사도행전 16장

 

바울이 디모데를 데리고 가다

 

16:1 바울은 더베와 루스드라에도 갔다 거기에는 디모데라는 제자가 있었는데, 그의 어머니는 신앙이 돈독한 유대 여자이고, 아버지는 그리스 사람이었다

( He came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was a Jewess and a believer, but whose father was a Greek.)

 

16:2 디모데는 루스드라와 이고니온에 있는 신도들에게 호평받는 사람이었다

( The brothers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.)

 

16:3 바울은 디모데가 자기와 함께 가기를 바랐다 그래서 바울은 그 지방에 사는 유대 사람들을 생각해서, 디모데를 데려다가 할례를 행하였다 그것은, 디모데의 아버지가 그리스 사람이라는 것을, 그들이 모두 알고 있었기 때문이다

( Paul wanted to take him along on the journey, so he circumcised him because of the Jews who lived in that area, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.)

 

16:4 바울 일행은 여러 도시를 두루 다니면서, 예루살렘에 있는 사도들과 장로들이 정한 규정들을 사람들에게 전해 주어서 지키게 하였다

( As they traveled from town to town, they delivered the decisions reached by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to obey.)

 

16:5 교회들은, 그 믿음이 점점 더 튼튼해지고, 그 수가 나날이 늘어갔다

( So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.)

 

바울이 환상을 보다

 

16:6 아시아에서 말씀을 전하는 것을 성령이 막으시므로, 그들은 브루기아와 갈라디아 지방을 거쳐가서,

( Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia.)

 

16:7 무시아 가까이 이르러서, 비두니아로 들어가려고 하였으나, 예수의 영이 그것을 허락하지 않으셨다

( When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.)

 

16:8 그래서 그들은 무시아를 지나서 드로아에 이르렀다

( So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas.)

 

16:9 여기서 밤에 바울에게 환상이 나타났는데, 마케도니아 사람 하나가 바울 앞에 서서 "마케도니아로 건너와서, 우리를 도와주십시오" 하고 간청하였다

( During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, "Come over to Macedonia and help us.")

 

16:10 그 환상을 바울이 본 뒤에, 우리는 곧 마케도니아로 건너가려고 하였다 우리는, 마케도니아 사람들에게 복음을 전하기 위하여, 하나님께서 우리를 부르신 것이라고 확신하였기 때문이다

( After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.)

 

루디아가 믿다

 

16:11 우리는 드로아에서 배로 떠나서, 사모드라게로 직행하여, 이튿날 네압볼리로 갔고,

( From Troas we put out to sea and sailed straight for Samothrace, and the next day on to Neapolis.)

 

16:12 거기에서 빌립보에 이르렀다 빌립보는 마케도니아 지방에서 으뜸가는 도시요, 로마 식민지였다 우리는 이 도시에서 며칠 동안 묵었는데,

( From there we traveled to Philippi, a Roman colony and the leading city of that district of Macedonia. And we stayed there several days.)

 

16:13 안식일에 성문 밖 강가로 나가서, 유대 사람이 기도하는 처소가 있음직한 곳을 찾아갔다 우리는 거기에 앉아서, 모여든 여자들에게 말하였다

( On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the river, where we expected to find a place of prayer. We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there.)

 

16:14 그들 가운데 루디아라는 여자가 있었는데, 그는 자색 옷감 장수로서, 두아디라 출신이요, 하나님을 공경하는 사람이었다 주님께서 그 여자의 마음을 여셨으므로, 그는 바울의 말을 귀담아 들었다

( One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message.)

 

16:15 그 여자가 집안 식구와 함께 세례를 받고나서 "나를 주님의 신도로 여기시면, 우리 집에 오셔서 묵으십시오" 하고 간청하였다 그리고 우리를 강권해서, 자기 집으로 데리고 갔다

( When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. "If you consider me a believer in the Lord," she said, "come and stay at my house." And she persuaded us.)

