에스겔 16장

 

음녀와 같은 예루살렘

 

16:1 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다

( The word of the LORD came to me:)

 

16:2 "사람아, 너는 예루살렘 사람들에게, 그들이 얼마나 역겨운 일을 저질렀는지를 알려 주어라

( "Son of man, confront Jerusalem with her detestable practices)

 

16:3 이렇게 말하여 주어라 '나 주 하나님이 예루살렘을 두고 말한다 너의 고향, 네가 태어난 땅은 가나안이고, 네 아버지는 아모리 사람이고, 네 어머니는 헷 사람이다

( and say, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says to Jerusalem: Your ancestry and birth were in the land of the Canaanites; your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite.)

 

16:4 네가 태어난 것을 말하자면, 네가 태어나던 날, 아무도 네 탯줄을 잘라 주지 않았고, 네 몸을 물로 깨끗하게 씻어 주지 않았고, 네 몸을 소금으로 문질러 주지 않았고, 네 몸을 포대기로 감싸 주지도 않았다

( On the day you were born your cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water to make you clean, nor were you rubbed with salt or wrapped in cloths.)

 

16:5 이 모든 것 가운데서 한 가지만이라도 너에게 해줄 만큼 너를 불쌍하게 여기고 돌보아 준 사람이 없다 오히려 네가 태어나던 바로 그 날에, 사람들이 네 목숨을 천하게 여기고, 너를 내다가 들판에 버렸다

( No one looked on you with pity or had compassion enough to do any of these things for you. Rather, you were thrown out into the open field, for on the day you were born you were despised.)

 

16:6 그 때에 내가 네 곁으로 지나가다가, 핏덩이로 버둥거리는 너를 보고, 핏덩이로 누워 있는 너에게, 제발 살아만 달라고 했다 （핏덩이로 누워 있는 너에게, 제발 살아만 달라고 했다）

( "'Then I passed by and saw you kicking about in your blood, and as you lay there in your blood I said to you, "Live!")

 

16:7 그리고서 내가 너를 키워 들의 풀처럼 무성하게 하였더니, 네가 크게 자라 보석 가운데서도 가장 아름다운 보석처럼 되었고, 네 가슴이 뚜렷하고, 머리카락도 길게 자랐는데, 너는 아직 벌거벗고 있었다

( I made you grow like a plant of the field. You grew up and developed and became the most beautiful of jewels. Your breasts were formed and your hair grew, you who were naked and bare.)

 

16:8 그 때에 내가 네 곁으로 지나가다가 너를 보니, 너는 한창 사랑스러운 때였다 그래서 내가 네 몸 위에 나의 겉옷 자락을 펴서 네 벗은 몸을 가리고, 너에게 맹세하고, 너와 언약을 맺어서, 너는 나의 사람이 되었다 나 주 하나님의 말이다

( "'Later I passed by, and when I looked at you and saw that you were old enough for love, I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your nakedness. I gave you my solemn oath and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Sovereign LORD, and you became mine.)

 

16:9 내가 너를 목욕을 시켜서 네 몸에 묻은 피를 씻어 내고, 기름을 발라 주었다

( "'I bathed you with water and washed the blood from you and put ointments on you.)

 

16:10 수 놓은 옷을 네게 입혀 주었고, 물개 가죽신을 네게 신겨 주고, 모시로 네 몸을 감싸 주고, 비단으로 겉옷을 만들어 주었다

( I clothed you with an embroidered dress and put leather sandals on you. I dressed you in fine linen and covered you with costly garments.)

 

16:11 내가 온갖 보물로 너를 장식하여, 두 팔에는 팔찌를 끼워 주고, 목에는 목걸이를 걸어 주고,

( I adorned you with jewelry: I put bracelets on your arms and a necklace around your neck,)

 

16:12 코에는 코걸이를 걸어 주고, 두 귀에는 귀고리를 달아 주고, 머리에는 화려한 면류관을 씌워 주었다

( and I put a ring on your nose, earrings on your ears and a beautiful crown on your head.)

 

16:13 이렇게 너는 금과 은으로 장식하고, 모시 옷과 비단 옷과 수 놓은 옷을 입었다 또 너는, 고운 밀가루와 꿀과 기름으로 만든 음식을 먹어서, 아주 아름답게 되고, 마침내 왕비처럼 되었다

( So you were adorned with gold and silver; your clothes were of fine linen and costly fabric and embroidered cloth. Your food was fine flour, honey and olive oil. You became very beautiful and rose to be a queen.)

 

16:14 네 아름다움 때문에 네 명성이 여러 이방 나라에 퍼져 나갔다 내가 네게 베푼 화려함으로 네 아름다움이 완전하게 된 것이다 나 주 하나님의 말이다

( And your fame spread among the nations on account of your beauty, because the splendor I had given you made your beauty perfect, declares the Sovereign LORD.)

 

16:15 그런데 너는 네 아름다움을 믿고, 네 명성을 의지하여, 음행을 하였다 지나가는 남자가 원하기만 하면, 누구하고나 음행을 하여, 네 이름을 그의 것이 되게 하였다

( "'But you trusted in your beauty and used your fame to become a prostitute. You lavished your favors on anyone who passed by and your beauty became his.)

 

16:16 너는 네 옷을 가져다가, 가지각색의 산당들을 꾸미고, 그 위에서 음행을 하였다 이런 일은 전에도 없었고, 앞으로도 없을 것이다

( You took some of your garments to make gaudy high places, where you carried on your prostitution. Such things should not happen, nor should they ever occur.)

