사도행전 19장

 

바울의 에베소 전도활동

 

19:1 아볼로가 고린도에 있는 동안에, 바울은 높은 지역들을 거쳐서, 에베소에 이르렀다 거기서 그는 몇몇 제자를 만나서,

( While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples)

 

19:2 "여러분은 믿을 때에, 성령을 받았습니까?" 하고 물었다 그들은 "우리는 성령이 있다는 말을 들어보지도 못하였습니다" 하고 대답하였다

( and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.")

 

19:3 바울이 다시 물었다 "그러면 여러분은 무슨 세례를 받았습니까?" 그들이 "요한의 세례를 받았습니다" 하고 대답하니

( So Paul asked, "Then what baptism did you receive?" "John's baptism," they replied.)

 

19:4 바울이 말하였다 "요한은 백성들에게 자기 뒤에 오시는 이 곧 예수를 믿으라고 말하면서, 회개의 세례를 주었습니다"

( Paul said, "John's baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.")

 

19:5 이 말을 듣고, 그들은 주 예수의 이름으로 세례를 받았다

( On hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.)

 

19:6 그리고 바울이 그들에게 손을 얹으니, 성령이 그들에게 내리셨다 그래서 그들은 방언으로 말하고 예언을 했는데,

( When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.)

 

19:7 모두 열두 사람쯤 되었다

( There were about twelve men in all.)

 

19:8 바울은 회당에 들어가서, 석 달 동안 하나님 나라의 일을 강론하고 권면하면서, 담대하게 말하였다

( Paul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months, arguing persuasively about the kingdom of God.)

 

19:9 그러나 몇몇 사람은, 마음이 완고하게 되어서 믿으려 하지 않고, 온 회중 앞에서 이 '도'를 비난하므로, 바울은 그들을 떠나, 제자들을 따로 데리고 나가서, 날마다 두란노 학당에서 강론하였다

( But some of them became obstinate; they refused to believe and publicly maligned the Way. So Paul left them. He took the disciples with him and had discussions daily in the lecture hall of Tyrannus.)

 

19:10 이런 일을 이태 동안 하였다 아시아에 사는 사람들은, 유대 사람이나 그리스 사람이나, 모두 주님의 말씀을 듣게 되었다

( This went on for two years, so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord.)

 

스게와의 아들들

 

19:11 하나님께서 바울의 손을 빌어서 비상한 기적들을 행하셨다

( God did extraordinary miracles through Paul,)

 

19:12 심지어 사람들이, 바울이 몸에 지니고 있는 손수건이나 두르고 있는 앞치마를 그에게서 가져다가, 앓는 사람 위에 얹기만 해도 병이 물러가고, 악한 귀신이 쫓겨 나갔다

( so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them.)

 

19:13 그런데 귀신 축출가로 행세하며 떠돌아다니는 몇몇 유대 사람조차도 "바울이 전파하는 예수를 힘입어서 내가 너희에게 명령한다" 하고 말하면서, 악귀 들린 사람들에게 주 예수의 이름을 이용하여 귀신을 내쫓으려고 시도하였다

( Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, "In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.")

 

19:14 스게와라는 유대인 제사장의 일곱 아들도 이런 일을 하였는데,

( Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this.)

 

19:15 귀신이 그들에게 "나는 예수도 알고, 바울도 알지만, 당신들은 도대체 누구요?" 하고 말하였다

( One day the evil spirit answered them, "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?")

 

19:16 그리고서 악귀 들린 사람이 그들에게 달려들어, 그들을 짓눌러 이기니, 그들은 몸에 상처를 입고서, 벗은 몸으로 그 집에서 도망하였다

( Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.)

 

19:17 이 일이 에베소에 사는 모든 유대 사람과 그리스 사람에게 알려지니, 그들은 모두 두려워하고, 주 예수의 이름을 찬양하였다

( When this became known to the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, they were all seized with fear, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor.)

 

19:18 그리고 신도가 된 많은 사람이 와서, 자기들이 한 일을 자백하고 공개하였다

( Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed their evil deeds.)