 

바울과 실라가 갇히다

 

16:16 어느 날 우리가 기도하는 곳으로 가다가, 귀신 들려 점을 치는 여종 한 사람을 만났는데, 그는 점을 쳐서, 주인들에게 큰 돈벌이를 해주는 여자였다

( Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling.)

 

16:17 이 여자가 바울과 우리를 따라오면서, 큰 소리로 "이 사람들은 지극히 높으신 하나님의 종들인데, 여러분에게 구원의 길을 전하고 있다" 하고 외쳤다

( This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.")

 

16:18 그 여자가 여러 날을 두고 이렇게 하므로, 바울이 귀찮게 여기고 돌아서서, 그 귀신에게 "내가 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 네게 명하니, 이 여자에게서 나오라" 하고 말하니, 바로 그 순간에 귀신이 나왔다

( She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, "In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!" At that moment the spirit left her.)

 

16:19 그 여자의 주인들은, 자기들의 돈벌이 희망이 끊어진 것을 보고, 바울과 실라를 붙잡아서, 광장으로 관원들에게로 끌고 갔다

( When the owners of the slave girl realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities.)

 

16:20 그리고 그들을 치안관들 앞에 세워 놓고서 "이 사람들은 유대 사람들인데, 우리 도시를 소란하게 하고 있습니다

( They brought them before the magistrates and said, "These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar)

 

16:21 이 사람들은 로마 시민인 우리로서는, 받아들일 수도 없고 실천할 수도 없는, 부당한 풍속을 선전하고 있습니다" 하고 말하였다

( by advocating customs unlawful for us Romans to accept or practice.")

 

16:22 무리가 그들을 공격하는 데에 합세하였다 그러자 치안관들은 바울과 실라의 옷을 찢어 벗기고, 그들을 매로 치라고 명령하였다

( The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten.)

 

16:23 그래서 이 명령을 받은 부하들이 그들에게 매질을 많이 한 뒤에, 감옥에 가두고, 간수에게 그들을 단단히 지키라고 명령하였다

( After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully.)

 

16:24 간수는 이런 명령을 받고, 그들을 깊은 감방에 가두고서, 그들의 발에 차꼬를 단단히 채웠다

( Upon receiving such orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.)

 

16:25 한밤쯤 되어서 바울과 실라가 기도하면서 하나님을 찬양하는 노래를 부르고 있는데, 죄수들이 듣고 있었다

( About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.)

 

16:26 그 때에 갑자기 큰 지진이 일어나서, 감옥의 터전이 흔들렸다 그리고 곧 문이 모두 열리고, 모든 죄수의 수갑이며 차꼬가 풀렸다

( Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody's chains came loose.)

 

16:27 간수가 잠에서 깨어서, 옥문들이 열린 것을 보고는, 죄수들이 달아난 줄로 알고, 검을 빼어서 자결하려고 하였다

( The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped.)

 

16:28 그 때에 바울이 큰소리로 "그대는 스스로 몸을 해치지 마시오 우리가 모두 그대로 있소" 하고 외쳤다

( But Paul shouted, "Don't harm yourself! We are all here!")

 

16:29 간수는 등불을 달라고 해서, 들고 뛰어 들어가, 무서워 떨면서, 바울과 실라 앞에 엎드렸다

( The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas.)

 

16:30 그리고 그들을 바깥으로 데리고 나가서 물었다 "두 분 사도님, 내가 어떻게 해야 구원을 얻을 수 있습니까?"

( He then brought them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?")

 

16:31 그들이 대답하였다 "주 예수를 믿으시오 그리하면 그대와 그대의 집안이 구원을 얻을 것입니다"

( They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household.")

 

16:32 그리고 하나님의 말씀을 간수와 그의 집에 있는 모든 사람에게 들려주었다

( Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house.)