 

16:17 너는, 내가 네게 준 나의 금과 은으로 만든 장식품들을 가져다가 남자의 형상들을 만들어 놓고, 그것들과 음행을 하였다

( You also took the fine jewelry I gave you, the jewelry made of my gold and silver, and you made for yourself male idols and engaged in prostitution with them.)

 

16:18 너는, 수 놓은 옷을 가져다가 그 형상들에게 입혀 주고, 내가 준 기름과 향을 그것들 앞에 가져다 놓았다

( And you took your embroidered clothes to put on them, and you offered my oil and incense before them.)

 

16:19 또 너는, 내가 너에게 준 음식 곧 내가 너를 먹여 살린 고운 밀가루와 기름과 꿀을 그것들 앞에 가져다 놓고, 향기 나는 제물로 삼았다 네가 정말로 그렇게 하였다 나 주 하나님의 말이다

( Also the food I provided for you--the fine flour, olive oil and honey I gave you to eat--you offered as fragrant incense before them. That is what happened, declares the Sovereign LORD.)

 

16:20 또 너는, 우리 사이에서 태어난 아들들과 네 딸들을 데려다가, 우상들에게 제물로 바쳐 불사르게 하였다 너의 음욕이 덜 찼느냐?

( "'And you took your sons and daughters whom you bore to me and sacrificed them as food to the idols. Was your prostitution not enough?)

 

16:21 네가 내 아들딸마저 제물로 바쳤다 또 네가 그들을 불 속으로 지나가게 하였다

( You slaughtered my children and sacrificed them to the idols.)

 

16:22 너는, 핏덩이로 버둥거리던 때와 벌거벗은 몸으로 지내던 네 어린 시절을 기억하지 않고, 온갖 역겨운 일과 음행을 저질렀다'"

( In all your detestable practices and your prostitution you did not remember the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, kicking about in your blood.)

 

창녀 예루살렘

 

16:23 "나 주 하나님의 말이다 네게 재앙이 닥친다 재앙이 닥친다 네가 그 모든 악행을 저지른 다음에도

( "'Woe! Woe to you, declares the Sovereign LORD. In addition to all your other wickedness,)

 

16:24 너는, 길거리마다 네가 올라갈 누각을 짓고, 네가 누울 높은 단을 만들었다

( you built a mound for yourself and made a lofty shrine in every public square.)

 

16:25 너는, 길 머리마다 높은 단을 만들어 놓고, 네 아름다움을 흉측하게 더럽히고, 지나가는 모든 남자에게 네 두 다리를 벌려, 음행을 많이 하였다

( At the head of every street you built your lofty shrines and degraded your beauty, offering your body with increasing promiscuity to anyone who passed by.)

 

16:26 너는, 이집트 남자들 곧 하체가 큰 이웃 나라 남자들과 음행을 하였다 너는, 수도 없이 아주 음란하게 음행을 하여, 내 분노를 터뜨렸다

( You engaged in prostitution with the Egyptians, your lustful neighbors, and provoked me to anger with your increasing promiscuity.)

 

16:27 그러므로 내가 내 손을 펴서 너를 치고, 네가 날마다 먹을 양식을 줄이고, 또 너를 미워하는 블레셋 여자들 곧 네 추잡한 행실을 보고 역겨워하는 여자들에게 너를 넘겨 주어서, 마음대로 하게 하였다

( So I stretched out my hand against you and reduced your territory; I gave you over to the greed of your enemies, the daughters of the Philistines, who were shocked by your lewd conduct.)

 

16:28 그런데도 너는 음욕이 차지 않아서, 앗시리아 남자들과 음행을 하였다 그들과 음행을 한 다음에도 네 음욕이 차지 않아서,

( You engaged in prostitution with the Assyrians too, because you were insatiable; and even after that, you still were not satisfied.)

 

16:29 너는 저 장사하는 나라 바빌로니아 남자들과 더 많이 음행을 하였다 그래도 너의 음욕은 차지 않았다

( Then you increased your promiscuity to include Babylonia, a land of merchants, but even with this you were not satisfied.)

 

16:30 나 주 하나님의 말이다 네가 방자한 창녀와 똑같이 이 모든 일을 했으면서도, 너는 마음이 왜 그렇게 약하냐!

( "'How weak-willed you are, declares the Sovereign LORD, when you do all these things, acting like a brazen prostitute!)

 

16:31 네가 길 머리마다 높은 단을 만들어 놓고, 길거리마다 누각을 세워 놓고, 몸을 팔면서도, 네가 화대를 받지 않으니, 너는 창녀와 같지도 않구나!

( When you built your mounds at the head of every street and made your lofty shrines in every public square, you were unlike a prostitute, because you scorned payment.)

 

16:32 너는 제 남편이 아닌 다른 남자들과 간통하는 음란한 유부녀로구나

( "'You adulterous wife! You prefer strangers to your own husband!)

 

16:33 창녀들은 화대를 받는 법이다 그러나 너는 네 모든 정부에게 선물을 주어 가며 사방에서 불러다가, 너와 음행을 하자고, 남자들에게 돈까지 주었다

( Every prostitute receives a fee, but you give gifts to all your lovers, bribing them to come to you from everywhere for your illicit favors.)

 

16:34 이렇게 너는 다른 여자들과는 정반대로 음행을 하였다 정부들이 너를 따라다니는 것도 아니고, 네가 몸값을 받는 것도 아니고, 오히려 네가 몸값을 주어 가면서 음행을 하니, 너는 다른 여자들과는 정반대다"

( So in your prostitution you are the opposite of others; no one runs after you for your favors. You are the very opposite, for you give payment and none is given to you.)

 

주께서 예루살렘을 심판하시다

 

16:35 "그러므로 창녀야, 너는 나 주의 말을 들어라

( "'Therefore, you prostitute, hear the word of the LORD!)