 

19:19 또 마술을 부리던 많은 사람이 그들의 책을 모아서, 모든 사람 앞에서 불살랐다 책값을 계산하여 보니, 은돈 오만 닢에 맞먹었다

( A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas.)

 

19:20 이렇게 하여 주님의 말씀이 능력 있게 퍼져 나가고, 점점 힘을 떨쳤다

( In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power.)

 

에베소에서 일어난 소동

 

19:21 이런 일이 있은 뒤에, 바울은 마케도니아와 아가야를 거쳐 예루살렘으로 가기로 마음에 작정하고 "나는 거기에 갔다가, 로마에도 꼭 가 보아야 하겠습니다" 하고 말하였다

( After all this had happened, Paul decided to go to Jerusalem, passing through Macedonia and Achaia. "After I have been there," he said, "I must visit Rome also.")

 

19:22 그래서 자기를 돕는 사람들 가운데서 디모데와 에라스도 두 사람을 마케도니아로 보내고, 자기는 얼마 동안 아시아에 더 머물러 있었다

( He sent two of his helpers, Timothy and Erastus, to Macedonia, while he stayed in the province of Asia a little longer.)

 

19:23 그 무렵에 주님의 '도' 때문에 적지 않은 소동이 일어났다

( About that time there arose a great disturbance about the Way.)

 

19:24 데메드리오라고 하는 은장이가 은으로 아데미 여신의 모형 신전들을 만들어서, 직공들에게 적지 않은 돈벌이를 시켜주었다

( A silversmith named Demetrius, who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought in no little business for the craftsmen.)

 

19:25 그가 직공들과 이런 일에 종사하는 사람들을 모아 놓고 말하였다 "여러분, 여러분이 아시는 바와 같이, 우리는 이 사업으로 잘 살고 있습니다

( He called them together, along with the workmen in related trades, and said: "Men, you know we receive a good income from this business.)

 

19:26 그런데 여러분이 보고 듣는 대로, 바울이라는 이 사람이 에베소에서뿐만 아니라, 거의 온 아시아에 걸쳐서, 사람의 손으로 만든 신은 신이 아니라고 말하면서, 많은 사람을 설득해서 마음을 돌려놓았습니다

( And you see and hear how this fellow Paul has convinced and led astray large numbers of people here in Ephesus and in practically the whole province of Asia. He says that man-made gods are no gods at all.)

 

19:27 그러니 우리의 이 사업이 명성을 잃을 위험이 있을 뿐만 아니라, 위대한 아데미 여신의 신전도 무시당하고, 또 나아가서는 온 아시아와 온 세계가 숭배하는 이 여신의 위신이 땅에 떨어지고 말 위험이 있습니다"

( There is danger not only that our trade will lose its good name, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be discredited, and the goddess herself, who is worshiped throughout the province of Asia and the world, will be robbed of her divine majesty.")

 

19:28 거기에 서 있는 사람들이 이 말을 듣고 격분해서 "에베소 사람의 아데미 여신은 위대하다!" 하고 소리를 질렀다

( When they heard this, they were furious and began shouting: "Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!")

 

19:29 그래서 온 도시는 큰 혼란에 빠졌고, 군중이 바울의 동행자들인 마케도니아 사람 가이오와 아리스다고를 붙잡아서 한꺼번에 극장으로 몰려 들어갔다

( Soon the whole city was in an uproar. The people seized Gaius and Aristarchus, Paul's traveling companions from Macedonia, and rushed as one man into the theater.)

 

19:30 바울이 군중 속에 들어가려고 하였으나, 제자들이 그것을 말렸다

( Paul wanted to appear before the crowd, but the disciples would not let him.)

 

19:31 바울에게 호감을 가진 아시아의 몇몇 고관들도 사람을 보내서, 바울에게 극장에 들어가지 말라고 권하였다

( Even some of the officials of the province, friends of Paul, sent him a message begging him not to venture into the theater.)

 

19:32 극장 안에서는, 더러는 이렇게 외치고, 더러는 저렇게 외치는 바람에, 모임은 혼란에 빠지고, 무엇 때문에 자기들이 모여들었는지조차 알지 못하는 사람이 많았다

( The assembly was in confusion: Some were shouting one thing, some another. Most of the people did not even know why they were there.)