 

16:33 그 밤 그 시각에, 간수는 그들을 데려다가, 상처를 씻어 주었다 그리고 그와 온 가족이 그 자리에서 세례를 받았다

( At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his family were baptized.)

 

16:34 간수는 그들을 자기 집으로 데려다가 음식을 대접하였다 그는 하나님을 믿게 된 것을 온 가족과 함께 기뻐하였다

( The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God--he and his whole family.)

 

16:35 날이 새니, 치안관들은 부하들을 보내어, 그 두 사람을 놓아주라고 명령하였다

( When it was daylight, the magistrates sent their officers to the jailer with the order: "Release those men.")

 

16:36 그래서 간수는 이 말을 바울에게 전하였다 "치안관들이 사도님들을 놓아주라고 사람을 보냈습니다 그러니 이제 나오셔서, 평안히 가십시오"

( The jailer told Paul, "The magistrates have ordered that you and Silas be released. Now you can leave. Go in peace.")

 

16:37 바울이 그들에게 말하였다 "치안관들이 로마 시민인 우리를 유죄 판결도 내리지 않은 채 공공연히 때리고 감옥에 가두었다가, 이제 와서, 슬그머니 우리를 내놓겠다는 겁니까? 안됩니다 그들이 직접 와서 우리를 석방해야 합니다"

( But Paul said to the officers: "They beat us publicly without a trial, even though we are Roman citizens, and threw us into prison. And now do they want to get rid of us quietly? No! Let them come themselves and escort us out.")

 

16:38 관리들이 이 말을 치안관들에게 전하니, 그들은 바울과 실라가 로마 시민이라는 말을 듣고서 두려워하였다

( The officers reported this to the magistrates, and when they heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens, they were alarmed.)

 

16:39 그래서 치안관들은 가서 그들을 위로하고, 데리고 나가서, 그 도시에서 떠나 달라고 청하였다

( They came to appease them and escorted them from the prison, requesting them to leave the city.)

 

16:40 두 사람은 감옥에서 나와서 루디아의 집으로 갔다 그리고 거기서 신도들을 만나 그들을 격려하고 떠났다

( After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to Lydia's house, where they met with the brothers and encouraged them. Then they left.)

사도행전 17장

 

바울이 데살로니가에서 전도하다

 

17:1 바울 일행은 암비볼리와 아볼로니아를 거쳐서, 데살로니가에 이르렀다 거기에는, 유대 사람의 회당이 있었다

( When they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue.)

 

17:2 바울은 자기 관례대로 회당으로 그들을 찾아가서, 세 안식일에 걸쳐 성경을 가지고 그들과 토론하였다

( As his custom was, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures,)

 

17:3 그는, 그리스도께서 반드시 고난을 당하시고 죽은 사람들 가운데서 살아나셔야 한다는 것을 해석하고 증명하면서 "내가 여러분에게 전하고 있는 예수가 바로 그 그리스도이십니다" 하고 말하였다

( explaining and proving that the Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead. "This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Christ," he said.)

 

17:4 그들 가운데 몇몇 사람이 승복하여 바울과 실라를 따르고, 또 많은 경건한 그리스 사람들과 적지 않은 귀부인들이 그렇게 하였다

( Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and not a few prominent women.)

 

17:5 그러나 유대 사람들은 시기하여, 거리의 불량배들을 끌어 모아다가 패거리를 지어서 시내에 소요를 일으키고 야손의 집을 습격하였다 그리고 바울 일행을 끌어다가 군중 앞에 세우려고 찾았다

( But the Jews were jealous; so they rounded up some bad characters from the marketplace, formed a mob and started a riot in the city. They rushed to Jason's house in search of Paul and Silas in order to bring them out to the crowd.)