 

16:36 나 주 하나님이 말한다 네가 정부들과 음행을 하고, 네 모든 역겨운 우상과 음행을 할 때에, 너는 재산을 쏟아 붓고, 네 벗은 몸을 드러내었다 너는 온갖 가증한 우상들에게 네 자식들의 피를 바쳤다

( This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because you poured out your wealth and exposed your nakedness in your promiscuity with your lovers, and because of all your detestable idols, and because you gave them your children's blood,)

 

16:37 그러므로 네가 함께 즐기던 네 정부들과 네가 좋아하던 모든 남자뿐 아니라, 네가 미워하던 남자도, 내가 모두 모아서 너를 치게 하겠다 내가 그들을 사방에서 모아 너를 치게 하고, 네 벌거벗은 몸을 드러내 놓아, 그들이 모두 네 벌거벗은 몸을 보게 하겠다

( therefore I am going to gather all your lovers, with whom you found pleasure, those you loved as well as those you hated. I will gather them against you from all around and will strip you in front of them, and they will see all your nakedness.)

 

16:38 그리고 나는 너를, 간음을 하고 살인을 한 여인을 재판하듯이 재판하며, 내 분노와 질투로 네게 살인죄의 벌을 내리겠다

( I will sentence you to the punishment of women who commit adultery and who shed blood; I will bring upon you the blood vengeance of my wrath and jealous anger.)

 

16:39 내가 너를 그들의 손에 넘겨 주면, 그들이 네 누각을 헐고, 네 높은 단을 무너뜨릴 것이며, 네 옷을 벗겨 버리고, 네 모든 장식품을 빼앗은 다음에, 너를 벌거벗겨 알몸으로 버려 둘 것이다

( Then I will hand you over to your lovers, and they will tear down your mounds and destroy your lofty shrines. They will strip you of your clothes and take your fine jewelry and leave you naked and bare.)

 

16:40 그들은 너를 대항하여 한 무리를 끌고 와서 너를 돌로 치고, 칼로 찔러 죽일 것이다

( They will bring a mob against you, who will stone you and hack you to pieces with their swords.)

 

16:41 그들은 네 집을 불사르고, 많은 여인이 보는 앞에서 너에게 벌을 내릴 것이다 내가 이렇게 네 음행을 끝장 내서, 네가 다시는 그들에게 선물을 줄 수 없게 하겠다

( They will burn down your houses and inflict punishment on you in the sight of many women. I will put a stop to your prostitution, and you will no longer pay your lovers.)

 

16:42 그제야 너에 대한 내 분이 풀리고, 내 질투가 사그라지고, 마음이 평온해져서, 다시는 화를 내지 않게 될 것이다

( Then my wrath against you will subside and my jealous anger will turn away from you; I will be calm and no longer angry.)

 

16:43 네가 어린 시절을 기억하지 않고, 이 모든 일로 내 분노를 터뜨려 놓았으니, 나도 네 행실대로 네게 그대로 갚을 것이니, 네가 다시는 역겨운 우상을 섬기는 일에다가 음행까지 더하는 일을 하지 못할 것이다 나 주 하나님의 말이다"

( "'Because you did not remember the days of your youth but enraged me with all these things, I will surely bring down on your head what you have done, declares the Sovereign LORD. Did you not add lewdness to all your other detestable practices?)

 

그 어머니에 그 딸

 

16:44 "사람들마다 너를 비꼬아서 '그 어머니에 그 딸'이라는 속담을 말할 것이다

( "'Everyone who quotes proverbs will quote this proverb about you: "Like mother, like daughter.")

 

16:45 네가 바로 남편과 자식들을 미워하던 네 어머니의 딸이며, 네가 바로 남편과 자녀들을 미워하던 네 언니들의 동생이다 너희의 어머니는 헷 사람이며, 아버지는 아모리 사람이다

( You are a true daughter of your mother, who despised her husband and her children; and you are a true sister of your sisters, who despised their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite.)

 

16:46 그리고 네 언니는 그 딸들을 데리고 북쪽에 사는 사마리아이고, 네 동생은 딸들을 데리고 남쪽에 사는 소돔이다

( Your older sister was Samaria, who lived to the north of you with her daughters; and your younger sister, who lived to the south of you with her daughters, was Sodom.)

 

16:47 너는, 그들의 행실만을 따라 가거나 그들의 역겨운 일들만을 따라 하는 것만이 아니라, 그것도 오히려 부족한 듯이, 네 모든 행실이 그들보다 더 타락하였다

( You not only walked in their ways and copied their detestable practices, but in all your ways you soon became more depraved than they.)

 

16:48 나 주 하나님의 말이다 내가 나의 삶을 두고 맹세한다 네 동생 소돔 곧 그와 그 딸들은 너와 네 딸들처럼 행동하지는 않았다

( As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, your sister Sodom and her daughters never did what you and your daughters have done.)

 

16:49 네 동생 소돔의 죄악은 이러하다 소돔과 그의 딸들은 교만하였다 또 양식이 많아서 배부르고 한가하여 평안하게 살면서도, 가난하고 못 사는 사람들의 손을 붙잡아 주지 않았다

( "'Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.)

 

16:50 오히려 그들은 교만하였으며, 내 눈 앞에서 역겨운 일을 하였다 그러므로 내가 그것을 보고는, 그들을 없애 버렸다

( They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.)

 

16:51 사마리아는 네가 저지른 모든 죄의 반 만큼도 죄를 짓지 않았다 네가 그들보다 역겨운 일들을 더 많이 하였기 때문에, 네가 저지른 그 온갖 역겨운 일들로, 너는 네 언니와 아우의 죄가 없는 것처럼 보이게 하였다

( Samaria did not commit half the sins you did. You have done more detestable things than they, and have made your sisters seem righteous by all these things you have done.)

