러한 법이 없습니다 제발 나에게 욕을 보이지 마십시오 제발 이런 악한 일을 저지르지 말아 주십시오

( "Don't, my brother!" she said to him. "Don't force me. Such a thing should not be done in Israel! Don't do this wicked thing.)

 

13:13 오라버니가 나에게 이렇게 하시면, 내가 이런 수치를 당하고서, 어디로 갈 수 있겠습니까? 오라버니도 또한 이스라엘에서 아주 정신 빠진 사람들 가운데 하나와 똑같이 되고 말 것입니다 그러니 이제라도 제발 임금님께 말씀을 드려 보십시오 나를 오라버니에게 주기를 거절하지 않으실 것입니다"

( What about me? Where could I get rid of my disgrace? And what about you? You would be like one of the wicked fools in Israel. Please speak to the king; he will not keep me from being married to you.")

 

13:14 다말이 이렇게까지 말하는데도, 암논은 다말이 애원하는 소리를 들으려고 하지도 않고, 오히려 더 센 힘으로 그를 눕혀서, 억지로 욕을 보였다

( But he refused to listen to her, and since he was stronger than she, he raped her.)

 

13:15 그렇게 욕을 보이고 나니, 암논은 갑자기 다말이 몹시도 미워졌다 이제 미워하는 마음이 기왕에 사랑하던 사랑보다 더하였다 암논이 그에게, 당장 일어나 나가라고, 소리를 버럭 질렀다

( Then Amnon hated her with intense hatred. In fact, he hated her more than he had loved her. Amnon said to her, "Get up and get out!")

 

13:16 그러자 다말이 암논에게 말하였다 "그렇게 하시면 안 됩니다 이제 나를 쫓아내시면, 이 악은 방금 나에게 저지른 악보다 더 큽니다" 그런데도 암논은 다말의 말을 들으려고 하지도 않고,

( "No!" she said to him. "Sending me away would be a greater wrong than what you have already done to me." But he refused to listen to her.)

 

13:17 오히려 자기의 시중을 드는 하인을 불러다가 명령하였다 "어서 이 여자를 내 앞에서 내쫓고, 대문을 닫고서 빗장을 질러라"

( He called his personal servant and said, "Get this woman out of here and bolt the door after her.")

 

13:18 암논의 하인은 공주를 바깥으로 끌어내고, 대문을 닫고서, 빗장을 질렀다 그 때에 다말은 소매에 색동으로 수를 놓은 긴 옷을 입고 있었다 공주들은 시집가기 전에는 옷을 그렇게 입었다

( So his servant put her out and bolted the door after her. She was wearing a richly ornamented robe, for this was the kind of garment the virgin daughters of the king wore.)

 

13:19 이제 다말은 머리에 재를 끼얹고, 입고 있는 색동 소매 긴 옷도 찢고, 손으로 얼굴을 감싼 채로, 목을 놓아 울면서 떠나갔다

( Tamar put ashes on her head and tore the ornamented robe she was wearing. She put her hand on her head and went away, weeping aloud as she went.)

 

13:20 다말의 오라버니 압살롬이 다말을 보고 물었다 "네 오라비 암논이 너를 건드렸지? 얘야, 암논도 네 오라비이니, 지금은 아무 말도 입 밖에 내지 말아라 이 일로 너무 근심하지 말아라" 그리하여 다말은 그의 오라버니 압살롬의 집에서 처량하게 지냈다

( Her brother Absalom said to her, "Has that Amnon, your brother, been with you? Be quiet now, my sister; he is your brother. Don't take this thing to heart." And Tamar lived in her brother Absalom's house, a desolate woman.)

 

13:21 다윗 왕은 이 이야기를 모두 듣고서, 몹시 분개하였다

( When King David heard all this, he was furious.)

 

13:22 압살롬은 암논이 누이 다말에게 욕을 보인 일로 그가 미웠으므로, 암논에게 옳다거나 그르다는 말을 전혀 하지 않았다

( Absalom never said a word to Amnon, either good or bad; he hated Amnon because he had disgraced his sister Tamar.)