 

17:6 그러나 그들을 찾지 못하고, 야손과 신도 몇 사람을 시청 관원들에게 끌고 가서, 큰 소리로 외쳤다 "세상을 소란하게 한 그 사람들이 여기에도 나타났습니다

( But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some other brothers before the city officials, shouting: "These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here,)

 

17:7 그런데 야손이 그들을 영접하였습니다 그 사람들은 모두 예수라는 또 다른 왕이 있다고 말하면서, 황제의 명령을 거슬러 행동을 합니다"

( and Jason has welcomed them into his house. They are all defying Caesar's decrees, saying that there is another king, one called Jesus.")

 

17:8 군중과 시청 관원들이 이 말을 듣고 소동하였다

( When they heard this, the crowd and the city officials were thrown into turmoil.)

 

17:9 그러나 시청 관원들은 야손과 그 밖의 사람들에게서 보석금을 받고 놓아주었다

( Then they made Jason and the others post bond and let them go.)

 

바울이 베뢰아에서 전도하다

 

17:10 신도들은 곧 바로 그날 밤으로 바울과 실라를 베뢰아로 보냈다 두 사람은 거기에 이르러서, 유대 사람의 회당으로 들어갔다

( As soon as it was night, the brothers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue.)

 

17:11 베뢰아의 유대 사람들은 데살로니가의 유대 사람들보다 더 고상한 사람들이어서, 아주 기꺼이 말씀을 받아들이고, 그것이 사실인지 알아보려고, 날마다 성경을 상고하였다

( Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.)

 

17:12 따라서, 그들 가운데서 믿게 된 사람이 많이 생겼다 또 지체가 높은 그리스 여자들과 남자들 가운데서도 믿게 된 사람이 적지 않았다

( Many of the Jews believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.)

 

17:13 데살로니가의 유대 사람들은, 바울이 베뢰아에서도 하나님의 말씀을 전하는 것을 알고서, 거기에도 가서, 무리를 선동하여 소동을 벌였다

( When the Jews in Thessalonica learned that Paul was preaching the word of God at Berea, they went there too, agitating the crowds and stirring them up.)

 

17:14 그 때에 신도들이 곧바로 바울을 바닷가로 떠나보냈다 그러나 실라와 디모데는 거기에 그대로 남아 있었다

( The brothers immediately sent Paul to the coast, but Silas and Timothy stayed at Berea.)

 

17:15 바울을 안내하는 사람들이 바울을 아테네까지 인도하였다 그들은 바울에게서, 실라와 디모데가 할 수 있는 대로 빨리 그에게로 와야 한다는 지시를 받아 가지고, 베뢰아로 떠나갔다

( The men who escorted Paul brought him to Athens and then left with instructions for Silas and Timothy to join him as soon as possible.)

 

바울이 아테네에서 전도하다

 

17:16 바울은, 아테네에서 그들을 기다리고 있는 동안에, 온 도시가 우상으로 가득 차 있는 것을 보고 격분하였다

( While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols.)

 

17:17 그래서 바울은 회당에서는 유대 사람들과 이방 사람 예배자들과 더불어 토론을 벌였고, 또한 광장에서는 만나는 사람들과 날마다 토론하였다

( So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the God-fearing Greeks, as well as in the marketplace day by day with those who happened to be there.)

 

17:18 그리고 몇몇 에피쿠로스 철학자와 스토아 철학자도 바울과 논쟁하였는데, 그 가운데서 몇몇 사람은 "이 말쟁이가 도대체 무슨 소리를 하려는 것인가?" 하고 말하는가 하면, 또 몇몇 사람은 "그는 외국 신들을 선전하는 사람인 것 같다" 하고 말하기도 하였다 그것은 바울이 예수를 전하고 부활을 전하기 때문이었다

( A group of Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began to dispute with him. Some of them asked, "What is this babbler trying to say?" Others remarked, "He seems to be advocating foreign gods." They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.)

 

17:19 그들은 바울을 붙들어, 아레오바고 법정으로 데리고 가서 "당신이 말하는 이 새로운 교훈이 무엇인지 우리가 알 수 있겠소?

( Then they took him and brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus, where they said to him, "May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting?)