 

16:52 네가 네 언니와 아우보다 더 역겨운 죄를 지으므로, 네 언니와 아우가 유리한 판단을 받았으니, 너는 마땅한 수치를 당해야 할 것이다 너 때문에 그들이 의로운 것처럼 보이게 되었다 네가 이렇게 네 언니와 아우를 의롭게 보이게 하였으니, 너도 부끄러운 줄 알아라 네가 마땅한 수치를 당할 것이다"

( Bear your disgrace, for you have furnished some justification for your sisters. Because your sins were more vile than theirs, they appear more righteous than you. So then, be ashamed and bear your disgrace, for you have made your sisters appear righteous.)

 

소돔과 사마리아도 회복될 것이다

 

16:53 "내가 그들을 다시 잘 살게 해주겠다 소돔과 그 딸들을 다시 잘 살게 해주고, 사마리아와 그 딸들을 다시 잘 살게 해주겠다 또 내가 그들과 함께 너도 다시 잘 살게 해주겠다

( "'However, I will restore the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters and of Samaria and her daughters, and your fortunes along with them,)

 

16:54 그제야 너는 네 치욕을 감당하고, 네가 저지른 모든 죄를 부끄러운 줄 알게 될 것이다 네 언니와 아우는 네가 당하는 수치를 보고, 자신들이 얼마나 유복한지를 알게 될 것이다

( so that you may bear your disgrace and be ashamed of all you have done in giving them comfort.)

 

16:55 네 아우 소돔과 그 딸들이 예전 상태로 회복되고, 네 언니 사마리아와 그 딸들이 예전 상태로 회복될 때에, 너와 네 딸들도 예전 상태로 회복될 것이다

( And your sisters, Sodom with her daughters and Samaria with her daughters, will return to what they were before; and you and your daughters will return to what you were before.)

 

16:56 네가 교만하던 시절에는, 네가 네 아우 소돔의 추문을 들을 때에 그를 비웃었다

( You would not even mention your sister Sodom in the day of your pride,)

 

16:57 그러나 그것은 네 죄악이 드러나기 전에 있었던 일이다 오히려 이제는 네가 그들의 놀림감이 되었다 사방에서 너를 멸시하는 사람들 곧 에돔의 딸들과 그 모든 이웃이 너를 비웃고, 블레셋 딸들이 너를 조롱한다

( before your wickedness was uncovered. Even so, you are now scorned by the daughters of Edom and all her neighbors and the daughters of the Philistines--all those around you who despise you.)

 

16:58 네가 음행을 저지르고, 또 그처럼 역겨운 일들을 저질렀으니, 그 벌을 면할 것이라고는 생각하지 말아라 나 주의 말이다"

( You will bear the consequences of your lewdness and your detestable practices, declares the LORD.)

 

영원한 언약

 

16:59 "나 주 하나님이 말한다 너는, 네가 한 맹세를 하찮게 여겨, 그 언약을 깼으니, 나도 네가 한 것과 똑같이 너에게 하겠다

( "'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will deal with you as you deserve, because you have despised my oath by breaking the covenant.)

 

16:60 그러나 나는 네 젊은 시절에 내가 너와 맺은 언약을 기억해서, 너와 영원한 언약을 세우겠다

( Yet I will remember the covenant I made with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you.)

 

16:61 비록 이것은 너와 나 사이에 세운 언약 속에 들어 있는 것은 아니라 하더라도, 내가 너보다 더 큰 네 언니와 너보다 작은 네 아우를 모두 네 딸로 삼아 주면, 너는 네가 저지른 악한 행실을 기억하고, 부끄러워할 것이다

( Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed when you receive your sisters, both those who are older than you and those who are younger. I will give them to you as daughters, but not on the basis of my covenant with you.)

 

16:62 이렇게 내가 직접 너와 언약을 세우면, 그 때에야 비로소 너는, 내가 주인 줄 알 것이다

( So I will establish my covenant with you, and you will know that I am the LORD.)

 

16:63 내가 이렇게 하는 까닭은, 네가 저지른 모든 악한 일을 용서받은 다음에, 네가 지난 일들을 기억하고, 놀라고, 그리고 부끄러워서 다시는 입도 열지 못하게 하려는 데 있는 것이다 나 주 하나님의 말이다"

( Then, when I make atonement for you for all you have done, you will remember and be ashamed and never again open your mouth because of your humiliation, declares the Sovereign LORD.'")

독수리와 포도나무의 비유

 

17:1 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다

( The word of the LORD came to me:)

 

17:2 "사람아, 너는 이스라엘 족속에게 수수께끼를 내고, 비유를 들어 말하여라

( "Son of man, set forth an allegory and tell the house of Israel a parable.)

 

17:3 너는 그들에게 말하여라 '나 주 하나님이 말한다 큰 독수리 한 마리가 레바논으로 갔다 큰 날개, 긴 깃, 알록달록한 깃털을 가진 그 독수리는 백향목 끝에 돋은 순을 땄다

( Say to them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: A great eagle with powerful wings, long feathers and full plumage of varied colors came to Lebanon. Taking hold of the top of a cedar,)

 

17:4 독수리는 그 연한 햇순을 잘라서, 상인들의 땅으로 물고 가서, 상인들의 성읍에 놓아 두었다

( he broke off its topmost shoot and carried it away to a land of merchants, where he planted it in a city of traders.)