 

압살롬의 복수

 

13:23 두 해가 지난 어느 날, 압살롬은 에브라임 근처의 바알하솔에서 양털을 깎고 있었다 이 때에 압살롬이 왕자들을 모두 초대하였다

( Two years later, when Absalom's sheepshearers were at Baal Hazor near the border of Ephraim, he invited all the king's sons to come there.)

 

13:24 압살롬은 다윗 왕에게도 찾아가서 말하였다 "임금님, 제가 이번에 양털을 깎게 되었으니, 임금님도 신하들을 거느리시고, 이 아들과 함께 내려가셔서, 잔치에 참석해 주시기를 바랍니다"

( Absalom went to the king and said, "Your servant has had shearers come. Will the king and his officials please join me?")

 

13:25 왕이 압살롬에게 말하였다 "아니다, 내 아들아 우리가 모두 따라가면, 너에게 짐이 될 터이니, 우리는 가지 않으마" 압살롬이 계속하여 간청을 하였지만, 왕은 함께 가고 싶지 않아서, 복을 빌어 주기만 하였다

( "No, my son," the king replied. "All of us should not go; we would only be a burden to you." Although Absalom urged him, he still refused to go, but gave him his blessing.)

 

13:26 그러자 압살롬이 말하였다 "그러면 맏형 암논이라도 우리와 함께 가도록 허락하여 주시기 바랍니다" 왕이 그에게 물었다 "암논이 너와 함께 가야 할 이유가 무엇이냐?"

( Then Absalom said, "If not, please let my brother Amnon come with us." The king asked him, "Why should he go with you?")

 

13:27 그래도 압살롬이 계속하여 왕에게 간청하니, 왕은 암논과 다른 왕자들이 모두 그와 함께 가도 좋다고 허락하였다

( But Absalom urged him, so he sent with him Amnon and the rest of the king's sons.)

 

13:28 압살롬은 이미 자기의 부하들에게 명령을 내렸다 "암논이 술을 마시고 기분이 좋아질 때를 잘 지켜 보아라 그러다가 내가 너희에게 암논을 쳐죽이라고 하면, 너희는 겁내지 말고 그를 죽여라 내가 너희에게 직접 명령하는 것이니, 책임은 내가 진다 다만, 너희는 용감하게, 주저하지 말고 해치워라!"

( Absalom ordered his men, "Listen! When Amnon is in high spirits from drinking wine and I say to you, 'Strike Amnon down,' then kill him. Don't be afraid. Have not I given you this order? Be strong and brave.")

 

13:29 마침내 압살롬의 부하들은 압살롬의 명령을 따라서, 하라는 그대로 암논에게 하였다 그러자 다른 왕자들은 저마다 자기 노새를 타고 달아났다

( So Absalom's men did to Amnon what Absalom had ordered. Then all the king's sons got up, mounted their mules and fled.)

 

13:30 그들이 아직도 길에서 달아나는 동안에, 다윗에게는, 압살롬이 왕자들을 모조리 쳐죽여서, 한 사람도 살아 남지 못하였다는 소식이 들어갔다

( While they were on their way, the report came to David: "Absalom has struck down all the king's sons; not one of them is left.")

 

13:31 왕은 자리에서 일어나서, 입고 있는 옷을 찢고 땅바닥에 누워 버렸고, 그를 모시고 서 있는 신하들도 다 옷을 찢었다

( The king stood up, tore his clothes and lay down on the ground; and all his servants stood by with their clothes torn.)

 

13:32 그 때에 다윗의 형 시므아의 아들인 요나답이 나서서 말하였다 "임금님, 젊은 왕자들이 모두 살해되지는 않았습니다 암논 한 사람만 죽었습니다 암논이 압살롬의 누이 다말을 욕보인 날부터, 압살롬은 그런 결심을 하고 있었습니다

( But Jonadab son of Shimeah, David's brother, said, "My lord should not think that they killed all the princes; only Amnon is dead. This has been Absalom's expressed intention ever since the day Amnon raped his sister Tamar.)