 

17:20 당신은 우리 귀에 생소한 것을 소개하고 있는데, 도대체 그것이 무엇인지 알고 싶소" 하고 말하였다

( You are bringing some strange ideas to our ears, and we want to know what they mean.")

 

17:21 모든 아테네 사람과 거기에 살고 있는 외국 사람들은, 무엇이나 새로운 것을 말하고 듣는 일로만 세월을 보내는 사람들이었다

( (All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing but talking about and listening to the latest ideas.))

 

17:22 바울이 아레오바고 법정 가운데 서서, 이렇게 말하였다 "아테네 시민 여러분, 내가 보기에, 여러분은 모든 면에서 종교심이 많습니다

( Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: "Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious.)

 

17:23 내가 다니면서, 여러분이 예배하는 대상들을 살펴보는 가운데, '알지 못하는 신에게'라고 새긴 제단도 보았습니다 그러므로 나는 여러분이 알지 못하고 예배하는 그 대상을 여러분에게 알려 드리겠습니다

( For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.)

 

17:24 우주와 그 안에 있는 모든 것을 창조하신 하나님께서는 하늘과 땅의 주님이시므로, 사람의 손으로 지은 신전에 거하지 않으십니다

( "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands.)

 

17:25 또 하나님께서는, 무슨 부족한 것이라도 있어서 사람의 손으로 섬김을 받으시는 것이 아닙니다 그분은 모든 사람에게 생명과 호흡과 모든 것을 주시는 분이십니다

( And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.)

 

17:26 그분은 인류의 모든 족속을 한 혈통으로 만드셔서, 온 땅 위에 살게 하셨으며, 그들이 살 시기와 거주할 지역의 경계를 정해 놓으셨습니다

( From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.)

 

17:27 이렇게 하신 것은, 사람으로 하여금 하나님을 찾게 하시려는 것입니다 사람이 하나님을 더듬어 찾기만 하면, 만날 수 있을 것입니다 사실, 하나님은 우리 각 사람에게서 멀리 떨어져 계시지 않습니다

( God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.)

 

17:28 여러분의 시인 가운데 어떤 이들도 '우리도 하나님의 자녀이다' 하고 말한 바와 같이, 우리는 하나님 안에서 살고, 움직이고, 존재하고 있습니다

( 'For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.')

 

17:29 그러므로 하나님의 자녀인 우리는 신을, 사람의 기술과 고안으로 금이나 은이나 돌에다가 새겨서 만든 것과 같다고 생각해서는 안됩니다

( "Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone--an image made by man's design and skill.)

 

17:30 하나님께서는 무지했던 시대에는 눈감아 주셨지만, 이제는 어디에서나 모든 사람에게 회개하라고 명하십니다

( In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.)

 

17:31 그것은, 하나님께서 세계를 정의로 심판하실 날을 정해 놓으셨기 때문입니다 하나님께서는 자기가 정하신 사람을 내세워서 심판하실 터인데, 그를 죽은 사람들 가운데서 살리심으로, 모든 사람에게 확신을 주셨습니다"

( For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead.")

 

17:32 그들이 죽은 사람들의 부활에 대해서 들었을 때에, 더러는 비웃었으나, 더러는 "이 일에 관해서 당신의 말을 다시 듣고 싶소" 하고 말하였다

( When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered, but others said, "We want to hear you again on this subject.")

 

17:33 이렇게 바울은 그들을 떠났다

( At that, Paul left the Council.)

 

17:34 그러나 몇몇 사람은 바울 편에 가담하여 신자가 되었다 그 가운데는 아레오바고 법정의 판사인 디오누시오도 있었고, 다마리라는 부인도 있었고, 그 밖에 다른 사람들도 있었다

( A few men became followers of Paul and believed. Among them was Dionysius, a member of the Areopagus, also a woman named Damaris, and a number of others.)