 

17:5 그리고 그 땅에서 난 씨앗을 가져다가 옥토에 심었다 시냇가에다가 버드나무를 심듯, 물이 많은 시냇가에 그 씨앗을 심었다

( "'He took some of the seed of your land and put it in fertile soil. He planted it like a willow by abundant water,)

 

17:6 그 씨앗은 싹이 나고, 낮게 퍼지며 자라서, 무성한 포도나무가 되었다 그 가지들은 독수리에게로 뻗어 올라갔고, 그 뿌리는 땅에 박고 있었다 그 씨가 포도나무가 되어, 가지를 내뻗고, 덩굴손을 뻗쳤다

( and it sprouted and became a low, spreading vine. Its branches turned toward him, but its roots remained under it. So it became a vine and produced branches and put out leafy boughs.)

 

17:7 다른 큰 독수리 한 마리가 나타났다 날개가 크고 깃이 많은 독수리다 그런데 보아라, 이 포도나무가 뿌리를 그 독수리에게로 뻗고, 가지도 그 독수리에게로 뻗는 것이 아닌가! 이 포도나무는 새로 나타난 그 독수리를 보고 옥토에서 멀리 떨어진 곳에 물을 대달라고 하였다

( "'But there was another great eagle with powerful wings and full plumage. The vine now sent out its roots toward him from the plot where it was planted and stretched out its branches to him for water.)

 

17:8 그 포도나무를 옥토 곧 물이 많은 곳에 심은 것은, 가지를 뻗고 열매를 맺어서 아름다운 포도나무가 되도록 한 것인데, 이 모양이 되고 말았다'

( It had been planted in good soil by abundant water so that it would produce branches, bear fruit and become a splendid vine.')

 

17:9 그러므로 너는 그들에게 전하여라 '나 주 하나님이 말한다 그 포도나무가 무성해질 수 있겠느냐? 그 뿌리가 뽑히지 않겠느냐? 그 열매가 떨어지거나, 그 새싹이 말라 죽지 않겠느냐? 그 뿌리를 뽑아 버리는 데는, 큰 힘이나 많은 군대를 동원하지 않아도 될 것이다

( "Say to them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Will it thrive? Will it not be uprooted and stripped of its fruit so that it withers? All its new growth will wither. It will not take a strong arm or many people to pull it up by the roots.)

 

17:10 그러므로 그것을 심어 놓았지만 무성해질 수가 있겠느냐? 동쪽 열풍이 불어 오면 곧 마르지 않겠느냐? 자라던 그 밭에서 말라 버리지 않겠느냐?'"

( Even if it is transplanted, will it thrive? Will it not wither completely when the east wind strikes it--wither away in the plot where it grew?'")

 

비유의 해석

 

17:11 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다

( Then the word of the LORD came to me:)

 

17:12 "너는 저 반역하는 족속에게, 이 비유가 무엇을 뜻하는지 알지 못하겠느냐고 물어 보고, 그들에게 일러주어라 바빌로니아 왕이 예루살렘으로 와서, 왕과 지도자들을 붙잡아 바빌로니아로 끌어 갔고,

( "Say to this rebellious house, 'Do you not know what these things mean?' Say to them: 'The king of Babylon went to Jerusalem and carried off her king and her nobles, bringing them back with him to Babylon.)

 

17:13 이 나라의 왕족 가운데서 한 사람을 선택하여, 그와 언약을 맺고, 그에게 맹세를 시킨 다음에, 이 나라의 유능한 사람들을 붙잡아 갔다

( Then he took a member of the royal family and made a treaty with him, putting him under oath. He also carried away the leading men of the land,)

 

17:14 이것은 바빌로니아가 이 나라를 굴복시켜 독립하지 못하게 하고, 그 언약을 지켜야만 명맥을 유지해 나가도록 하려 한 것이다

( so that the kingdom would be brought low, unable to rise again, surviving only by keeping his treaty.)

 

17:15 그런데도 그는 바빌로니아 왕에게 반역하여, 이집트로 사람을 보내서, 자기에게 많은 군마와 군인을 파견해 달라고 요청하였다 그가 성공할 수 있겠느냐? 그런 일을 한 사람이 죽음을 피할 수 있겠느냐? 언약을 어긴 사람이 죽음을 피할 수 있겠느냐?

( But the king rebelled against him by sending his envoys to Egypt to get horses and a large army. Will he succeed? Will he who does such things escape? Will he break the treaty and yet escape?)

 

17:16 나 주 하나님의 말이다 내가 나의 삶을 두고 맹세한다 그는 분명히 죽을 것이다 바빌로니아 왕이 그를 왕으로 세워 주었는데, 그 왕에게 한 맹세를 무시하고, 그와 맺은 언약을 깨뜨렸으니, 왕의 땅인 바빌로니아에서 그와 함께 있다가 죽을 것이다

( "'As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, he shall die in Babylon, in the land of the king who put him on the throne, whose oath he despised and whose treaty he broke.)

 

17:17 바빌로니아 군대가 많은 사람을 죽이려고, 그의 성읍 옆에 흙 언덕을 쌓고 높은 사다리를 세울 때에는, 이집트의 바로가 강력한 군사력과 많은 군사로도 전쟁에서 그를 도울 수가 없을 것이다

( Pharaoh with his mighty army and great horde will be of no help to him in war, when ramps are built and siege works erected to destroy many lives.)

 

17:18 그가 맹세를 무시하고 언약을 깨뜨렸다 그가 언약을 어기고 이런 모든 일을 하였기 때문에, 죽음을 피할 수 없을 것이다

( He despised the oath by breaking the covenant. Because he had given his hand in pledge and yet did all these things, he shall not escape.)