 

13:33 그러니 이제 높으신 임금님께서는, 왕자들이 다 죽었다고 하는 뜬소문을 듣고 상심하지 마십시오 암논 한 사람만 죽었을 따름입니다"

( My lord the king should not be concerned about the report that all the king's sons are dead. Only Amnon is dead.")

 

13:34 그 사이에 압살롬은 도망쳐 버렸다 바로 그 때에 예루살렘의 보초병 하나가, 호로나임 쪽에서 많은 사람이 언덕을 타고 내려오는 것을 보고서, 왕에게 알렸다

( Meanwhile, Absalom had fled. Now the man standing watch looked up and saw many people on the road west of him, coming down the side of the hill. The watchman went and told the king, "I see men in the direction of Horonaim, on the side of the hill.")

 

13:35 그러자 요나답이 왕에게 아뢰었다 "틀림 없습니다 왕자님들이 돌아오시는 것입니다 이 종이 이미 말씀드리지 않았습니까?"

( Jonadab said to the king, "See, the king's sons are here; it has happened just as your servant said.")

 

13:36 요나답이 말을 막 마치는데, 왕자들이 들어와서, 목을 놓아 울기 시작하였다 왕도 통곡하고, 모든 신하도 통곡하였다

( As he finished speaking, the king's sons came in, wailing loudly. The king, too, and all his servants wept very bitterly.)

 

13:37 압살롬은 도망하여 그술 왕 암미훗의 아들 달매에게로 갔고, 다윗은 죽은 아들 암논 때문에 슬픈 나날을 보냈다

( Absalom fled and went to Talmai son of Ammihud, the king of Geshur. But King David mourned for his son every day.)

 

13:38 압살롬은 도망한 뒤에 그술로 가서, 그 곳에 세 해 동안 머물러 있었다

( After Absalom fled and went to Geshur, he stayed there three years.)

 

13:39 그러는 사이에 다윗 왕은 암논을 잃었을 때에 받은 충격도 서서히 가라앉았고, 오히려 압살롬을 보고 싶어 하는 마음이 점점 간절해졌다

( And the spirit of the king longed to go to Absalom, for he was consoled concerning Amnon's death.)

사무엘하 14장

 

압살롬을 예루살렘으로 돌아오게 하다

 

14:1 왕의 마음이 압살롬에게로 쏠리는 것을, 스루야의 아들 요압이 알았다

( Joab son of Zeruiah knew that the king's heart longed for Absalom.)

 

14:2 요압이 드고아로 사람을 보내어, 거기에서 슬기로운 여인 한 사람을 데리고 와서 부탁하였다 "그대는 초상당한 여인처럼 행동하시오 몸에는 상복을 입고, 머리에는 기름도 바르지 말고, 이미 오랫동안, 죽은 사람을 애도한 여인처럼 꾸민 다음에,

( So Joab sent someone to Tekoa and had a wise woman brought from there. He said to her, "Pretend you are in mourning. Dress in mourning clothes, and don't use any cosmetic lotions. Act like a woman who has spent many days grieving for the dead.)

 

14:3 임금님 앞으로 나아가서, 내가 일러주는 대로 호소하시오" 요압은 그 여인에게, 할 말을 일러주었다

( Then go to the king and speak these words to him." And Joab put the words in her mouth.)

 

14:4 드고아에서 온 그 여인은 왕에게로 나아가서, 얼굴이 땅에 닿도록 엎드려서 절을 한 뒤에 "임금님, 저를 살려 주십시오" 하고 애원하였다

( When the woman from Tekoa went to the king, she fell with her face to the ground to pay him honor, and she said, "Help me, O king!")