사도행전 18장

 

바울이 고린도에서 전도하다

 

18:1 그 뒤에 바울은 아테네를 떠나서, 고린도로 갔다

( After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth.)

 

18:2 거기서 그는 본도 태생인 아굴라라는 유대 사람을 만났다 아굴라는 글라우디오 황제가 모든 유대 사람에게 로마를 떠나라는 칙령을 내렸기 때문에, 얼마 전에 그의 아내 브리스길라와 함께 이탈리아에서 온 사람이다 바울은 그들을 찾아갔는데,

( There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them,)

 

18:3 생업이 서로 같으므로, 바울은 그들 집에 묵으면서 함께 일을 하였다 그들의 직업은 천막을 만드는 일이었다

( and because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them.)

 

18:4 바울은 안식일마다 회당에서 토론을 벌이고, 유대 사람과 그리스 사람을 설득하려 하였다

( Every Sabbath he reasoned in the synagogue, trying to persuade Jews and Greeks.)

 

18:5 실라와 디모데가 마케도니아에서 내려온 뒤로는, 바울은 오직 말씀을 전하는 일에만 힘을 쓰고, 예수가 그리스도이심을 유대 사람들에게 밝혀 증언하였다

( When Silas and Timothy came from Macedonia, Paul devoted himself exclusively to preaching, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.)

 

18:6 그러나 유대 사람들이 반대하고 비방하므로, 바울은 그의 옷에서 먼지를 떨고서, 그들에게 말하였다 "여러분이 멸망을 받으면, 그것은 오로지 여러분의 책임이지 나의 잘못은 아닙니다 이제 나는 이방 사람에게로 가겠습니다"

( But when the Jews opposed Paul and became abusive, he shook out his clothes in protest and said to them, "Your blood be on your own heads! I am clear of my responsibility. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.")

 

18:7 바울은 거기를 떠나서, 디디오 유스도라는 사람의 집으로 갔는데, 그는 이방 사람으로서, 하나님을 공경하는 사람이고, 그의 집은 바로 회당 옆에 있었다

( Then Paul left the synagogue and went next door to the house of Titius Justus, a worshiper of God.)

 

18:8 회당장인 그리스보는 그의 온 집안 식구와 함께 주님을 믿는 신자가 되었다 그리고 고린도 사람 가운데서도 많은 사람이 바울의 말을 듣고서, 믿고 세례를 받았다

( Crispus, the synagogue ruler, and his entire household believed in the Lord; and many of the Corinthians who heard him believed and were baptized.)

 

18:9 그런데 어느 날 밤에, 환상 가운데 주님께서 바울에게 말씀하셨다 "무서워하지 말아라 잠자코 있지 말고, 끊임없이 말하여라

( One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: "Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent.)

 

18:10 내가 너와 함께 있으니, 아무도 너에게 손을 대어 해하지 못할 것이다 이 도시에는 나의 백성이 많다"

( For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.")

 

18:11 바울은 그들 가운데서 하나님의 말씀을 가르치면서, 일 년 육 개월 동안 머물렀다

( So Paul stayed for a year and a half, teaching them the word of God.)

 

18:12 그러나 갈리오가 아가야 주 총독으로 있을 때에, 유대 사람이 한패가 되어 바울에게 달려들어, 그를 재판정으로 끌고 가서,

( While Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a united attack on Paul and brought him into court.)

 

18:13 "이 사람은 법을 어기면서, 하나님을 공경하라고 사람들을 선동하고 있습니다" 하고 말하였다

( "This man," they charged, "is persuading the people to worship God in ways contrary to the law.")

 

18:14 바울이 막 입을 열려고 할 때에, 갈리오가 유대 사람에게 말하였다 "유대 사람 여러분, 사건이 무슨 범죄나 악행에 관련된 일이면, 내가 여러분의 송사를 들어주는 것이 마땅할 것이오

( Just as Paul was about to speak, Gallio said to the Jews, "If you Jews were making a complaint about some misdemeanor or serious crime, it would be reasonable for me to listen to you.)