 

17:19 그러므로 나 주 하나님이 말한다 내가 나의 삶을 두고 맹세한다 그는 나의 이름을 두고 한 맹세를 업신여겼으며, 나의 이름을 걸고 맺은 언약을 깨뜨렸으므로, 내가 벌을 주어서, 그 죄를 그의 머리로 돌리겠다

( "'Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: As surely as I live, I will bring down on his head my oath that he despised and my covenant that he broke.)

 

17:20 내가 그물을 쳐서 그를 망으로 옭아 바빌로니아로 끌고 가서, 거기에서 내가 나를 반역한 그의 반역을 심판하겠다

( I will spread my net for him, and he will be caught in my snare. I will bring him to Babylon and execute judgment upon him there because he was unfaithful to me.)

 

17:21 그의 모든 군대 가운데서 도망한 사람들은 모두 칼에 쓰러질 것이며, 살아 남은 사람들은 모두 사방으로 흩어질 것이다 그 때에야 비로소 너희는, 이렇게 말한 것이 나 주인 줄 알게 될 것이다"

( All his fleeing troops will fall by the sword, and the survivors will be scattered to the winds. Then you will know that I the LORD have spoken.)

 

희망의 약속

 

17:22 "주 하나님이 말한다 내가 백향목 끝에 돋은 가지를 꺾어다가 심겠다 내가 그 나무의 맨 꼭대기에 돋은 어린 가지들 가운데서 연한 가지를 하나 꺾어다가, 내가 직접 높이 우뚝 솟은 산 위에 심겠다

( "'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will take a shoot from the very top of a cedar and plant it; I will break off a tender sprig from its topmost shoots and plant it on a high and lofty mountain.)

 

17:23 이스라엘의 높은 산 위에 내가 그 가지를 심어 놓으면, 거기에서 가지가 뻗어 나오고, 열매를 맺으며, 아름다운 백향목이 될 것이다 그 때에는 온갖 새들이 그 나무에 깃들이고, 온갖 날짐승들이 그 가지 끝에서 보금자리를 만들 것이다

( On the mountain heights of Israel I will plant it; it will produce branches and bear fruit and become a splendid cedar. Birds of every kind will nest in it; they will find shelter in the shade of its branches.)

 

17:24 그 때에야 들의 모든 나무가, 나 주가, 높은 나무는 낮추고 낮은 나무는 높이고 푸른 나무는 시들게 하고 마른 나무는 무성하게 하는 줄을, 알게 될 것이다 나 주가 말하였으니, 내가 그대로 이루겠다"

( All the trees of the field will know that I the LORD bring down the tall tree and make the low tree grow tall. I dry up the green tree and make the dry tree flourish. "'I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it.'")

18:1 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다

( The word of the LORD came to me:)

 

18:2 "너희가 어찌하여 이스라엘 땅에서 아직도 '아버지가 신 포도를 먹으면, 아들의 이가 시다' 하는 속담을 입에 담고 있느냐?

( "What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel: "'The fathers eat sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge'?)

 

18:3 나 주 하나님의 말이다 내가 나의 삶을 두고 맹세한다 너희 가운데서 어느 누구도 다시는 이스라엘에서 이런 속담을 입에 담지 못할 것이다

( "As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel.)

 

18:4 모든 영혼은 나의 것이다 아버지의 영혼이나 아들의 영혼이 똑같이 나의 것이니, 범죄하는 그 영혼이 죽을 것이다

( For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as the son--both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die.)

 

18:5 어떤 사람이 의로워서 법과 의를 실천한다고 하자

( "Suppose there is a righteous man who does what is just and right.)

 

18:6 그가 산 위에서 우상에게 바친 제물을 먹지 않으며, 이스라엘 족속의 우상들에게 눈을 팔지 않으며, 이웃의 아내를 범하지 않으며, 월경을 하고 있는 아내를 가까이 하지 않으며,

( He does not eat at the mountain shrines or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor's wife or lie with a woman during her period.)

 

18:7 사람을 학대하지 않으며, 빚진 사람의 전당물을 돌려 주며, 아무것도 강제로 빼앗지 않으며, 굶주린 사람에게 먹을 것을 주며, 헐벗은 사람에게 옷을 입혀 주며,

( He does not oppress anyone, but returns what he took in pledge for a loan. He does not commit robbery but gives his food to the hungry and provides clothing for the naked.)

 

18:8 돈놀이를 하지 않으며, 이자를 받지 않으며, 흉악한 일에서 손을 떼며, 사람과 사람 사이에서 공정한 판결을 내리며,

( He does not lend at usury or take excessive interest. He withholds his hand from doing wrong and judges fairly between man and man.)

 

18:9 나의 모든 율례대로 살아 가며, 나의 모든 규례를 지켜서 진실하게 행동하면, 그는 의로운 사람이니, 반드시 살 것이다 나 주 하나님의 말이다

( He follows my decrees and faithfully keeps my laws. That man is righteous; he will surely live, declares the Sovereign LORD.)

 

18:10 그런데 그가 아들을 하나 낳았다고 하자 그 아들이 이 모든 선은 하나도 행하지 않고, 이들 악 가운데서 하나를 범하여 폭력을 휘두르거나, 사람을 죽여 피를 흘리게 하거나,

( "Suppose he has a violent son, who sheds blood or does any of these other things)

 

18:11 아버지와는 반대로 산 위에서 우상에게 바친 제물을 먹거나, 이웃의 아내를 범하거나,

( (though the father has done none of them): "He eats at the mountain shrines. He defiles his neighbor's wife.)