 

19:33 유대 사람들이 알렉산더를 앞으로 밀어내니, 군중 가운데서 몇 사람이 그를 다그쳤다 알렉산더가 조용히 해 달라고 손짓을 하고서, 군중에게 변명하려고 하였다

( The Jews pushed Alexander to the front, and some of the crowd shouted instructions to him. He motioned for silence in order to make a defense before the people.)

 

19:34 그러나 군중은 알렉산더가 유대 사람인 것을 알고는, 모두 한 목소리로 거의 두 시간 동안이나 "에베소 사람의 아데미 여신은 위대하다!" 하고 외쳤다

( But when they realized he was a Jew, they all shouted in unison for about two hours: "Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!")

 

19:35 드디어 시청 서기관이 무리를 진정시키고 나서 말하였다 "에베소 시민 여러분, 우리의 도시 에베소가 위대한 아데미 여신과 하늘에서 내린 그 신상을 모신 신전 수호자임을 모르는 사람이 어디 있습니까?

( The city clerk quieted the crowd and said: "Men of Ephesus, doesn't all the world know that the city of Ephesus is the guardian of the temple of the great Artemis and of her image, which fell from heaven?)

 

19:36 이것은 부인할 수 없는 사실이니, 여러분은 마땅히 진정하고, 절대로 경솔한 행동을 해서는 안됩니다

( Therefore, since these facts are undeniable, you ought to be quiet and not do anything rash.)

 

19:37 신전 물건을 도둑질한 사람도 아니요 우리 여신을 모독한 사람도 아닌 이 사람들을, 여러분은 여기에 끌고 왔습니다

( You have brought these men here, though they have neither robbed temples nor blasphemed our goddess.)

 

19:38 그러므로 데메드리오와 그와 함께 있는 직공들이 누구를 걸어서 송사할 일이 있으면, 재판정도 열려 있고, 총독들도 있으니, 당사자들이 서로 고소도 하고, 맞고소도 해야 할 것입니다

( If, then, Demetrius and his fellow craftsmen have a grievance against anybody, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. They can press charges.)

 

19:39 여러분이 이 이상으로 해결하고자 하는 어떤 문제가 있으면, 그것은 정식 집회에서 처리되어야 할 것입니다

( If there is anything further you want to bring up, it must be settled in a legal assembly.)

 

19:40 우리는 오늘 일어난 이 일 때문에, 소요죄로 문책을 받을 위험이 있습니다 우리는 이 소요를 정당화할 수 있는 아무런 명분이 없습니다"

( As it is, we are in danger of being charged with rioting because of today's events. In that case we would not be able to account for this commotion, since there is no reason for it.")

 

19:41 이렇게 말하고서, 그는 모임을 해산시켰다

( After he had said this, he dismissed the assembly.)

사도행전 20장

 

바울의 마게도나와 그리스 여행

 

20:1 소동이 그친 뒤에, 바울은 제자들을 불러오게 해서, 그들을 격려한 뒤에, 작별 인사를 하고, 마케도니아로 떠나갔다

( When the uproar had ended, Paul sent for the disciples and, after encouraging them, said good-by and set out for Macedonia.)

 

20:2 바울은 그 곳의 여러 지방을 거쳐가면서, 여러 가지 말로 제자들을 격려하고, 그리스에 이르렀다

( He traveled through that area, speaking many words of encouragement to the people, and finally arrived in Greece,)

 

20:3 거기서 그는 석 달을 지냈다 바울은 배로 시리아로 가려고 하는데, 유대 사람들이 그를 해치려는 음모를 꾸몄으므로, 그는 마케도니아를 거쳐서 돌아가기로 작정하였다

( where he stayed three months. Because the Jews made a plot against him just as he was about to sail for Syria, he decided to go back through Macedonia.)

 

20:4 그 때에 그와 동행한 사람은 부로의 아들로서, 베뢰아 사람 소바더와 데살로니가 사람 가운데서 아리스다고와 세군도와 더베 사람 가이오와 디모데, 그리고 아시아 사람 두기고와 드로비모였다

( He was accompanied by Sopater son of Pyrrhus from Berea, Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica, Gaius from Derbe, Timothy also, and Tychicus and Trophimus from the province of Asia.)