 

14:5 왕이 여인에게 "무슨 일이냐?" 하고 물으니, 그 여인이 이렇게 하소연하였다 "저는 남편이 죽어서, 가련한 과부가 되었습니다

( The king asked her, "What is troubling you?" She said, "I am indeed a widow; my husband is dead.)

 

14:6 이 여종에게 두 아들이 있는데, 들에서 서로 싸우다가, 말리는 사람이 없으므로, 아들 하나가 다른 아들을 죽였습니다

( I your servant had two sons. They got into a fight with each other in the field, and no one was there to separate them. One struck the other and killed him.)

 

14:7 그런데 이제는 온 집안이 들고 일어나서, 이 종에게, 형제를 때려 죽인 그 아들을 내놓으라고 합니다 죽은 형제의 원수를 갚고, 살인자를 죽여서, 상속자마저 없애 버리겠다고 합니다 그들은 저에게 남아 있는 불씨마저도 꺼 버려서, 제 남편이 이 땅에 이름도 자손도 남기지 못하게 하려고 합니다"

( Now the whole clan has risen up against your servant; they say, 'Hand over the one who struck his brother down, so that we may put him to death for the life of his brother whom he killed; then we will get rid of the heir as well.' They would put out the only burning coal I have left, leaving my husband neither name nor descendant on the face of the earth.")

 

14:8 다 듣고 난 왕은 여인에게 말하였다 "이 문제를 두고서는, 내가 직접 명령을 내리겠으니, 집으로 돌아가거라"

( The king said to the woman, "Go home, and I will issue an order in your behalf.")

 

14:9 그러나 드고아 여인은 왕에게 아뢰었다 "우리의 높으신 임금님께서 무엇을 하시든지, 이 일에 있어서 허물은 저와 제 아버지의 집안에 있습니다 임금님과 왕실에는 아무런 허물이 없습니다"

( But the woman from Tekoa said to him, "My lord the king, let the blame rest on me and on my father's family, and let the king and his throne be without guilt.")

 

14:10 왕이 대답하였다 "누구든지 너를 위협하거든, 그를 나에게로 데리고 오너라 아무도 너를 괴롭히지 못하게 하겠다"

( The king replied, "If anyone says anything to you, bring him to me, and he will not bother you again.")

 

14:11 여인은 또 간청하였다 "그러면 임금님, 임금님께서 섬기시는 주 하나님께 간구하셔서, 저의 죽은 아들의 원수를 갚으려고 하는 집안 사람들이 살아 있는 저의 아들까지 죽이는 크나큰 범죄를 저지르지 못하게 막아 주시기를 바랍니다" 왕이 대답하였다 "주님께서 확실히 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하지만, 네 아들의 머리카락 하나도 땅에 떨어지지 않게 하겠다"

( She said, "Then let the king invoke the LORD his God to prevent the avenger of blood from adding to the destruction, so that my son will not be destroyed." "As surely as the LORD lives," he said, "not one hair of your son's head will fall to the ground.")

 

14:12 그 여인이 또 간청하였다 "이 종이 높으신 임금님께 한 말씀만 더 드리도록 허락하여 주시기 바랍니다" 왕이 그렇게 하라고 하니,

( Then the woman said, "Let your servant speak a word to my lord the king." "Speak," he replied.)

 

14:13 그 여인이 이렇게 말하였다 "어찌하여 임금님께서는 하나님의 백성에게 그처럼 그릇된 일을 하셨습니까? 임금님께서는 임금님의 친아들인 왕자님이 이 나라로 돌아오는 것을 허락하지 않으셨습니다 이러한 처사는 지금까지 이 종에게 말씀하신 것과는 다릅니다 임금님께서는 그렇게 말씀만 하시고, 왕자님을 부르지 않으셨으니, 이것은 잘못된 일이라고 생각합니다

( The woman said, "Why then have you devised a thing like this against the people of God? When the king says this, does he not convict himself, for the king has not brought back his banished son?)