 

18:12 가난하고 어려운 사람을 학대하거나, 강제로 빼앗거나, 전당물을 돌려 주지 않거나, 온갖 우상들에게 눈을 팔거나, 역겨운 일을 하거나,

( He oppresses the poor and needy. He commits robbery. He does not return what he took in pledge. He looks to the idols. He does detestable things.)

 

18:13 돈놀이를 하거나, 이자를 받거나 하면, 그가 살 수 있겠느냐? 그는 절대로 살지 못할 것이니, 이 모든 역겨운 일을 하였으므로, 죽을 수밖에 없다 자기의 피가 자기에게로 돌아갈 것이다

( He lends at usury and takes excessive interest. Will such a man live? He will not! Because he has done all these detestable things, he will surely be put to death and his blood will be on his own head.)

 

18:14 그런데 이 의롭지 못한 그가 아들을 하나 낳았다고 하자 그 아들이 자기 아버지가 지은 모든 죄를 보고 두려워하여서, 그대로 따라 하지 않고,

( "But suppose this son has a son who sees all the sins his father commits, and though he sees them, he does not do such things:)

 

18:15 산 위에서 우상에게 바친 제물을 먹지도 않으며, 이스라엘 족속의 우상들에게 눈을 팔지도 않으며, 이웃의 아내를 범하지도 않으며,

( "He does not eat at the mountain shrines or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor's wife.)

 

18:16 아무도 학대하지 않으며, 전당물을 잡아 두지도 않으며, 강제로 빼앗지도 않고, 굶주린 사람에게 먹을 것을 주며, 벗은 사람에게 옷을 입혀 주며,

( He does not oppress anyone or require a pledge for a loan. He does not commit robbery but gives his food to the hungry and provides clothing for the naked.)

 

18:17 흉악한 일에서 손을 떼고, 가난한 자를 압제하지 않으며, 돈놀이를 하지 않으며, 이자를 받지 않으며, 나의 규례를 실천하고, 나의 율례대로 살아가면, 이 사람은 자기 아버지의 죄악 때문에 죽지 않고, 반드시 살 것이다

( He withholds his hand from sin and takes no usury or excessive interest. He keeps my laws and follows my decrees. He will not die for his father's sin; he will surely live.)

 

18:18 그렇지만 그의 아버지는 심히 난폭하여 동족을 학대하고, 친척의 것을 강제로 빼앗고, 자기 민족 가운데서 좋지 않은 일을 하였으므로, 그는 자신의 죄악 때문에 죽을 것이다

( But his father will die for his own sin, because he practiced extortion, robbed his brother and did what was wrong among his people.)

 

18:19 그런데 너희는, 왜 그 아들이 아버지의 죄에 대한 벌을 받지 않느냐고 묻는다 그러나 그 아들은 법과 의를 실천하며, 나의 율례를 다 지키고 그것들을 실천하였으므로, 그는 반드시 살 것이다

( "Yet you ask, 'Why does the son not share the guilt of his father?' Since the son has done what is just and right and has been careful to keep all my decrees, he will surely live.)

 

18:20 죄를 지은 영혼 바로 그 사람이 죽을 것이며, 아들은 아버지의 죄에 대한 벌을 받지 않을 것이며, 아버지가 아들의 죄에 대한 벌도 받지 않을 것이다 의인의 의도 자신에게로 돌아가고, 악인의 악도 자신에게로 돌아갈 것이다

( The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the guilt of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous man will be credited to him, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against him.)

 

18:21 그러나 악인이라도 자기가 저지른 모든 죄악에서 떠나 돌이켜서, 나의 율례를 다 지키고 법과 의를 실천하면, 그는 반드시 살고, 죽지 않을 것이다

( "But if a wicked man turns away from all the sins he has committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die.)

 

18:22 그가 지은 모든 죄악을, 내가 다시는 더 기억하지 않을 것이다 그는 자신이 지킨 의 때문에 살 것이다

( None of the offenses he has committed will be remembered against him. Because of the righteous things he has done, he will live.)

 

18:23 나 주 하나님의 말이다 악인이 죽는 것을, 내가 조금이라도 기뻐하겠느냐? 오히려 악인이 자신의 모든 길에서 돌이켜서 사는 것을, 내가 참으로 기뻐하지 않겠느냐?

( Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?)

 

18:24 그러나 의인이 자신의 의를 버리고 돌아서서 죄를 범하고, 악인이 저지르는 모든 역겨운 일을 똑같이 하면, 그가 살 수가 있겠느냐? 그가 지킨 모든 의는 전혀 기억되지 않을 것이다 그는 자신의 불성실과 자신이 지은 죄 때문에 죽을 것이다

( "But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked man does, will he live? None of the righteous things he has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness he is guilty of and because of the sins he has committed, he will die.)

 

18:25 그런데 너희는, 내가 일을 처리하는 방법이 공평하지 못하다는 말을 하는구나 이스라엘 족속아, 너희는 잘 들어라 내가 일하는 방법이 어찌 공평하지 않으냐? 너희가 하는 행실이 오히려 공평하지 않은 것이 아니냐?

( "Yet you say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' Hear, O house of Israel: Is my way unjust? Is it not your ways that are unjust?)

 

18:26 의인이 자신의 의를 버리고 돌아서서, 죄를 짓다가, 그것 때문에 죽는다면, 그는 자신이 지은 죄 때문에 죽는 것이다

( If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin, he will die for it; because of the sin he has committed he will die.)

 

18:27 그러나 악인이라도, 자신이 저지른 죄에서 떠나 돌이켜서, 법대로 살며, 의를 행하면, 자기의 목숨을 보전할 것이다

( But if a wicked man turns away from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will save his life.)