 

20:5 이들이 먼저 가서, 드로아에서 우리를 기다리고 있었다

( These men went on ahead and waited for us at Troas.)

 

20:6 우리는 무교절 뒤에 배를 타고 빌립보를 떠나, 닷새만에 드로아에 이르러, 그들에게로 가서, 거기서 이레 동안을 지냈다

( But we sailed from Philippi after the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and five days later joined the others at Troas, where we stayed seven days.)

 

유두고를 살리다

 

20:7 주간의 첫 날에, 우리는 빵을 떼려고 모였다 바울은 그 다음 날 떠나기로 되어 있어서 신도들에게 강론을 하는데, 강론이 밤이 깊도록 계속되었다

( On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight.)

 

20:8 우리가 모인 위층 방에는, 등불이 많이 켜져 있었다

( There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were meeting.)

 

20:9 유두고라는 청년이 창문에 걸터앉아 있다가, 바울의 말이 오랫동안 계속되므로, 졸음을 이기지 못하고 몹시 졸다가 삼 층에서 떨어졌다 사람들이 일으켜 보니, 죽어 있었다

( Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead.)

 

20:10 바울이 내려가서, 그에게 엎드려, 끌어안고 말하기를 "소란을 피우지 마십시오 아직 목숨이 붙어 있습니다" 하였다

( Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. "Don't be alarmed," he said. "He's alive!")

 

20:11 바울은 위층으로 올라가서, 빵을 떼어서 먹고 나서, 날이 새도록 오래 이야기하고 떠나갔다

( Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left.)

 

20:12 사람들은 그 살아난 청년을 집으로 데리고 갔다 그래서 그들은 적지 않게 위로를 받았다

( The people took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted.)

 

드로아에서 밀레도까지의 항해

 

20:13 우리는 배에 먼저 가서, 배를 타고 앗소를 향하여 떠났다 우리는 거기에서부터 바울을 배에 태울 작정이었다 바울이 앗소까지 걸어가고자 했기 때문에 그렇게 정한 것이었다

( We went on ahead to the ship and sailed for Assos, where we were going to take Paul aboard. He had made this arrangement because he was going there on foot.)

 

20:14 우리는 앗소에서 바울을 만나서 그를 배에 태우고 미둘레네로 갔다

( When he met us at Assos, we took him aboard and went on to Mitylene.)

 

20:15 그리고 우리는 거기에서 떠나서, 이튿날 기오 맞은편에 이르고, 다음날 사모에 들렀다가, 그 다음 날 밀레도에 이르렀다

( The next day we set sail from there and arrived off Kios. The day after that we crossed over to Samos, and on the following day arrived at Miletus.)

 

20:16 이런 행로를 취한 것은, 바울이 아시아에서 시간을 허비하지 않으려고, 에베소에 들르지 않기로 작정하였기 때문이다 그는 할 수 있는 대로, 오순절까지는 예루살렘에 도착하려고 서둘렀던 것이다

( Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus to avoid spending time in the province of Asia, for he was in a hurry to reach Jerusalem, if possible, by the day of Pentecost.)

 

바울이 에베소에서 고별 설교를 하다

 

20:17 바울이 밀레도에서 에베소로 사람을 보내어, 교회 장로들을 불렀다

( From Miletus, Paul sent to Ephesus for the elders of the church.)

 

20:18 장로들이 오니, 바울이 그들에게 말하였다 "여러분은, 내가 아시아에 발을 들여놓은 첫날부터, 여러분과 함께 그 모든 시간을 어떻게 지내왔는지를 잘 아십니다

( When they arrived, he said to them: "You know how I lived the whole time I was with you, from the first day I came into the province of Asia.)

 

20:19 나는 겸손과 많은 눈물로, 주님을 섬겼습니다 그러는 가운데 나는 또, 유대 사람들의 음모로 내게 덮친 온갖 시련을 겪었습니다

( I served the Lord with great humility and with tears, although I was severely tested by the plots of the Jews.)