 

14:14 우리는 다 죽습니다 땅에 쏟으면, 다시 담을 수 없는 물과 같습니다 그러나 하나님은 생명을 빼앗지 않으시고 방책을 베푸셔서 비록 내어쫓긴 자라 하더라도 어떻게 해서든지 하나님께 버림받은 자가 되지 않게 하십니다

( Like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be recovered, so we must die. But God does not take away life; instead, he devises ways so that a banished person may not remain estranged from him.)

 

14:15 높으신 임금님, 제가 지금 임금님을 찾아 뵙고서 이런 말씀을 드리게 된 까닭은, 제가 친척들의 위협을 받으면서, 이 문제를 임금님께 아뢰면, 임금님께서 제가 간구하는 바를 들어 주실 것이라는 확신이 섰기 때문입니다

( "And now I have come to say this to my lord the king because the people have made me afraid. Your servant thought, 'I will speak to the king; perhaps he will do what his servant asks.)

 

14:16 저의 집안 사람들이 저와 저의 아들을 죽이려 하고, 하나님이 주신 이 땅에서 끊어 버리려고 하지마는, 임금님께서 저의 사정을 들어서 아시면, 구원하여 주실 것이라고 생각하였습니다

( Perhaps the king will agree to deliver his servant from the hand of the man who is trying to cut off both me and my son from the inheritance God gave us.')

 

14:17 이 종은 또, 높으신 임금님께서는 말씀으로 저를 안심시켜 주실 것이라고 믿었습니다 임금님은 바로 하나님의 천사와 같은 분이시니까, 저의 호소를 들으시고 선악을 가려내실 것이라고도 생각하였습니다 임금님이 섬기시는 주 하나님께서 늘 임금님과 함께 계시기를 바랍니다"

( "And now your servant says, 'May the word of my lord the king bring me rest, for my lord the king is like an angel of God in discerning good and evil. May the LORD your God be with you.'")

 

14:18 마침내 왕이 그 여인에게 물었다 "너는 내가 묻는 말을, 내 앞에서 조금도 숨기지 말고 대답하여라" 그 여인이 대답하였다 "높으신 임금님의 분부대로 하겠습니다"

( Then the king said to the woman, "Do not keep from me the answer to what I am going to ask you." "Let my lord the king speak," the woman said.)

 

14:19 왕이 물었다 "너에게 이 모든 일을 시킨 사람은 바로 요압이렷다?" 여인이 대답하였다 "높으신 임금님, 임금님께서 확실히 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하지만, 높으신 임금님께서 무슨 말씀을 하시면, 오른쪽으로든 왼쪽으로든, 피할 길이 없습니다 저에게 이런 일을 시킨 사람은 임금님의 신하 요압입니다 그가 이 모든 말을 이 종의 입에 담아 주었습니다

( The king asked, "Isn't the hand of Joab with you in all this?" The woman answered, "As surely as you live, my lord the king, no one can turn to the right or to the left from anything my lord the king says. Yes, it was your servant Joab who instructed me to do this and who put all these words into the mouth of your servant.)

 

14:20 왕자님의 일을 잘 되게 하여 보려고, 임금님의 신하 요압이 이런 일을 꾸민 것은 사실입니다 그러나 임금님께서는 하나님의 천사처럼 슬기로우시므로, 일어난 모든 일을 다 아실 줄 압니다"

( Your servant Joab did this to change the present situation. My lord has wisdom like that of an angel of God--he knows everything that happens in the land.")

 

14:21 그러자 왕이 직접 요압에게 명령을 내렸다 "보시오, 내가 장군의 뜻대로 하기로 결심하였으니, 가서, 그 어린 아이 압살롬을 데려오시오"

( The king said to Joab, "Very well, I will do it. Go, bring back the young man Absalom.")

 

14:22 요압이 얼굴을 땅에 대고 절을 하면서 말하였다 "하나님께서 임금님께 복을 베푸시기를 빕니다 높으신 임금님이 이 종의 간청을 이렇게 들어 주시니, 이 종이 임금님의 총애를 입은 줄을 오늘에야 알았습니다"

( Joab fell with his face to the ground to pay him honor, and he blessed the king. Joab said, "Today your servant knows that he has found favor in your eyes, my lord the king, because the king has granted his servant's request.")