 

18:28 그가 스스로 깨닫고, 자신이 지은 모든 죄에서 떠나 돌이켰으니, 그는 반드시 살 것이요, 죽지 않을 것이다

( Because he considers all the offenses he has committed and turns away from them, he will surely live; he will not die.)

 

18:29 그런데도 이스라엘 족속은, 내가 일하는 방법이 공평하지 않다는 말을 하는구나 이스라엘 족속아, 내가 일하는 방법이 어찌 공평하지 않으냐? 너희가 하는 행실이 오히려 공평하지 않은 것이 아니냐?

( Yet the house of Israel says, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' Are my ways unjust, O house of Israel? Is it not your ways that are unjust?)

 

18:30 나 주 하나님의 말이다 그러므로 이스라엘 족속아, 나는 너희 각 사람이 한 일에 따라서 너희를 심판하겠다 너희는 회개하고, 너희의 모든 범죄에서 떠나 돌이켜라 그렇게 하면, 죄가 장애물이 되어 너희를 넘어뜨리는 일이 없을 것이다

( "Therefore, O house of Israel, I will judge you, each one according to his ways, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall.)

 

18:31 너희는, 너희가 지은 죄를 모두 너희 자신에게서 떨쳐내 버리고, 마음과 영을 새롭게 하여라 이스라엘 족속아, 너희가 왜 죽고자 하느냐?

( Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, O house of Israel?)

 

18:32 죽을 죄를 지은 사람이라도, 그가 죽는 것을 나는 절대로 기뻐하지 않는다 그러므로 너희는 회개하고 살아라 나 주 하나님의 말이다"

( For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent and live!)

애가

 

19:1 "너는 이스라엘의 지도자들에게 불러 줄 애가를 지어라

( "Take up a lament concerning the princes of Israel)

 

19:2 너는 이렇게 불러라 '너의 어머니는 누구였느냐? 사자들 가운데 엎드려 있으면서, 젊은 사자들 틈에서 제 새끼들을 기르던 암사자였다

( and say: "'What a lioness was your mother among the lions! She lay down among the young lions and reared her cubs.)

 

19:3 그 새끼들 가운데서 하나를 키웠더니, 젊은 사자가 되었다 그가 사냥하는 것을 배워, 사람을 잡아 먹으니,

( She brought up one of her cubs, and he became a strong lion. He learned to tear the prey and he devoured men.)

 

19:4 이방 민족들이 이 소식을 듣고, 함정을 파서 그를 잡아 갈고리로 꿰서, 이집트 땅으로 끌어 갔다

( The nations heard about him, and he was trapped in their pit. They led him with hooks to the land of Egypt.)

 

19:5 암사자는 새끼를 기다리다가 희망이 끊어진 것을 깨닫고, 제 새끼들 가운데서 다른 것을 하나 골라, 젊은 사자로 키웠더니,

( "'When she saw her hope unfulfilled, her expectation gone, she took another of her cubs and made him a strong lion.)

 

19:6 그가 사자들 가운데서 어울리며, 젊은 사자가 되었다 그가 사냥하는 것을 배워, 사람을 잡아 먹으며

( He prowled among the lions, for he was now a strong lion. He learned to tear the prey and he devoured men.)

 

19:7 그들의 거처를 모두 파괴하니, 성읍들이 황량해지고 그의 으르렁대는 소리에 땅과 그 안에 가득 찬 것이 황폐해졌다

( He broke down their strongholds and devastated their towns. The land and all who were in it were terrified by his roaring.)

 

19:8 그러자 이방 민족들이 그를 치려고 사방 여러 지역에서 와서, 그의 위에 그물을 치고 함정을 파서 잡아

( Then the nations came against him, those from regions round about. They spread their net for him, and he was trapped in their pit.)

 

19:9 갈고리로 그의 코를 꿰어 철창에 넣어서, 바빌로니아 왕에게로 데리고 갔다 그들은 그의 으르렁대는 소리가 다시는 이스라엘의 모든 산에 들리지 않게, 그를 감옥에 가두었다

( With hooks they pulled him into a cage and brought him to the king of Babylon. They put him in prison, so his roar was heard no longer on the mountains of Israel.)

 

19:10 네 어머니는 네 포도원 안에 있는 물가에 심은 포도나무 같아서, 물이 많으므로 열매가 많고 가지가 무성하며,

( "'Your mother was like a vine in your vineyard planted by the water; it was fruitful and full of branches because of abundant water.)

 

19:11 그 가지 가운데 가장 센 가지가 통치자의 통치 지팡이가 되었다 그 하나가 굵고 큰 가지들보다 더 높이 솟았고 많은 가지 가운데서 우뚝 솟았으나

( Its branches were strong, fit for a ruler's scepter. It towered high above the thick foliage, conspicuous for its height and for its many branches.)

 

19:12 그 포도나무가 분노 가운데 뽑혀서 땅바닥에 던져지니, 그 열매가 동풍에 마르고, 그 튼튼한 가지들은 꺾이고 말라서, 불에 타 버렸다

( But it was uprooted in fury and thrown to the ground. The east wind made it shrivel, it was stripped of its fruit; its strong branches withered and fire consumed them.)

 

19:13 이제는 그 나무가 광야에, 가물고 메마른 땅에 심겨 있다

( Now it is planted in the desert, in a dry and thirsty land.)

 

19:14 그 가운데 큰 가지에서 불이 솟아 나와 그 가지와 열매를 태워 버리니, 통치자들의 통치 지팡이가 될 만한 튼튼한 가지가 하나도 남지 않았다'"이것은 애가인데, 사람들이 부르고 또 불렀다

( Fire spread from one of its main branches and consumed its fruit. No strong branch is left on it fit for a ruler's scepter.' This is a lament and is to be used as a lament.")