 

20:20 나는 또한 유익한 것이면 빼놓지 않고 여러분에게 전하고, 공중 앞에서나 각 집에서 여러분을 가르쳤습니다

( You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house.)

 

20:21 나는 유대 사람에게나 그리스 사람에게나 똑같이, 회개하고 하나님께로 돌아올 것과 우리 주 예수를 믿을 것을, 엄숙히 증언하였습니다

( I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.)

 

20:22 보십시오 이제 나는 성령에 매여서, 예루살렘으로 가는 길입니다 거기서 무슨 일이 내게 닥칠지, 나는 모릅니다

( "And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there.)

 

20:23 다만 내가 아는 것은, 성령이 내게 일러주시는 것뿐인데, 어느 도시에서든지, 투옥과 환난이 나를 기다리고 있다는 것입니다

( I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me.)

 

20:24 그러나 내가 나의 달려갈 길을 다 달리고, 주 예수께 받은 사명, 곧 하나님의 은혜의 복음을 증언하는 일을 다하기만 하면, 나는 내 목숨이 조금도 아깝지 않습니다

( However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me--the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace.)

 

20:25 나는 여러분 가운데로 들어가서, 그 나라를 선포하였습니다 그런데 이제 나는 여러분 모두가 내 얼굴을 다시는 보지 못하리라는 것을 알고 있습니다

( "Now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again.)

 

20:26 그러므로 나는 오늘 여러분에게 엄숙하게 증언합니다 여러분 가운데서 누가 구원을 받지 못하는 일이 있더라도, 내게는 아무런 책임이 없습니다

( Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of all men.)

 

20:27 그것은, 내가 주저하지 않고 여러분들에게 하나님의 모든 경륜을 전해 주었기 때문입니다

( For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God.)

 

20:28 여러분은 자기 자신을 잘 살피고 양 떼를 잘 보살피십시오 성령이 여러분을 양 떼 가운데에 감독으로 세우셔서, 하나님께서 자기 아들의 피로 사신 교회를 돌보게 하셨습니다

( Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.)

 

20:29 내가 떠난 뒤에, 사나운 이리들이 여러분 가운데로 들어와서, 양 떼를 마구 해하리라는 것을 나는 압니다

( I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock.)

 

20:30 바로 여러분 가운데서도, 제자들을 이탈시켜서 자기를 따르게 하려고, 어그러진 것을 말하는 사람들이 나타날 것입니다

( Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.)

 

20:31 그러므로 여러분은 깨어 있어서, 내가 삼 년 동안 밤낮 쉬지 않고 각 사람을 눈물로 훈계하던 것을 기억하십시오

( So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.)

 

20:32 나는 이제 하나님과 그의 은혜로운 말씀에 여러분을 맡깁니다 하나님의 말씀은 여러분을 튼튼히 세울 수 있고, 거룩하게 된 모든 사람들 가운데서 여러분으로 하여금 유업을 차지하게 할 수 있습니다

( "Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.)

 

20:33 나는 누구의 은이나 금이나 옷을 탐낸 일이 없습니다

( I have not coveted anyone's silver or gold or clothing.)

 

20:34 여러분이 아는 대로, 나는 나와 내 일행에게 필요한 것을 내 손으로 일해서 마련하였습니다

( You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions.)

 

20:35 나는 모든 일에서 여러분에게 본을 보였습니다 이렇게 힘써 일해서 약한 사람을 도와주는 것이 마땅합니다 그리고 주 예수께서 친히 '주는 것이 받는 것보다 더 복이 있다' 하신 말씀을 반드시 명심해야 합니다"

( In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'")

 

20:36 바울은 말을 마치고 나서, 무릎을 꿇고 그들과 함께 기도하였다

( When he had said this, he knelt down with all of them and prayed.)

 

20:37 그리고 모두 실컷 울고서, 바울의 목을 끌어안고, 입을 맞추었다

( They all wept as they embraced him and kissed him.)

 

20:38 그들을 가장 마음 아프게 한 것은, 다시는 자기의 얼굴을 볼 수 없으리라고 한 바울의 말이었다 그들은 배타는 곳까지 바울을 배웅하였다

( What grieved them most was his statement that they would never see his face again. Then they accompanied him to the ship.)