 

14:23 그리고는 요압이 일어나 그술로 가서, 압살롬을 데리고 예루살렘으로 왔다

( Then Joab went to Geshur and brought Absalom back to Jerusalem.)

 

14:24 그러나 왕의 지시는 단호하였다 "그를 집으로 돌아가게 하여라 그러나 내 얼굴은 볼 수 없다" 그리하여 압살롬은 아버지에게 인사도 하지 못하고, 자기 집으로 돌아갔다

( But the king said, "He must go to his own house; he must not see my face." So Absalom went to his own house and did not see the face of the king.)

 

다윗과 압살롬이 화해하다

 

14:25 온 이스라엘에, 압살롬처럼, 머리끝에서 발끝까지 흠 잡을 데가 하나도 없는 미남은 없다고, 칭찬이 자자하였다

( In all Israel there was not a man so highly praised for his handsome appearance as Absalom. From the top of his head to the sole of his foot there was no blemish in him.)

 

14:26 그는 머리 숱이 많아 무거워지면, 해마다 연말에 한 번씩 머리를 깎았는데, 머리를 깎고 나서 그 머리카락을 달아 보면, 왕궁 저울로 이백 세겔이나 되었다

( Whenever he cut the hair of his head--he used to cut his hair from time to time when it became too heavy for him--he would weigh it, and its weight was two hundred shekels by the royal standard.)

 

14:27 압살롬에게는 아들 셋과 딸 하나가 있었다 그 딸의 이름은 다말인데, 생김새가 아주 예뻤다

( Three sons and a daughter were born to Absalom. The daughter's name was Tamar, and she became a beautiful woman.)

 

14:28 압살롬은 예루살렘으로 돌아와서 두 해를 지냈는데도, 왕의 얼굴을 한 번도 뵙지 못하였다

( Absalom lived two years in Jerusalem without seeing the king's face.)

 

14:29 압살롬이 요압을 왕에게 보내 보려고 요압에게 사람을 보냈으나, 요압은 압살롬을 방문하지 않았다 두 번째로 다시 사람을 보냈으나, 그는 여전히 오지 않았다

( Then Absalom sent for Joab in order to send him to the king, but Joab refused to come to him. So he sent a second time, but he refused to come.)

 

14:30 그러자 압살롬이 자기의 종들을 불러다가 지시하였다 "내 밭 곁에 요압의 밭이 있다 그가 거기에 보리 농사를 지어 놓았으니, 너희는 가서, 그 밭에다가 불을 질러라" 그래서 압살롬의 종들이 그 밭에 불을 질렀다

( Then he said to his servants, "Look, Joab's field is next to mine, and he has barley there. Go and set it on fire." So Absalom's servants set the field on fire.)

 

14:31 그러자 요압이 압살롬의 집으로 찾아가서 따졌다 "어찌하여 종들을 시켜, 나의 밭에다가 불을 질렀습니까?"

( Then Joab did go to Absalom's house and he said to him, "Why have your servants set my field on fire?")

 

14:32 압살롬이 요압에게 대답하였다 "이것 보시오 나는 이미 장군에게 사람을 보내어서, 좀 와 달라고 부탁을 하였소 장군을 임금님께 보내어서, 나를 왜 그술에서 돌아오게 하였는지, 여쭈어 보고 싶었소 여기에서 이렇게 살 바에야, 차라리 그 곳에 그대로 있는 것이 더욱 좋을 뻔 하였소 이제 나는 임금님의 얼굴을 뵙고 싶소 나에게 아직도 무슨 죄가 남아 있으면, 차라리 죽여 달라고 하더라고 말씀을 드려 주시오"

( So Joab went to the king and told him this. Then the king summoned Absalom, and he came in and bowed down with his face to the ground before the king. And the king kissed Absalom.)