 

18:15 그러나 문제가 언어와 명칭과 여러분의 율법에 관련된 것이면, 여러분이 스스로 알아서 처리하시오 나는 이런 일에 재판관이 되고 싶지 않소"

( But since it involves questions about words and names and your own law--settle the matter yourselves. I will not be a judge of such things.")

 

18:16 그래서 총독은 그들을 재판정에서 몰아냈다

( So he had them ejected from the court.)

 

18:17 그들은 회당장 소스데네를 붙들어다가 재판정 앞에서 때렸다 그러나 갈리오는 이 일에 조금도 참견하지 않았다

( Then they all turned on Sosthenes the synagogue ruler and beat him in front of the court. But Gallio showed no concern whatever.)

 

바울이 안디옥으로 돌아가다

 

18:18 바울은 여러 날을 더 머무른 뒤에, 신도들과 작별하고, 배를 타고 시리아로 떠났다 브리스길라와 아굴라가 그와 동행하였다 그런데 바울은 서원한 것이 있어서, 겐그레아에서 머리를 깎았다

( Paul stayed on in Corinth for some time. Then he left the brothers and sailed for Syria, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila. Before he sailed, he had his hair cut off at Cenchrea because of a vow he had taken.)

 

18:19 그 일행은 에베소에 이르렀다 바울은 그 두 사람을 떼어놓고, 자기 혼자 회당에 들어가서, 유대 사람과 토론하였다

( They arrived at Ephesus, where Paul left Priscilla and Aquila. He himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.)

 

18:20 그들은 바울에게 좀 더 오래 머물러 달라고 청하였으나, 바울은 거절하고,

( When they asked him to spend more time with them, he declined.)

 

18:21 "하나님의 뜻이면, 내가 다시 돌아오겠습니다" 하고 작별 인사를 한 뒤에, 배를 타고 에베소를 떠났다

( But as he left, he promised, "I will come back if it is God's will." Then he set sail from Ephesus.)

 

18:22 바울은 가이사랴에 내려서, 예루살렘으로 올라가 교회에 문안한 뒤에, 안디옥으로 내려갔다

( When he landed at Caesarea, he went up and greeted the church and then went down to Antioch.)

 

18:23 바울은 얼마동안 거기에 있다가, 그 곳을 떠나 갈라디아 지방과 부르기아 지방을 차례로 두루 다니면서, 모든 신도를 굳세게 하였다

( After spending some time in Antioch, Paul set out from there and traveled from place to place throughout the region of Galatia and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.)

 

아볼로의 전도 활동

 

18:24 그런데 알렉산드리아 태생으로 아볼로라는 유대 사람이 에베소에 왔다 그는 말을 잘하고, 성경에 능통한 사람이었다

( Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures.)

 

18:25 그는 이미 주님의 '도'를 배워서 알고 있었고, 예수에 관한 일을 열심히 말하고 정확하게 가르쳤다 그렇지만 그는 요한의 세례밖에 알지 못하였다

( He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John.)

 

18:26 그가 회당에서 담대하게 말하기 시작하니, 브리스길라와 아굴라가 그의 말을 듣고서, 따로 그를 데려다가, [하나님의]'도'를 더 자세하게 설명하여 주었다

( He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.)

 

18:27 아볼로는 아가야로 건너가고 싶어하였다 그래서 신도들이 그를 격려하고, 그 쪽 제자들에게 아볼로를 영접하라고 편지를 보냈다 그는 거기에 이르러서, 이미 하나님의 은혜로 신도가 된 사람들에게 큰 도움을 주었다

( When Apollos wanted to go to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. On arriving, he was a great help to those who by grace had believed.)

 

18:28 그가 성경을 가지고, 예수가 그리스도이심을 증명하면서, 공중 앞에서 유대 사람들을 힘있게 논박했기 때문이다

( For he vigorously refuted the Jews in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.)
